For the longest time, I wondered what I believed in. I read hundreds of other “This I Believe” stories, I listened to people talk and tried to deduce what it was that they believed. I tried to take what I heard others say, what I read, and conform those ideas into one perfect belief that I could follow in life.
It didn’t work.
Then, I hit a rough patch, and I remember sitting there on the side of the road with the rain pounding on my face, mixing in with the saltiness of my tears, and I remember wanting to die. I remember sitting there and considering standing up and running into the middle of the street. I remember thinking about ending this utterly painful thing that is life. And I remember standing up and stepping onto the sidewalk, and walking home. I remember living, even when I wanted to do the exact opposite.
And that was when I found out what I believe in. It’s me.
It is me that pulls me out of bed every morning, it is me that has conquered a number of terrifying things, it is me that is still alive. It is me that is strong, and mostly optimistic, and beautiful in a way that I never thought I would ever think I was.
I believe I can be extraordinary. I believe I can change lives with my words.
I believe that I can be strong. I can be always optimistic, I can be beautiful in a way that I know I am.
I believe that I can be proud of who I am. I believe that I can go through twenty rough patches, and not step into the middle of the road.
I believe in myself.

Although this is termed a narrative, it reads more like a charter of beliefs in some constitutional document.
There isn't a storyline to speak of except that you went through a low phase.
It would have been interesting if you had told us what happened to trigger this phase of desperation and painful negativity. Did you lose your job, money, girl-friend .....what? How did it happen? What was the setting? Who were the characters? Did someone reach out to you? Did everyone ignore you?
The opportunity for the protagonist to tell his story was enormous! But it was wasted.
Similarly, you also had the opportunity to tell us how this moment of realisation of the enormous power of self-belief changed the life of the protagonist. Were you a success thereafter? Did you become a super-achiever? Did you start having an enviable social life? Did you find love? Did you devote yourself to uplift the poor? What?
You probably have a lesson for others like you. What was it? How did it matter to them?
Please see if you can include these elements. I really hope you do. I'm waiting for your story!
Have you heard of "This I Believe" stories? They are personal philosophies of people, and the story is how their philosophy came to be and what it is. This is MY personal experience, and what I learned from it, no matter how small. Also, I'm a girl.
Recklessandwild, no offence meant!
No, I haven't heard of 'This I Believe' stories. Forgive me!
I live in the back of the boondocks, and creep out of the woodwork now and then.
I don't like to short-change readers. I believe they're out there thirsting for a good story and I believe in giving it to them. After all, they're paying for these with their time and attention!
This is just my take on your story. Its something errr.... I happen to believe in!
To each his own. Keep writing and good luck!

I know everyone experiences something like this type of a situation in life and some people have not gotten through it. This is clearly very inspiring and I hope to all people going through rough times can read this and know that they can believe in themselves too. This story will definitely make it easier and it is a very relatable piece. It is very thought out and emotional; raw to all who are reading. While there are other stories like this one, the way it is told (and because of personal experiences) it was truly original. This was definitely worth reading and I hope to read more of your work soon!
