Book Name: ain't burned all the bright
Author: Jason Reynolds

Comments: This was a beautiful book of freestyle poetry. It was wonderfully illustrated by Jason Griffin. It was a quick read. Focuses on the Covid-19 Pandemic and how the writer found joy with small things with his family despite the pain they endured. So well done!

Book Name: The Diary Of A Young Girl: Anne Frank
Author: Edited by Otto H. Frank and Mirjam Pressler. This is the Diary of Anne Frank.

Ranking Score: 9.5/10
Comments: This book broke me. I had previously heard of the story of Anne Frank and read a graphic novel version when I was younger, but this was my first full exposure to her words. And hold cow, I dont think I will ever be the same again. This book hurt my heart so deeply. I felt so connected to Anne throughout the book. Her words made me feel heard. She felt like a friend. And for everything to end, suddenly. Knowing that this was her being take to her eventual death, well, I don't even know what to say. This was a beyond beautiful read. I would definetely say it is a must read book for every person.

Book Name: Thirteen Reasons Why
Author: Jay Asher
Page Count: 288
Ranking Score: 8.5/10
Comments: This was such an interesting story! I was engaged the whole way through and never got bored. The storyline was heartbreaking and extremely engaging. I love Clay as the main character and I love hearing Hannah narrate this story throughout. Overall, this is a quick read that taught me a very good lesson. I think it taught me to make sure that I notice people who may go unnoticed.
I'm gonna spoil the next part for a TW of suicide to share some of my negative thoughts on the book:Spoiler
Statistically, I have heard that when this book/tv series came out, suicide rates increased. My only negative comment is that I agree with those statistics, I feel that in a way, this story almost romantisizes suicide. It paints it as this almost play that Hannah Baker puts on and I can easily see how this inspired suicides in the real world. But, I think that this is a story that needs to be shared and heard, therefor I am still giving it a high ranking of 8.5/10

I remember reading Thirteen Reasons Why when it came out and feeling compelled by the book as well!
I *don't* recommend the show as it is DARK.

the concern when the show came out was that Hannah's suicide is shown on screen. season 1 is pretty similar to the book and also shows on screen sexual assault.
I stopped after season 2 because it got even darker and too dark for me. Like the episode I stopped on (might have been the season 2 finale) literally had me shaking and stuck with me for days.

@Carlito I have been curious in the show as well! I think I have seen a couple of clips from it, one of which being Hannah's death, which I remember shocked me a lot! The book definitely has a lot of heavy content so I was curious how they would incorporate it into a show.

Book Name: The Screwtape Letters
Author: C.S Lewis

Comments: Okay... I know what you are thinking. ELLIE how can you give C.S Lewis, an incredible author, a rating of 4/10? Honestly, this book was extremely boring to me. Of course, it was good enough that I read the entire thing. There were some parts that were interesting and made me think about good and bad, and heaven and hell, and God and demons and everything in between... but, it just didnt intrigue me that much. It was a very quick read, but because of boredom it still took me two days to finish. Don't misunderstand, I adore C.S Lewis and his writing. I just heard so much hype about this book and was expecting it to be.. more, I guess. I was reccommend to read it multiple times and went into it thinking it would be life-changing haha. If you are looking for a very casual book about a demon in training and his uncle giving him advice through letters, this is the book for you!
Although, there was one part of this book that really stood out to me. On page 61, there is a part in Uncle Screwtapes letter that reads, "Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to Hell is a gradual one- the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden things, without milestones, without signposts."
Honestly, I think if i read this book a lot slower and analyzed it closer, it is an absolute gem filled with lovely christian teachings.

Book Name: The Little Prince
Author: Antoine De Saint-Exupéry

Comments: I have read this book probably three times throughout my life and it touches my heart every single time. I feel like this is a book I should read at least once a year. It always reminds me to slow down and not become an adult, haha. This book always brings tears to my eyes.
There is a quote that always makes me cry (and want to sob) for some reason. When the little prince explains he once watched the sun set 44 times in one day, these words follow,"On the day of the fourty-four times, were you feeling very sad?"
But the little prince didn't answer.
and also:"The stars are beautiful because of a flower you don't see..."

Wow, this book was incredible. I feel like this is one of those books that I would pay money to be able to read for the 'first time' again. This book was over 500 pages, hence the reason it took me a couple days to finish. Anyway, I am going to spoiler the next part because I don't want to spoil this amazing novel for anyone.
I will say, some parts of this book are quite intense. I would rate it more of a 16-18+ type of book for those reasons. So also adding a spoiler for those reasons.Spoiler
I love Anthony Doerr's writing. I hope I can write that well someday. This really was a masterpiece of a novel. I love all of the characters so much. Werners story shows us so much cruelty and brutality behind power and priviledge. The layout of the chapters in this book was AWESOME. I love how short and descriptive they are. I dont think I have ever read such a descriptive book. Werner's death caught me totally off guard. I love Marie-Laure's story as well. I think that the two stories meeting up at the end was incredibly well done. The story of following the stone, which was most likely washed up in the sea, was also intrigueing.

OMG!! I watched the series!! I wanted to read the book, but I've avoided it 'cause I heard that Werner died at the end :'( (Did he die?? I'm scared to find out) But the series is just beautiful and awesome <33

His death was so sudden and quick and sad. From my understanding of the novel, he ends up getting sort of sick and while he is not fully aware of things, he steps on a landmine and *poofs* near the end of the novel.
does this mean he doesn't die in the series??
I also really wanna watch the series! My mum was telling me about it since she watched it and enjoyed it! The book is an incredible read @Rose -
