"Oranges"

PreviousNext

Eyes yearn like a puppy with no owner

Spring nights are a sad time for a lover

Soul bright and loud for another

A lost boat in a sea full of wonder

Loving waves surrounded by thunder

Times are hard for a heart going under

Oranges unripe won't give flavor

Time always passes never in your favor

Rotten fruit has nothing left to savor

Heyyyy
This poem is the perfect definition of short but sweet, having plenty of meaning behind it which adds to its beauty.
'Eyes yearn like a puppy with no owner
Spring nights are a sad time for a lover'

You describe loneliness and hopelessness in the first line whereas in the second one, the most apt interpretation I could come up with was that the lover was sad reminiscing about its former lover, having the same emotions as in the first line.

Moving on you describe boats in a sea full of wonder, which in my perspective creates this sense of uncertainty? Just like the feeling of not knowing what to do, when surrounded by numerous opportunities. 'Loving waves surrounded by thunder' - Adding to that emotion, this dilemma in my thoughts, creates the same sense of hopelessness as in the lines before or at most a tinge of yearning for a miracle.

"Oranges unripe won't give flavor
Time always passes never in your favor
Rotten fruit has nothing left to savor"
Your last three lines managed to be my personal fav as it resonates the best. I think you meant to describe the feeling of how you keep struggling maybe both mentally and physically, whereas life keeps dragging you along in all sorts of adversity. You were never able to enjoy truly and now that the time has passed, nothing is there left to enjoy or you simply aren't able to enjoy what you once used to.

I might not have done my best job interpreting the poem, but the poem truly was short and sweet, having great meaning behind it.

Hi!! This is a really beautiful piece!! Here's my personal interpretation of some of these lines of you would like to know:

"Eyes yearn like a puppy with no owner
Spring nights are a sad time for a lover"

I see there is a melancholic setting here, perhaps spring nights used to mean something to the lover? Well, spring is the season of blooming and beginning so maybe something ended which makes the lover sad during spring...

"A lost boat in a sea full of wonder
Loving waves surrounded by thunder"

This honestly creates a sense of isolated struggle, like feeling left out or unloved and still trying.

"Oranges unripe won't give flavor
Time always passed never in your favour
Rotten fruit has nothing left to savor"

This honestly reminds me of the fig tree analogy from the classic "The bell jar." That aside this feels like an experience of a teen living with restrictions, how a person who has a hard time making a decision looses the chance with the passage of time and then at one point becomes old and 'rotten' from regret.
Your piece is amazing, my only suggestion would be to add punctuation for more dramatic pauses :))

thank you so much! i love these interpretations :D

i think once every new ywser realizes they can manifest themselves into the quote gen by making a post about the quote gen, they make a very inconspicuous post about the quote gen, but deep in their hearts, they know they’ll see that post at the bottom of the page one day. (yeah, i see you mods. you brought this upon us)
