The candle illuminates the small world she put herself in. The night air is cool and crisp but doesn't enter in to her. The window she looks through is closed and locked tight. The old haggard woman sits with a hand-knit blanket covering herself while her tired, sad eyes stare through the glass. Her skin is wrinkled and turning white but no one can bother her now. For a long time ago, a time of which this old woman doesn't speak of, her love went away to war.
The war is something no one talks of anymore. Men came back home and greeted the women with smiles that were true. But one man did not come back home...and she still waits because those many years ago she didn't get to see his smile. And so she continues to wait in a home that doesn't exist for a man that died too long ago in a war that no one remembers.

Hi! I'm here to leave a quick review!!
Anyway let's get right to it,
Well this is a rather powerful little story here. It is very rare that you tend to run into something quite this small that not only manages to feel very much complete but does so while actually hitting us with some really powerful emotions at the same time. It is perhaps because I have a bit of a weakness for exactly this sort of thing but it really is very powerful here.
I think you've managed to really go ahead and nail this point home of someone who has grown old all alone while waiting patiently, and by the looks of things also seems to have passed away still in that state of being quite so alone and still waiting. I think that last paragraph there especially captures it so beautifully to say how despite the world moving on around her she ended up waiting for someone that would never come home all the way until even that event was long since forgotten much like it seems she ended up being.
This really manages to hit home so so powerfully with just those few words and I honestly can't say much more than good job here. By keeping to so short and just outlining that harsh reality so simply it really sets the stage for this powerful little slice of a reality that would've been all too true to so, so many after a war of that nature.
Aaaaand that's it for this one.
As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.
Stay Safe
