Untitled Project Chapter Four (Title names welcome)

Chapter Four Victorian Academy

The boat ride seemed to last forever. They boat finally landed on the coast at 8:00 in the evening and the students walked down the dock, where Victorian Academy was clearly visible. The school looked like a large mansion instead of a school. The students hiked to the mansion and two men opened the doors and the students entered.

The new students awed at the entryway. It was a bright red room with perfectly polished marble floors and a grand staircase in the middle with oak steps and a banister. Above you could see the banisters guarding the upper three floors. The grand staircase led the second floor and then proceeded to the second and third. Old paintings were hung on the wall and to the left and right were wooden doors that were securely closed. Windows flowed through out the room bringing in the last bit of sunlight for the day.

“Welcome everyone,” a voice interrupted, “You may set your belongings down and they will be taken up to your dormitory for you,” She paused as everyone set down their luggage.

“This way,” She stepped toward the wooden door on the right, “Is where you shall eat every meal and all the class rooms are through this door. So shall we proceed to dinner?”

“Yes ma’am,” everyone said aloud, making an echo through the gorgeous hall.

The woman opened the doors and there was a long, kaki corridor with doors and then a staircase at the end. The floors were the same marble as the entryway and several windows brightened the beautiful corridor.

“These doors will be your classrooms. The classrooms here are very nice and as you can see there are several classrooms here.”

This house was the most beautiful thing anyone had ever seen. Including Arabella. Amberly was in shock. She had never thought anything could be as beautiful as this. David and Travis, and along with the other new comers were in awe of the beauty or the building.

“Up these stairs is the dining hall.”

She started up the stairs with the students behind her. This staircase was wooden as well and spiraled up until they reached an open room with several tables, sitting six people to a table. The floor was wooden and the walls were olive. Windows through out the room brought in light that flowed through the room, shining on the plates and food.

“Please sit with your grade tonight, please.”

The six girl new comers, who not all got along sat at the table. Arabella tried to sit far, far away from Amberly. The boys sat together as well and Travis and David sat at the ends of the table.

The women who gave us the tour went to the front of the room and began to speak.

“Welcome everyone. I am Mrs. Smithens and I’m your headmistress. I see you all received my letter. You have all been called here for this school year and the ones following this one, because all of you show a great deal of talent, talent that can’t match any other talent. Some of you don’t know what your talented in yet, but you are sure you will find out soon. Maybe it’s singing, or dancing, or something along those lines. We are here to train you to be the best at your talent that you can be. We don’t want you to waste this God given talent of yours so 200 years ago someone started this school. Now, like I said, some of you know your talent, and some of you don’t. Either way you are the most talented children in Australia. At the end of the meal we will go over the rules for the school and then you may proceed up the stairs to your dormitory and go to sleep.”

The hall then bursted with sound and everyone began to eat. The tables of the new comers were the quietest of all, for the tension was great. The boy’s table was better and began to mingle the slightest bit, but the girls seemed to not say anything.

The four children whose day had been the worst could see Mrs. Hudinski at the teacher’s table. She looked at the children and gave them a warning face and then began to smile. The food that was served was wonderful and all the students were comfortably full. Mrs. Smithens then made her way to the front on the room and began to speak again.

“I hope you all had a wonderful meal. Tomorrow morning breakfast will be served at 9:00. Now, your dormitory room assignments are posted on the door of your dormitories. New students, you may follow the older students up to the dormitory, but before you go we need to discuss the usual rules.”

“Remember that the opposite sex is prohibited in going into the dormitory and the teachers lounge is completely off limits. The library’s hours have changed and the new times are 11:00 A.M to 9:30 P.M. Except for tonight, dinner is served at 6:00 P.M and you must be in your dormitories by 10:30. Classes begin at 9:30 and end at 3:00. If you skip a class that’s an automatic detention. It’s now 8:45 and you may proceed to your dormitories. Sleep tight.”

Arabella, Amberly, Travis, and David followed the older students down the stairs and the corridor and back into the entryway. The students followed the staircase to the third floor where the staircase parted and went separate ways. The girls went to the left and the boys went to the right.

The wooden door was opened and a small study was uncovered. It had a fireplace, tables, couches, and then surrounding the room were doors. The study was a warm yellow surrounded with lots of windows. Arabella searched the door trying to find her name carved into the silver. Amberly did the same and next to the fireplace she found her name carved beautifully into the silver. Below her name was something that caught her breath. Her roommate. Arabella!

Arabella came across the door and the two stood looking at each other for several moments, becoming very angry. Finally Arabella shoved Amber out of the door and opened it. The room was the same color of yellow and had two long wall length windows. There were two single twin beds next to the windows separated by a night stand with a lamp. A dresser was against the wall and that was all that could fit.

“Okay look!” Arabella said angrily, “Neither of us want to room together, but since we have to, lets just try to forget about it. You don’t go in my space and I wont go in yours. Deal?”

“Fine!” Amber said back.

Arabella set her giant piece of luggage on her bed and began to unpack. Amber set her small bag, less than half the size of Arabella’s and slowly began to pull out all of her clothes. Arabella unloaded all her clothes and set them in the dresser. In the top shelf of the dresser was six uniforms. Three for Amber and three for Arabella. All of Ambers belongings fit in one drawer and she closed it after herself. Arabella brought several clothes and shoes. She brought nick knacks and candles to dress up the rather plain room given to them. Amberly changed in to her pajamas and raised her pillow. Beneath it was a note.

Detention for you, Arabella, Travis, and David will be held tomorrow evening in the library at 7:30 P.M. Make sure to where your uniform.

“Arabella?” Amber asked.

“Hmm?”

“Look under your pillow.”

Arabella looked under her pillow and found the same note. She grimaced at the note and pulled her nightgown over her head and got into bed. The violet bedspreads were soft and Amber had never felt something as lovely as that. Loud sounds were coming from the study room outside the door. Arabella fell right asleep, for she was used to the noise because of her four brothers and sisters. Amberly on the other hand stayed awake listening to the muffled sounds outside her door. She could tell most of the voices were older. Then she heard a boy’s voice.

“Arabella!” Amberly whispered.

“Hmm?” She answered.

“There’s a boy in the study!”

“You’re just hearing things. Go back to sleep, Amberly.”

“Get up. We have to go out there!”

“You do it.”

“Fine! I will!”

Amber opened her door and looked into the study. There were three girls sitting on the couches by the window. She looked around and didn’t see any boy, so she shut the door.

“See…you were just hearing things,” She said sleepily, “Now please go to bed!”

Amber and Arabella fell asleep and slept through the night in their new room.

The boys went into the dormitory and were in awe just like the girls. The dormitory was just like the girls, but the warm yellow was more of a warm olive. David and Travis searched for there room started at the opposite ends of the room. In the middle of the doors Travis and David met at their door. Their faces had a blank stare and they entered their room without a word. David set his bags on the floor next to his bed and laid down on the wooden bed, messing up the perfectly made green bedspread. When his head hit the pillow he heard a slight rustle. David sat up and looked under his pillow. He found a note and read it out loud.

“Detention for you, Travis, Arabella, and Amberly will be held tomorrow evening in the library at 7:30. Make sure to where your uniform.”

“Where did you get that?” Travis asked as he unpacked his clothes and set them in the dresser.

“Under the pillow.”

“Let’s set some things straight,” Travis said.

“Speak.”

“Obviously the fight earlier pretty much explains we will never be friends, so lets just try to have very little to do with each other and try not to talk, okay?”

“That really made you that mad?”

“Yes it did. Didn’t it make you mad?”

“Especially.”

“Then why are we talking?”

“You asked a question.”

“Shut up!”

“FINE!”

David quickly shoved his clothes into his drawers and slipped on his pajamas, while Travis neatly folded all of his clothes including David’s. Travis found that David had quickly fallen asleep and after pulling on his pajamas turned the lamp on and got his book out of his bag and began to read. David’s eyes began to flutter and the light and frustration came upon him.

“What are you doing?!”

“Reading,” Travis answered innocently.

“Is that all you ever do? Read?”

“No,” Travis replied, barely comprehending what David was saying, for he was to into his book.

“Can you turn off the light, please?”

“Fine!” Travis set his book down and turned off the light.

The two went to sleep exasperated.

Review

Hi sparkle8744!
You asked me to review your story, so here I am.
Your description is good but for some reason I have trouble picturing what you're trying to say. For example:

The wooden door was opened and a small study was uncovered. It had a fireplace, tables, couches, and then surrounding the room were doors. The study was a warm yellow surrounded with lots of windows.

What does the furniture look like? I got the image of dark finish antiques. I'm not sure if that's what you wanted it to look like though. Warm yellow? Are the walls panted yellow or is it the lighting?
Also, I'd like to have an idea of where this story is going, I like how you're taking the time to describe things, but you need something to happen. I don't know maybe it's just me. I don't have time to do a big review so I have to wrap up.
Happy writing! :D
