Hey guys! I just joined the Young Writers Society, and I came across this group, which is perfect since I love reading. Any recommendations?

Welcome! I would be more than happy to discuss book recs, but it depends on what you like, of course :) I just started Yesteryear yesterday, and so far it's pretty good!

I’m rereading the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series currently! I just found the fifth book (that I didn’t know existed) recently and read it, so now I’m backtracking and am currently on the second one. I like the books because of all the amazing characters and the theme of unconditional love in them :)

Wow, what a blast from the past! I loved those books when I was in my pre-teen years. You're inspiring me to look back on some of my childhood favourites... might be interesting to read them from a different perspective.

I don't really have time to read books so I have Microsoft Edge's horrible computer voice read out surprisingly violent StarFox fanfics to me while I carry the baby around ^^°

Hi everyone! We need to have a discussion about manga and how members of the club can record these books in our monthly read logs!

    Here’s a few options:
    1) Members can only make one club topic post per manga title, regardless of how many volumes they actually read. For example, if I read the entirety of Fullmetal Alchemist, I would only post it once, despite the manga being split into 27 volumes.
    2) Members can only post the volumes in groups of 3. (I assume 3 volumes is equivalent to a standard novel?)
    3) Members continue to list each volume individually.
    4) Another option (please weigh in)

Please let me know what you think!

Ooooh I think 2 would be fair!

    deleted48 replied · Jul 3

    I'd say 2 is fair!

    Iggy replied · Jul 8

    2 it is, then!

  • Iggy replied · Jul 2

This is a discussion I had earlier with @Tikaya and we never came up with a solution HAHA lemme post a club post and have people weigh in.

    thank you pawprints

So sad that I likely won’t have finished a single whole book this month!! I’ve been working on several but haven’t gotten through any.

    Iggy replied · Jun 1

That just means you’ll be ahead in June! Hehe

Don’t forget that audiobooks also count as reading! so if you decide to use audiobooks to help you get through a book, that’s a-okay :)

We aren’t very strict around here! The goal is for everyone to read :) we allow manga, fanfics, proof-reading your friend’s novel draft, etc.

With manga, you post the title and the volume of the tankōbon book you read. However, if you’re reading manga online… you’ll have to google the volumes and just post them individually until you get to the amount of chapters you’ve read LOL

For example, Fullmetal Alchemist has 27 volumes, and so if I binged the entire series this month, I could list them all individually in 27 separate messages.

    Does that make sense?

Though, as a footnote and not necessarily an accusation or anything, but I do want to note here that if people in general use that to abuse the count and win the all-star award each month, then I would have to change the policy. But I don’t think that’ll happen! Just gonna note it here for posterity. :)

    Tikaya replied · May 19

    Thank you for the explanation!

I just read the entirety of Reborn while I was ill which would be 42 volumes this month... I am hesistant to call this 42 books....

    Iggy replied · May 19

I can ask the entire club for their opinions on how we should record manga, if you’d like! On one hand, I do think that making 42 separate listings would be overkill. On the other hand, I don’t think that reading an entire manga series is equal to one post, because that’s a lot of reading! And what about mangas like One Piece, that are incomplete and insanely long? And I also don’t want to exclude manga entirely, because it’s still reading.

I suppose you could make one post per manga that you have read or are actively reading, like those people who read One Piece weekly…

    What do YOU think? :-)
