Where's My Happy Ending?

                            Where's My Happy Ending?

You know how when you watch those sappy romantic highly dramatized Hollywood movies   and you almost always find yourself rooting for the couple supposedly irretrievably in love yet cannot be together for some reason or the other? You pray fort hem to get their happy ending and more often than not, they do. The simple reason being Hollywood producers want to keep the paying customers happy and nothing makes the people happier than a feel good story where the lovebirds overcome all sorts of obstacles, managing to stay together till the end. But to disappoint the optimists among you, that is the complete opposite to how it works in real life. You don't have your Romeo and Juliet's just like you don't have your Twilight's which is the sad adaption of a modern day happy love story.

In real life, a grand gesture does not woo the girl, nor do you get to commit some great act of self-sacrifice, cementing your place as a hero. No, in your life, you think you have found love, only to have your heart broken in to a million pieces. You find yourself wallowing in self-pity, your only solace being provided by extremely loud music and cheap alcohol. The only reason I am telling you my story is cause I think you deserve to know what fickle creatures women are. Some of you may think I sound sad and bitter but that is simply cause I am.

I was eighteen when i thought i had found the love of my life. I was a high school senior and she a sophomore. Now, the first time I saw Emily it was very much like the movies. The entire hallway going dark while she shone like a beacon. There wasn't anything particularly beautiful about Emily except for that one thing, her eyes. I cannot describe them in a way that would do them justice, but one could definitely get lost in those hazel colored eyes. Well I certainly did. I fell hopelessly in love with them and her. As for myself, contrary to what my mother believed, i was not the most handsome boy in the world. No prince on a white horse, but i wasn't half bad either

From the moment I saw Emily, I knew I was a goner. My insides went all warm and fuzzy and she became a permanent resident in the house of chaos that was my mind. It was quite apparent to me that this wasn't just another crush, i had had plenty of those but this was different. And so for the first time I decided it was time to actually walk up and talk to a girl. No room for being a coward if you are in love. What made it perhaps harder though was the fact she was aware of my feelings for her. She had seen me stealing glances at her. And if that was not a big enough giveaway, almost half the school seemed to know that Nathan  Parker had a huge thing for her, surely she had heard.

The day I finally mustered up the courage to go talk to her is one that I still rue. Not cause it didn't go well, for it did, but cause if I had stayed my craven self, then none of this would have happened and I wouldn't be telling the sad story of my life to empty beer bottles. Yes, even my drunk mind knows what you guys are. Back to the story. The adrenaline coursing through my veins, I was ready to talk to the girl I had hopelessly fallen in love with without even knowing her last name. I didn't to for it was after all love at first sight. As I approached her, everyone seemed to be aware of what was about to go down. All her friends backed up but i could still feel their eyes fixed undeterred on me. As was the entire school's. At the time my mind yet virgin to the cruelties of this world thought it was the smart of something truly wonderful. They say hindsight is 20/20 but honestly I would make that mistake over and over again, not unless i am drunk of course.

Emily and I connected on levels i never had done with anyone else before. She to me, was simply ravishing. Always cheerful, she had this ever present smile on her face. Her constant blushing and those eyes. For a while, she did really make me want to be a better person.

My plans were already made. Emily was the girl i was going to end up with, the one i would marry and have a family with. Grow old with. But God you see, had other plans. Three months into our relationship Emily was diagnosed with cancer.

I like this part very much: 'From the moment I saw Emily, I knew I was a goner. My insides went all warm and fuzzy and she became a permanent resident in the house of chaos that was my mind.' They were really excellent usages of writing techniques.
I wished you could develop your ending a little bit more. I read your comments that you did not want to write sappy endings to make it too predictable. However, you could have extended it a little bit more, for example: what happened afterwards? Because the short ending, in my view, was a little bit disappointing, after all your careful building of the story.
Anyway, I like reading this story. I can totally see your emotion and despair through the words. Wish you have a fruitful time writing!

I really did like the way you built up the story sentence after sentence, and finally in a couple of paragraphs but finished in basically those last two. It was almost like you really did "kill" (like the last guy said) the mood that was building up, all the hopes for the future and that momentary happiness....and it took you just some few words to let us know how it was brought down.

I normally don't read short storys (this one being even smaller), but I do have to admit I liked it. I really did, and especially that part where he admits just talking to empty bottles, it just said a lot of him...that he was beyond grief and sorrow and probably just had a need to spill it all out and tell his story.

Thanks for it! :3

Thanks a lot. And I get what you mean. Didn't want it to go down the predictable route that stories like this one usually go down. Thanks a bunch :D

wow. hell. it started off so happy, sort of...but then...I'm happy that you didn't go with the cheesy gross sort of love. It was very discriptive and emotive, you really felt the connection. You also did not describe her looks too much which was awesome because so many romances seem to be just about how the couple looks and not the emotional connection. It was really good and then it was just...oh crap, like wow, i can't swear but basically you killed the emotions you had built up while i was reading the rest. In a good way though.

I didn't want to do the sappy ending cause well I don't like stories that end that way. Besides that would just make it incredibly predictable. I am glad you liked it :D

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.
