The expansionist and ruthless Arm’kican Imperium is defeated over their homeworld of Arm’kican Prime by the Coalition of Free Planets led by Earth after a bloody battle. The Arm’kican Imperium surrenders unconditionally to Earth and its allies in orbit over their homeworld, ending two years of bloody fighting. High ranking Arm’kican military leaders were immediately taken into custody by Coalition forces after the signing of the Imperium surrender to be tried for war crimes back on Earth in the Hague and on other Coalition worlds.

Admiral Maxwell Woods when interviewed by Earth Broadcasting Network immediately after the Arm’kican signing of surrender stated that the defeat of the Arm’kican will usher in a new era of peace, stability and prosperity in the galaxy. The Astrofleet admiral also added that Earth’s positive role during the conflict was evident that Earth has risen to become a galactic power.

General Tiver of the Xiolar Confederacy however states that with the defeat of the Arm’kican Imperium, a large vacuum of power will form that could result in a power play between Coalition members for the former holding of the Imperium. The general, who was the Hero of the Battle of the T’Zar Nebula, where he single handedly destroyed six Arm’kican cruisers, alluded that it would be Earth who would try to fill the void left.

February 7th 2151

Leaders from member worlds of the Coalition of Free Planets meet on Earth to discuss on the possibility of turning the coalition to become something more than just a military alliance. Earth Prime Minister Thomas Green suggest the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth of Free Planets, an interstellar federal republic that will be composed of all Coalition members and will be based on the principles of universal rights and equality. Green’s proposal is met with much enthusiasm from the Miranians, the Sazalians, the Dwarelian, the Isarians and the Xellerians. The only member of the Coalition that objected towards the formation of a Galactic Commonwealth was the leader of the Xiolar Confederacy, who stated that the formation of this Commonwealth under the leadership of Humans will rob Xiolar of its independence and that it the start to an expansionist Earth. The Xiolarian leader promptly left the meeting after voicing his objections.

After much discussion and debate, a basic working outline for the Galactic Commonwealth was drafted to be presented to each respective member’s planetary government for consideration and for further modifications. Leaders will reconvene on Earth in three standard Earth days to finalise their decision to enter the Commonwealth

February 10th 2151

Leaders from member worlds of the Coalition of Free Planets reconvene on Earth to finalise the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth. All members of the Coalition except the Xiolarian who had ended their membership into the Coalition give their unconditional support for the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth of Free Planets.

The Galactic Commonwealth of Free Planets agreement which all prospective members will have to sign before entering the Commonwealth states that all members of the Commonwealth agree to exist semi-autonomously under a single central government that will manage the defense and foreign policy of the entire Galactic Commonwealth. All member’s planetary government will be able to govern their respective star system as long as it does not violate the basic tenants of universal rights and equality espoused by the Galactic Commonwealth’s Constitution.

First Minister Shaerael Siri from Mirania when interviewed during a brief break session told reporters that there will be initial bumps on the road and growing pains, but nothing that cannot be addressed or solved if given the time.

Prime Minister Thomas Green of Earth was positive that the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth of Free Planets will usher in a new period in galactic history, one of peace, stability, prosperity and exploration.

Salazian official Korin Sirlus told reporters that one of the problems that might arise in the future is the integration of all the different military and exploration bodies of each respective member species.

Ironing out the finer points of the Galactic Commonwealth continued into the night.

February 11th 2151

Leaders of member worlds of the Coalition of Free Planets announce the dissolution of the Coalition of Free Planets and the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth of Free Planets. Leaders also presented the first basic working outline of the Galactic Commonwealth. In the basic working outline presented by leaders, Earth would serve as the capital of the Galactic Commonwealth. Furthermore, Earth’s very own Astrofleet was selected to be the official defense and exploration arm of the Galactic Commonwealth.

The basic working outline also states that in one standard Earth year, elections must be held on each member world to determine their respective representative to the Galactic Commonwealth Council which would act as the legislative body of the Commonwealth. Elections for President of the Galactic Commonwealth will be held shortly after the election of the Galactic Commonwealth Council members. For the time being, leadership of the Commonwealth will be led by a transitional leadership council, whose members will consist of each member world’s foreign minister.

There was celebration on every Galactic Commonwealth member world as news came in on the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth by their respective leaders.

The Xiolarian Confederacy upon hearing the news of the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth sent a very strong worded opposition to its formation to every member world of the Commonwealth via subspace communication.

February 15th 2151

The newly formed Commonwealth Astrofleet Admiralty Board consisting of 15 of the most deserving admirals in the fledgling Galactic Commonwealth meets on Earth to discuss the future direction of the Commonwealth Astrofleet as well as integration issues in terms of personnel and technology.

Admiral Maxwell Woods the former head of Earth Astrofleet expressed that the Commonwealth Astrofleet should be first and foremost an exploratory body and a military body second, like the Astrofleet of Earth before the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth Astrofleet. Captain James Bowman who is the captain of Earth Astrofleet’s flagship Pioneer and the Hero of the Battle of Vega as well as the protege of Admiral Woods agrees with Woods that Astrofleet should be first an exploratory body and a military body second.

Woods’ and Bowman’s views are met with resistance from the Xellerian Admiral Thykar Shyrak who believes that the Commonwealth Astrofleet should be first and foremost a military body, one that will be capable of responding to any threat the Commonwealth might encounter swiftly and decisively.

After much debate and discussion between the gathered admirals, the future of the Commonwealth Astrofleet was put to a vote. The final vote was 9-6 in favour of the Commonwealth Astrofleet being an exploratory body first and a military body second.

“This is the step in the right direction,” said Admiral Atish Kaur said to gathered reporters, “the Commonwealth is not out for conquest and therefore Astrofleet should not look like it is. We don’t want to agitate or antagonize our neighbors.”

February 18th 2151

The Galactic Commonwealth Colonial Authority is established. The Colonial Authority will handle all future Commonwealth colonialization efforts as well as going through data acquired by Astrofleet survey ship on potential future colonies.

The Galactic Commonwealth Colonial Authority’s first mission is to begin colonising the territories that the Arm’kican Imperium ceded over to the then Coalition of Free Planets after the end of the war.

“I’m excited,” answered Colonial Authority Director Dr. Neema Cleasi of Isaria, “this is the first collonization mission under the flag of the Galactic Commonwealth. A lot is riding on the success of this mission.”

The first of the colony ships are set to leave Arcturus Station in the next few weeks.

22nd February 2151

The Admiralty Board of Astrofleet has begun the task of evaluating Astrofleet’s current assets ever since all exploratory and military bodies of each respective member world was consolidated to become the Commonwealth Astrofleet. The Admiralty Board predicts that the evaluation will take up to almost half a year.

The Admiralty Board also has chosen Earth’s former flagship Pioneer to be the first Earth ship to integrate technology from the different member worlds once it gets back from a unity tour of all the Commonwealth’s member worlds.
