Writer Me vs Normal Me

E - Everyone

Me: Okay, today we’re going to be normal. No overthinking. No dramatizing. Just… normal.

Writer Me: Totally. Absolutely. I’m just going to sit here quietly and—

Writer Me: what if we killed off a character today?

Me: We’re at the grocery store.

Writer Me: Exactly. Perfect setting for emotional devastation.

Me: No. We’re buying bread.

Writer Me: And what if the bread aisle is where the protagonist realizes they’re in love?

Me: Please stop.

Writer Me: I can’t. I’m literally you.

......

Me: We need to sleep. It’s midnight.

Writer Me: Great. That’s when I do my best work.

Me: No. We’re sleeping.

Writer Me: But what if—hear me out—what if the villain has a redemption arc?

Me: I’m begging you.

Writer Me: And what if the redemption arc is tragic and poetic and—

Me: I SAID SLEEP.

Writer Me: But I can—

Me: NOOOO.

......

Me: Can we just enjoy this sunset?

Writer Me: Sure.

Writer Me: …but also, how would you describe it in a book?

Me: I don’t know. Orange? Gold? Pretty?

Writer Me: Pretty? That’s the best you’ve got? Pathetic. Try again.

Me: I literally just want to relax.

Writer Me: Relaxation is for people without imaginary worlds to maintain.

......

Me: We’re meeting someone new. Be normal.

Writer Me: Of course.

Writer Me: analyzing speech patterns… cataloging mannerisms… assigning them a tragic backstory…

Me: STOP THAT.

Writer Me: Too late. They’re already a side character.

......

Me: Can we please just live a normal life?

Writer Me: No. But we can write about one!

Hello @starlight16 Detective Ira here, I have apparently stumbled upon your manuscript while searching for clues in the Devil’s Library, which is where I believe the ancient magical book of Toramu is hidden. Since I’m already here, I shall give my opinion on this piece of yours.

Though I have to say it is very strange that I should find your writing here……. hmmm…..

What I can see

God I absolutely loved this!! I love everything about this, and it is so relatable like yes we do plot murder in the grocery and line and keep ourselves awake with dreams of plot twists. Honestly I'm a little jealous I didn't think of writing something like this myself. ;)

The humour is absolutely spot on and left me wanting for more in the best way possible.

Writer Me: analyzing speech patterns… cataloging mannerisms… assigning them a tragic backstory…

Me: STOP THAT.

Writer Me: Too late. They’re already a side character.

This has to be my favourite part! Our inspiration from our real lives in such a bane and boon it's hilarious. Of course our writer personas are like grumpy veterans who make us self-flagellate and of course they don't care about our lives. Getting pretty venom vibed chemistry and setting from this like long suffering friends and I am living for it! Very well done.

Under the magnifying glass

I will say though that the formatting is a little messy in it's current form. I would recommend writing it like this ~

Me: Okay, today we’re going to be normal. No overthinking. No dramatizing. Just… normal.

Writer Me: Totally. Absolutely. I’m just going to sit here quietly and—

Writer Me: what if we killed off a character today?

Me: We’re at the grocery store.

just to make it a bit neater, also I struck-though the second 'Writer Me' becuase I don't think you need it.

Closing the case

Overall this was an amazing, relatable funny read and I enjoyed it immensely! :D

It was lovely going through this manuscript of yours. Everything expressed was my opinion, feel free to accept or reject whatever you want.

If you have any clues relating to the book of Toramu or anything you want to clarify feel free to contact my alias, ahem, my dear friend @canopy.

Until next time!!

This is awesome! Hahaha!

I can relate to all those this, and more!

“ Me: We’re meeting someone new. Be normal.

Writer Me: Of course.

Writer Me: analyzing speech patterns… cataloging mannerisms… assigning them a tragic backstory…

Me: STOP THAT.

Writer Me: Too late. They’re already a side character.”

I literally laughed out loud when I read this part.

I’m not sure if I have much to contribute in ways of a critique, only that I enjoyed the internal dialogue very much.

Heyy! It's me again! This was such a relatable read.

The concept itself is immediately engaging, especially for writers. I personally have had moments when I start thinking about what should happen next in my story in the middle of my maths class. You've captured the chaos that goes on in a writer's head very well.

Writer Me: No. But we can write about one!

Let's be honest. I’m pretty sure no character has ever lived a completely normal life :)

That said, I do have a small suggestion. Maybe you could show how you slowly start to cave in to your writer side? Right now, it feels like a constant battle, but it might be interesting to see those moments where you’re tempted or the moments were you eventually give in.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable and relatable read!
