The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood~FTT- MusicalTheaterGirl17 vs EternalRain

Hi, my name is Hansel. I'm guessing you already know me. Gretel's brother, breadcrumbs, candy house, witch trying to cook us for dinner? Yep, that's me. This is the story of my girlfriend, Little Red Riding Hood. You're probably thinking, whoa, whoa, whoa Hansel! Slow down! Your girlfriend? Don't worry, I will explain everything. The real story of Little Red didn't start with her skipping off to her grandmother's house with a basket full of bread. We will get to that eventually. The real story started in a palace far, far away, in the kingdom of The Evil Queen.

My father, better known as the huntsman, (no, he was not a kindly old woodsman as you thought) lived in the queen's palace as one of her most faithful servants. My sister and I grew up in the palace, and we where totally different. Gretel has always been everyone's favorite, with her being "polite" and "sweet" and all of that. I on the other hand, was detested by all of those living in the palace. They hated the idea of me being the next huntsman. I was, skinny, weak, and I hated the queen. I saw her for who she truly was, a filthy old hag. This idea really formed when I heard her newest plan at the time.

I was sneaking around the castle, as one does, when I stumbled upon the queen's chamber. I heard voices inside, and from the tone, I knew it was serious. I crouched down in the dark, damp hallway and inched my way along the tall, oak door until I reached the crack. I pressed my ear against the sliver of light and listened. "Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who's the smartest of them all?" At the time, Snow White had not been born yet. I would eventually learn that every day, the queen would ask her mirror who was the smartest, most beautiful, most creative, most talented person every day. The queen didn't just want to be the most beautiful, she wanted to be the best. If the mirror said someone else was better, she would send my father out to kill them. That day's victim happend to be Little Red.

A less commonly known fact about Little Red, is that she is a genius. No one I know can recite pi as fast as she can. This was my first time hearing Little Red's name and I knew right away she was something special. I tensed up as my fathers voice cut through my thoughts. "Your majesty, I would be honored to to be put with the task of killing Miss Red." His voice was rough and hoarse, filled with the vile lust for blood. The queen's voice was ten times worse. It was sickly sweet and was woven with threads of clear, pure hatred. Hatred for everything, everyone, with no ounce of love. From that moment on, even as a young boy, I promised myself that I would never love my father again because I knew killing was wrong. That began my quest to save Little Red.

I knew I had to work fast. Knowing my father, he would want to kill as soon as he could. So of course, I dragged my sister into the whole mess, just to have a little fun. For a little money, I convinced Gretel to go with me into the forest to go find Little Red. I didn't tell her the last bit, but that's just a small teeny detail, right? Dad never paid attention to us, so it was easy to sneak out of the castle and into the forest. It was midnight, and the moon was big and full, a perfect clear night. Gretel, being herself, naturally had to annoy me the whole time. "Lets leave breadcrumbs so we don't get lost." and "Hansel, I'm tired." was all I heard all night. What kind if stupid person would leave breadcrumbs along a path? Also, me get lost? HA!

As you all know, unfortunatally we came across the witches candy house. I, stupidly went in, almost got burned to death, and narrowly escaped. In my house, we don't like to talk about it. We refer to it as "The Candy Incident". Not fun people. Not fun. Skipping over that bit, I bugged Gretel enough that she decided to shut up and after walking for hours more, we finally stumbled upon Little Red.

She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Her hair was beet red, trailing down her back in small, delicate curls that bounced whenever she moved. Her bright red hood flapping on her back as she skipped along. Her eyes were emerald green, and they shone brightly seeming to illuminate her whole face. And her smile. Don't even get me started. I was like a puppy, following her silently through the trees. This mission just took a whole different turn. There was no way my father was killing her.

Now, enter the wolf. The Queen had sent the wolf to distract Little Red from my father who was waiting for her in her grandmother's house. He had tied her up and locked her in the closet to save the wolf some time and was now on the hunt. I knew I had to distract the wolf in some way so I could talk to Little Red, so I did what I do best, annoy people. I pulled on his tail, howled like a wolf, tripped him, taunted him, but he did not change his path. Thankfully he never saw me, because if he did, I wouldn't be telling you this story right now.

Eventually, Little Red made it to her grandmother's house. It was a sweet little cottage, with flowerbeds and a cobbled path leading up to the house. At that point, Gretel was really mad. I had not told her anything of what was going on. I caved in after what seemed like endless nagging and told her the mission. Her face paled when I told her about dad killing Little Red. Her eyes sneaked over to Little Red, skipping up the path to the door. Gretel gulped. "Do you really think you can do this?" her voice was shaky,"I don't want the Queen to be angry." That did it. After all I had  told her about the Queen, she still was on her side? "You know what Gretel." I said panting. "You can leave right now to your precious little Queen. See if I care!' That was probably the best thing I could have done.

At that moment, my father heard us. He burst out of his hiding spot and came at us. He was snarling and shouting at me, telling us to leave and to go away. Right when my father reached his hands out to strangle me, Little Red came bursting out of the house, her now untied granny straight behind her. Her face was determined as she ran towards my fathers arms. Before he could do anything, Little Red was in his arms, with a grateful look on her face.

"Thank you sir! You saved me from that big terrible wolf! How can I ever repay you?" She batted her eyelashes for extra effect. My father was discusted. He dropped her to the ground and pulled out his rifle, but Little Red was to qucik. In the time you could say wolf, my father was down to the ground in a headlock. She knocked him out and pulled him into the warm light of the cottage to tie him up with the wolf.

After a couple of minutes, Little Red and her grandmother came out of the cottage. Little Red wiped her hands on her dress and smiled at me. My mouth was wide open, staring at her. How awesome can this girl be? "Hi." she said, holding out her hand to me."My name's Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red for short." I took her hand and and shook it. My mouth was still wide open. I closed it embarrased. Eventually, I stuttered out, "H-how did you d-do that?" Gretel giggled in the backround, and I glared at her. Little Red smiled. "Did you think I wouldn't suspect a giant wolf follwing me around all day? I caculated that we would arrive at Granny's house around this time, and I figured someone would be waiting for me there, so I just made a plan." I about fell in love right there.

So there you have it. Gretel is still a pain, father is long gone in jail by now, and Little Red is even more awesome. Now you know the true story of Little Red Riding Hood. Wow. It feels great to finally tell someone! Oh! I almost forgot the most important part of any fairytale. And they all lived happily ever after.

Hi MusicalTheaterGirl,

This is an amazing story, it's so funny! Fairy Tales that get connected are always the best, i.e. Into The Woods, Hoodwinked, Once Upon A Time etc. This is just as good. I like that it's in 2nd person which you don't see a lot. It makes the story more friendly. There is one grammar error that I see, it's:

I would eventually learn that every day, the queen would ask her mirror who was the smartest, most beautiful, most creative, most talented person every day.

In that sentence you say every day at both the beginning and the end of the sentence. Other than that your grammar is pretty much perfect as far as I can tell.

The other things are just plot points. How would Little Red be able to take down a hunter who would have trained his whole life and be super buff. Also why would the Huntsman go to jail, isn't he still in the queen's kingdom? Wouldn't she be in charge of his imprisonment? Other that that it's a great story, I bet you'll win your competition! And as always, keep writing.

Thanks so much! I am so glad you liked it! Oh, and by the way, I lost the competition, but it is okay. I will fix those errors. Thanks so much for the advice, I really appreciate it! :)

I loved your story MusicalTheaterGirl17! I don't wan't to be to sappy, but I think your gonna win the contest with this story! I like how lots of times, fairy tales aren't what they seem to be. It's like the true story of the three little pigs, by Jon Scieszka. This was a really funny plot and really funny diolage! I liked Hansel because he said funny things in the story like this line. "What kind of stupid person would leave breadcrumbs along the path? Me? Get lost? HA!" It seems like you had alot of time to work on this. I wish you good luck in winning the contest.
