Fake Identity

PreviousNext
I mask my pain daily
as you attack my heart
stealing my confidence
wrenching away my soul
you don’t love me

I wander aimlessly around
waiting
for permission to speak
I can’t hold my ground
you don’t hear me

I look in the mirror
unrecognizable
you stole my face, my mind, my being
I am small
you don’t see me

I try to achieve
something
you’d be pleased about
but
you don’t believe in me

I try to tell the truth
to do my chores and homework
I walk my dog and feed
the kids but
you don’t notice me

I go after my dreams
or try
and stand up for my faith
hoping you’ll see but
you don’t encourage me

now
after a long time
I finally learn to hide
to make myself invisible so
you don’t hurt me

all you do is yell
but I know
if I stay away and obey
maybe I’ll surive
you don’t love me

I disappear
I submit
I watch
I guard
you don’t see me

I pretend to be
happy
to love you so much
when really
you don’t notice me

but I continue on
small and subservient
cautious and confined
anxious and afraid hoping
you won’t hurt me

and I keep hoping
maybe someday
I won’t have to hide
or pretend any longer
you don’t know me
‘cause I’m wearing my
fake identity

Wow, this pretty much sums up all the emotions I can't seem to label whenever I'm feeling depressed or bitter because of someone. This poem is like a swirl of angst, resentment and maybe just a tad of loneliness (maybe thats just me :P) and the words flow so nicely.

For some reason, I think my favorite part is

"you stole my face, my mind, my being
I am small"

It really reached out to me on how simple the words are yet how much they mean to me. Really good job on this poem :)

The most important thing is to have fun! Stress makes for distress and neither of those belong in writing!
