Anyone here into linguistics?

Well, for a while, I've wanted to make a language. A REAL language. I've made ciphers and things all my life, but recently I've had a little obsession with (okay huge) making a language. And, consequently, I'm just curious if anyone else here is interested in this kind of stuff?

I am currently analyzing some sentences in English from a book, and breaking them down so that I can understand English grammar better (in order to make my own unique grammar). This stuff is really quite interesting, looking at conjunctions, adjuncts, and all the like... it's very amazing the way we can process it all so fast, along with how it effects our perceptions on reality(a very controversial and interesting study).

So, just wondering if anyone here shares these obsessions/passions/fascinations?

I'm not that into trying to make a language myself, but I do love English grammar. Especially cleft sentences.

I'm currently toying with the idea of making a language... because I'm the kind of kid who gets bogged down in the crafting of a world and never writes a story set there. I know...next to nothing about linguistics, but I found a book about invented languages (this one) at Christmas and devoured it. I'm also thinking of taking a Computational Linguistics module in the fourth year of my degree. This stuff is shiny :3

If you're looking for resources on making a language, try googling 'Zompist' or 'The Language Construction Kit' - or even just 'conlang' will get you a fair few useful hits. ^^

I love the Language Construction Kit by Zompist. It helped me transform my conlangs from simple ciphers and a basic rewrite of English words, into a well developed language with its own conjugation grammar rules, and all the likes. This, especially the readers and syntax tests linked there, is very good for looking into more developed conlangs and pulling them apart to help with your language.

A few example sentences from my best conlang:

Sherik gin rinaca, rinanda handre pirimos. (The man can see the boy run.)
Sherik xia rinanda. (I see a boy.)
Go'unagu rinanda yilai si? (Has the boy a hat?)
