    So, apparently, on a recent Reddit AMA, Miles Luna (voice of Jaune and co-writer for the show) confirmed that Qrow and Ruby's relationship is merely uncle and niece, putting to rest the compelling but sadly untrue theory that Qrow and Summer are Ruby's biological parents.

    Spoiler
    I'm a bit disappointed about that, personally. In my mind, having Qrow and Summer as Ruby's parents / Tai and Raven as Yang's parents seems a bit less messy and a more positive reflection on Taiyang's character.

    A Lien for your thoughts?

    I'm not sure how the situation would reflect badly on Taiyang's character. He didn't really do anything wrong. His first wife left him, and with the ties of that relationship completely broken off, Taiyang was completely free and justified in choosing another woman.

    hum.....

    @Europa - Oh, absolutely.

    Spoiler
    But it seemed to me like he got over his wife's loss very quickly for Ruby to have been born when she was. It just seems a little ... unfeeling to me, but I suppose grief can make people do a variety of things.

    I saw more appeal in the idea that Summer and Tai were both abandoned at some point by their Branwen partners and did a Brady Bunch to raise their kids together in a blended family unit. But that's just my headcanon.

    @AllisontheWriter Another idea to consider might be that Taiyang wasn't intending to have another child at first.

    Spoiler
    Taiyang seems to me to be a very sensitive man who forms attachments quickly. After Raven left, he was probably suffering a lot of grief and maybe a hint of betrayal, but he did have a daughter to raise. Maybe he decided to get together with Summer because he felt like Yang needed a mother figure in her life. It makes a fair amount of sense to me because until Summer died, Yang never knew that she had a different mother than Ruby. Tai may have not wanted her feel like her family was different or broken, and so he hid the fact that he'd been with any other woman. However, its clear that after a while, Taiyang and Summer did develop feelings for each other because Ruby was born, even if Tai wasn't planning on having another child. Plus, according to Yang, when Summer died, Taiyang "shut down", and throughout the series, even though we've heard him talk about Raven, he hasn't said a word about Summer yet, maybe because it's still too painful for him to remember her.

    Oooh, that does make a lot of sense!
