    Poem A Week Club Update · May 1, 2022
    Just as you're getting ready to rest your poetry muscles for another year - let me share with you a low-key fun season to keep the poetry joy going this month ... It's May Haiku! (#MayHaiku or #MayHaikuMonth ) Every year on YWS and in other places on the internet, May is celebrated as the month for Haiku (because it's the 5th month, and there are 5 syllables in the first line of a haiku). So watch out for the Haiku Activities around the site all month and maybe even some fun Haiku Challenges? And back by popular demand, last year @Liminality hosted a beautiful challenge / collection to gather up the haikus of many YWS writers into the May Haiku Collection. This year we'll have another collection so watch for that thread to come around. To participate in May Haiku you don't need to hit a certain quota, just post some haiku around the site ~ you could try one a day or one a week if you really want to but it's fairly chill!

    In the meantime here's some of my favorite YWS Haiku Activities:
    * Haiku Battle
    * Haiku Train
    * Haiku Battle!
    * Life by Haiku
    * #ShareAHaiku (use this hashtag to share a haiku to your friends or enemies?)

    Spoiler

    Not sure how to write a haiku?
    Typically a common type of haiku found on YWS is written with 3 lines, the first having 5 syllables, the second having 7 syllables, and the third having 5 syllables again. It is traditional for a haiku to be about nature, but it doesn't have to be, and it often has a "turn" or twist or surprise in the final line.

My life's goal is to end up between YWS quotes on bottom of the page, so some part of me will be able to live forever here.
