There's a lot of fantasy RP that goes on in the RP Geeks, so I thought I'd come in and shamelessly advertise a bit:

A callout to role-players of all genres and styles! The Role-play Geeks has a shiny new Discord, for all YWSers that want a piece of it! With more than a dozen RP rooms and an accessible backlog, you can do it in a real-time chat and be able to return to your role-plays later on - not to mention the dice-rolling which is made possible by Discord's RPBot.

Hope to see you around

Hi! I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I write pretty much exclusively fantasy (I should probably branch out, but meh), so I thought this would be a good place to go. Hope you had a happy review day, and good luck writing!

As you can see, the post before yours was in 2014. I don't think it's the most active group out there.

Odd, I'm sure there were more post. I posted like a few months ago. Either way, welcome to the group.

I guess this club looks a bit dead... but I thought I'd join anyway, I do love me some fantasy and I'm trying to write a fantasy story at the moment. I kind of spend a huge amount of time questioning whether fantasy is just a completely ridiculous genre and whether I should find something more normal. I don't even know why I think this, I just sometimes get really hung up about writing about magic and stuff because I think it sounds really childish... does any one else feel like that sometimes?

    Dreamy replied · May 26, 2014

Adding a tiny bit of seriousness to the childishness is fantasy, at least to me it is. And don't lose interest/hope in what yo do. It all seems tough and senseless at times, we all have been there. But, it's a long way to go so brace yourself! ;)

    Holysocks replied · May 26, 2014

I don't find fantasy childish! But maybe that's because I love it so much. Also, fantasy isn't limited to magic wands and damsels in distress. Fantasy is any thing you can think up, fantastical things, which bloom from your imagination.

I guess that's why I love fantasy. I have no bounds. XP

    Rubric replied · May 27, 2014

In its own way, most fantasy carries a fairly strong homage to the giants of the genre, in whose shadows we mere mortals treat. On the other hand the ideas it tangles with and the people and relationships it depicts are thoroughly real and meaningful.

I find fantasy enjoyable to write and it comes more naturally to me than any other genre because it's what I grew up reading. I'm familiar with its tropes, and competent in their use.

I enjoy the kinds of stories magic, monsters, and myth help us tell, and the way it lets us sidle up on things which are a little closer to home.

I'm also more comfortable writing in fantasy than any other genre, even if I do still sometimes feel like a bit of a child when writing, maybe that is just because my worlds and characters don't have a huge amount of depth yet. What I love about it is that you are so much freer in fantasy than any other genre because you can really create your world from scratch. I always try and use as much "real" mythology as I can though in the creation of my creatures and places, it really helps me feel like the world I make has more meaning rather than just being a collection of made up words.
Anyway... This is a super long comment to my own post... I guess I'm working through something's at the moment...thanks for your encouragement :)
