Social Phobia

Well now that victory is mine,
I should be fine.
But knowing there's a next time,
the fear only climbs.
Overwhelming emotions,
my instincts taking control.
What's happening here?
I thought I was on a roll!
For one amazing moment,
The fight was done,
the battle won.
When in the long run,
this war has only begun.
But I won't give up hope because it's all I got.
Will I have to say I quit
or that I stayed and fought?
Come what may, I'll never stop.
So when the dust settles,
I'm still on top.
Shooting for the stars,
aiming for the moon,
see me walking down the street singing a different tune.
It says,
I know where I come from
and I know who I am.
I know who I wanna be,
and I know where I stand.
I know who's against me
and I know who's my friend.
And with their help,
victory will be mine in the end.

Hey!

I gotta admit, this poem kinda blew me away. It leaps off the page, its real, raw emotions that are brutal but hard to take your eyes away. I love the rhyme and the flow makes it more memorable to the reader.
My favourite lines have gotta be

'I know where I come from
and I know who I am.
I know who I wanna be,
and I know where I stand.'

I just love it, its like despite all that fear your still yourself!
I think this entire poem could not only relate to a social phobia but bullying and feeling seperate from everyone else. I kinda like poems split into verse but i thought it worked in this case. I'm glad you got over your phobia, fears are so hard to take control of and get over. That takes a very special kind of person. I know how you feel, writing has helped me too, I've suffered with type one diabetes since the age of 3 and it can be so hard sometimes. If you ever want some to talk to about writing or just life in general it would be great to hear from you :)

Best love and Wishes

Well, the inspiration for this poem was that I had severe social phobia, and I spent a whole year just trying to step into the school. The whole thing about "knowing there's a next time the fear only climbs" was how I would get into school, but then after I did it, my therapist, family, friends all expected me to do it every day. Luckily I got in school this year and am doing great. Writing has really helped me get feelings out that I wasn't able to express any other way.

Wow, this was cool. It spoke to me, most poems don't do that. It's pretty relatable and makes sense. And I love the rhyming scheme, it's new and different and unique. Continue writing, you're good at it.

Hi, there! Welcome to YWS!

I really enjoyed this poem. It's powerful and well-written and poignant. I loved that there was a rhyme, but I noticed that it wasn't particularly consistent. I'm not sure if this was intentional?

The fluidity and passion of the writing reminds me of a song; your poem has nice rhythm and emotion. I didn't find any nitpicks, but I don't really see how the title fits into the poem. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems that the poem doesn't address what the title's suggesting.

Overall this is a fantastic poem: it's heartfelt and affecting. Keep writing! :D
