Silence

PreviousNext

Silence at first
As I stand
In this peaceful place
In this solemn land

The quiet is then broken
By a single step.
After one, come many
Down the path they swept.

The shaded trees around me
Dyed in shades of red
Still they stand, without a sound
Honoring the dead.

A lonely wind rattles through
Taking leaves as it goes
And as it does, I begin to hear
All the past's echoes.

The mother who lost her boy
When he was only five.
Another man who took his life
Tired of being alive.

These stones, they tell stories
Never again will be heard
Unless someone will listen
To the words of the interred.

It's nice to finally meet someone who appreciates the solemnity of cemeteries as much as I do.

First off, I would like to say that I enjoyed this piece very much. Though I am not particuarly a fan of the most common rhyming stanzas, you have peaked my interest and captivated me with your carefully chosen words.

This piece is truly beautiful. I find absolutely nothing wrong, except that you may wish to add some punctuation here and there.

The shaded trees around me
Dyed in shades of red

Here, I might change the "shaded trees" to something more like "spindling". This is because of the "shades" in the next line. Merely a suggestion. However I love how you suggest the leaves being "dyed". It gives it a more grotesque and dark appeal.

These stones, they tell stories
Never again will be heard
Unless someone will listen
To the words of the interred.

I love the use of the word interred. Love, love, love it. Vocabulary is important, and hun, you've got it.

Great job on this, I really enjoyed it. Keep up the amazing work.

Hello, hello, hello!
I would like to start off, even though I'm a few days late, by saying WELCOME!! I hope you are enjoying the wonders this site has to offer you! If you need any help or you would like me to review something, then please feel free to message me or write on my wall and ask, I'd be happy to help/review!
Now onto your poem. This piece is fantastic! I love every thing about it! There's nothing really too major that needs to be fixed, just some small things, mostly grammar.

Please read this before you read my revisions!

Spoiler
Don't feel like you have to make the changes that I suggest! As a poet myself, I know that not all advice, feedback, and critiques are what you think it best for your work. So make changes that you feel will benefit your work! :)

Due to the fact that's it's mostly grammar I shall quote your piece and make suggestion within it.

AndI think that you should get rid of the "and" then capitalize the "as".as it does, I begin to hear
All the past's echoes.I know you're trying for the rhyming scheme and that's cool, I just think if you reworded this line to say "All the echoes of the past." it would flow better and not sound so forced.

I think if you added the word "That" here and made "Never" lowercase it would work better.Never again will be heardsemi-colon

I again ask that you read the spoiler and know that I'm not forcing these changes on you. I just think, in my own personal opinion, that it would sound better with them. :)

My favorite part is:

As I stand
In this peaceful place
In this solemn land

I like the visual this gives, it's nice use of descriptive language! I know a few places like such around my property and across the road from it. ^_^ When I first read this it made me smile because I can picture it in my mind.

Over all this piece is really wonderful and I love it! I'm looking forward to reading more of what you write!
Keep writing,

Beautiful description. I can see everything like its in front of me. I like the concept of silence :) Good work. Keep writing

I think you meant to write that in the box right above my review, 'cause you wrote that comment on the review I wrote for this piece.
