Behind our theatre curtains
We are still on stage
We never rest
Our beautiful performance
Only if you heard the beat through my vest
Our little secret
Hidden in the back your neck
Only I can see how it shines
Only I can find where it lies
From far away
From close enough
They can feel it
They can see it
Even I got caught in the show
I can’t see through your walls
I can’t recall the script
Is this real?

Hello!
This is a thought-provoking piece that explores the concept of performance and authenticity. The speaker suggests that we are constantly performing, and that the true essence of our selves is often hidden behind a curtain.
The use of metaphors and imagery in the poem is effective in conveying the message. The line "Our beautiful performance" implies that we are putting on a show for others to see, while the metaphor of the beating heart hidden beneath the vest suggests that our true emotions and desires are concealed from others.
The repetition of the phrase "Only I" adds a sense of intimacy and exclusivity to the poem, emphasizing the idea that the true self is only known to the individual. The ending line, "Is this real?", leaves the reader with a sense of ambiguity, prompting them to question the authenticity of their own selves.
Overall, the poem is well-written and thought-provoking. The use of metaphors and imagery is effective, and the message is conveyed in a concise and powerful manner.
Hi upinthearcher,
It's me again, leaving you a review!
I have to say I never really read a lot of poetry. But your poems always make me want to read them. I mean look at this masterpiece you have written again.
"Behind our theatre curtains
We are still on stage
We never rest"
Nice start, it's really open and full of spirit. It really brings the title to life. Love it <3
"Our beautiful performance
Only if you heard the beat through my vest
Our little secret"
You've really got this one down. The phrase of the hard beat, fits in there perfectly. And this part "Our beautiful performance, Our little secret" is also so cute and adorably squashed in there.
"Hidden in the back of your neck
Only I can see how it shines
Only I can find where it lies"
Wow! This is great, "hidden in the back of your neck", good choice of words, I must say. I love the rhyme between the last two lines.
"From afar
From close enough"
These are just cool, ordinary words with a magical touch I would say.
"They can feel it
They can see it"
Talking about the participants, I suppose. If that's it, well done. I understand it and it's very beautiful.
"Even I got caught in the show
I can't see through your walls
I can't remember the script
Is this real?"
I could sympathise with these sentiments, well done. I love the last sentence, very well thought out. The narrator is speaking here, I suppose.
I love it, very short and boldly written. I like it very much, it's sweet.

Thank you! This makes me so happy.
Ohhhh I like this. I love short poetry and to the point aha, I liked "we never rest, our beautiful performance"
I feel like the whole poem is all about the ending line "is this real?", and it explores ideas of lying or putting on a show for someone. When I thought this, I read the poem from the bottom to the top and I think it works well that way too! I liked this poem!
Thank you <3
