Green Room Review Challenge
Summary:
Write the best review you can write! Many times, reviewers get wrapped up in writing lots and lots of reviews, and sometimes they forget what's most important: helping the author. And the most important thing to focus on when writing a review is the quality, not the quantity.
This event is all about writing quality reviews!
Description:
The goal of this event is to write quality reviews, not necessarily long reviews. Unless it's way too short, length will not be considered when judging. Grammar and spelling will also not be considered.
Some things to help you on your way:
Spoiler
Try to hit on some of these points when reviewing! Also, even if you don't know how to fix something, it's still helpful to point out things to the writer!
Novel/short story:
~ Characters - are they believable? Boring? How do they fit the story?
~ Plot - Does it make sense? Do the characters fit with it?
~ Pacing - Does it feel too fast? Too slow?
~ Setting - Do you know where it's taking place? Does it make sense compared to the rest of the story?
~ Dialogue - Does it fit the characters? Is it clear? Is it dull and seems to drag on forever?
Poetry/lyrics:
~ Flow - How does everything come together? Did you get stuck anywhere?
~ Imagery and figurative language - Can you picture what's being described? Does it fit the theme of the work?
~ Clarity - Does everything make sense? Did something seem off?
~ Emotion - What did you feel when reading this? Was it the emotion you expected to feel? Does it fit?
These are a few of the things that can help a review be helpful to the author, but there is much more! Also, you don't have to and shouldn't hit all of these points! 2 or 3 is helpful, and more than that can be too much to focus on.
