Prologue - The Stars, The Moon, The Sun

PreviousNext

Once upon a time, long long ago there in the sky lived the sun and the moon. They were indifferent to each other, knowing the other was always there even though they had never laid eyes on the other. The humans on the ground below though, saw each in their beauty and thus many tales were told of the sun and the moon. The sun enjoyed listening to the humans chatter about everyday life, while the moon enjoyed watching the people rest with a smile on their faces. They never would wish for anything more.

One day there was a farmer laying on a grassy hill, relishing the sun’s warmth. The sun felt very flattered by this, and that evening when the sun went to rest, the skies were filled with red and pink hues.

Then that night, when the moon rose into the sky he noticed the bright colors the sun had left behind. He had never seen such colors so he asked the stars, “Why has the sun painted such beautiful colors into the sky?” The stars, who never left the sky, answered, “A farmer was enjoying the sun’s warm embrace. The sun was very flattered by this.”

“Oh, how I wish I could feel the sun’s warm embrace as well.” The moon thought dreamily.

The stars giggled at the thought and said, “Why would you want to feel the sun’s burning fire when your soft light blankets the world in serenity? How silly!”

The moon thought about the words of the stars but didn't think much.

The next day, the sun was watching the lively humans again when the stars whispered to him, “The moon looks down on your warm embrace, he thinks it's like a burning fire.”

The sun was most displeased at these words, for the moon did not know the day so how could he say such things? But then a beautiful melody attracted his attention. There was a bard performing in the streets and he was singing the most beautiful song about the sun’s golden rays. The sun was very flattered by this and forgot about the moon. That evening when the sun went to rest the skies were filled with red and pink hues.

Then that night when the moon rose into the sky he once again noticed the bright colors the sun had left behind. The colors had appeared once again so he asked the stars, “Why has the sun painted such beautiful colors into the sky?” The stars, who never left the sky, answered, “A bard was singing about the beauty of the sun’s golden rays. The sun was very flattered by this.”

“Oh, how I wish I could see the sun’s golden rays,” The moon thought dreamily.

The stars giggled at the thought and said, “Why would you want to see the sun’s blinding rays when your moonlight puts those below in a peaceful slumber? How silly!”

The moon thought about the words of the stars but didn’t think much.

The next day, the sun was watching the lively humans when the stars whispered to him, “The moon looks down on your golden rays, he thinks they blind everyone who indulges in them.”

The sun was most displeased at these words for the moon did not know the day, so how could he say such things? But then a crowd of pedestrians caught his eye and he forgot all about the moon. He was so curious about what attracted humans' attention. When he peeked through the crowd he saw dark ominous paintings of the village landscape. This was nothing like the city he was seeing now, how could they be attracted to such dark and ugly paintings? But the painter who created the collection was being praised by the people for his work at painting the moon. The sun remembered the star’s words and was not at all flattered by this.

The stars giggled secretly in the sun’s rage.

Then that night when the moon rose into the sky he once again noticed the bright colors the sun had left behind. However, the red seemed darker than usual and the clouds were soaked with rage. So the moon asked the stars, “Why has the sun painted such terrifying colors in the sky?” The stars, who never left the sky, told him, “A painter painted the night sky and you in all your glory. The sun was not at all flattered by this. He could not accept the fact that you are indeed better than him and was burning rage. How silly of him!”

The moon was quiet at the news. Was he indeed better than the sun? He thought long and hard about this throughout the night.

The stars secretly giggled in the pridefulness of the moon.

The next day when the sun rose into the sky, the moon was there waiting for him. It was an ominous sight for the people down below for the sun and the moon had never been in the sky together. The moon blocked the sun and thus a period of darkness laid over the land. Their fight shook the heavens and knocked the stars out of the sky and down to the mortal realm.

Then that night when the moon rose into the sky the stars no longer accompanied him, for they were down on the mortal realm begging to be brought up again. The moon heard the stars plead, “Help us, help us please our friend!” But the moon had no sympathy left for the stars for he and the sun found out about their trickery and thus he left them to their now mortal lives.

Forever chained to their past glory.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm here to leave a quick review!!

First Impression: This was quite the interesting little tale. I didn't quite know what to expect coming into it with that title, but I think its a pleasant little surprise and something with quite an intriguing message to convey. I think its a pretty neat piece as a result.

Anyway let's get right to it,

Hmm well this is quite the start here. Its got a very interesting relaxed vibe there in terms of just the way you've introduced everything and I think it sets a nice calming tone here for us to be starting off with here. Let's see where we're going to be headed from here.

How silly!”

Ooooh well that's quite the interesting little argument to introduce there. I don't know if I've ever seen the moon think something quite like that and the way the stars pointed things out is another style I wasn't expecting. Its quite the little problem here and I'm loving this so far.

That evening when the sun went to rest the skies were filled with red and pink hues.

Oooooh well that wasn't quite the way I though that was going to go given how the sun was going earlier, but this is a nice little change of pace and it seems despite the momentary anger we saw coming in there we've got everything calming right down yet again here.

“Oh, how I wish I could see the sun’s golden rays,” The moon thought dreamily.

The stars giggled at the thought and said, “Why would you want to see the sun’s blinding rays when your moonlight puts those below in a peaceful slumber? How silly!”

Ooooh we've got ourselves a little pattern there. Loving that here. I think it ends up now creating ourselves an entirely different vibe here to see the moon almost just dreaming of being similar to the sun while everyone around the moon seems to think the moon has its own special things to be working with.

The moon thought about the words of the stars but didn’t think much.

The next day, the sun was watching the lively humans when the stars whispered to him, “The moon looks down on your golden rays, he thinks they blind everyone who indulges in them.”

Oh dear it looks like unfortunately this particular time the sun does manage to actually keep its rage there. It looks like things could perhaps go just ever so slightly wrong here although I think we really need to glance at the moon and how it reacts I think. It feels like that reaction is going to be the really important one here.

The stars giggled secretly in the sun’s rage.

Then that night when the moon rose into the sky he once again noticed the bright colors the sun had left behind. However, the red seemed darker than usual and the clouds were soaked with rage. Ooooh well that is quite the reaction which I definitely wasn't expecting. I thought the moon this time would simply accept that they are better than the sun but well, well, it seems in the end they both had their flaws and ultimately the stars end up finding both scenarios really funny there. Well, let's see where we're going to go from here.

Oooooooh we end on an eclipse, well that was certainly not where I thought that was going but I am loving the vibes regardless. I think it wraps up this little tale quite nicely although it did end up going pretty the opposite way from what I thought it would given the style of opening that we saw there.

Aaaaand that's it for this one.

Overall: Overall, I think this is a lovely little piece here. Its a pretty simple idea at its core but I think you bring it out really well and it leaves you with a nice little message and a lot to think about.

As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.

Thank you so much for your insight! If I could inquire, how did you think this story was going to go?

Also would you be interested to read more if there was a story built on the idea of this fairytale? Thank you very much for the review, you have no idea how happy it makes me to get my first review!

And thus the stars are now humans. I liked that in the end, the sun and the moon came together. Nothing could keep them apart, for they had come together and created an eclipse. A glowing, endless eclipse. It was rude of the stars to lie, but at least justice was served. I enjoyed reading this prologue. It was very magical.

I hope that you will have a wonderful and fantastic day and night.

thank you for the review it's very meaningful for me! Glad you enjoyed it.
