Chapter 3:

Marco

As I walked through the school's corridors, something was telling me to make a stop at the library- her favorite place. I don't know if she had managed to learn how to communicate from a distance, but I could hear her voice in my head. Yet again, she's so smart that she probably didn't have to learn it. I stopped to listen properly- my mates looked at me in a concerned way.

"What are you doing?"Folsuve asked, wanting to snigger.

"No...nothing, nothing. Keep walking, we 'ave things to do," We were heading for the potions laboratory, where we would be trying a new spell. Of course we had no permission but that was the whole fun part of it. I had to tell the guys that I wanted to check something in the library.

"Since when do you need to read it from a book?" Strausme spoke this time. He was right. I never used a spell book when experimenting.

"I want to try something harder."That seemed to satisfy them- and to shut them up from other questions. I left them near the potions room and ran out of the castle, and into the library's buliding. I knew she would be there. I just knew it.

The Sheffer and Ghukle 6th years had filled up the library, so I wouldn't have been able to approach her. I didn't care, though it hurt me to not be able to touch her, hold her or smell her; all I needed was a glimpse of her beauty. To see her dashing blue eyes from a distance and her golden hair fall over her shoulders as she read. The usual two were there, chattering away. I could tell she was only reading to block their voices out. I wanted to smile, but I remembered that: A del Rey must never smile at a marcott. At least not in public.

We managed to catch each-other's eyes. I really wanted to smile, but held it back and she tried to pull her gaze away as fast as possible, only she kept looking above her book to see me.

So you got my message?

She said in my head. She was doing telepathy! I cracked. I just had to smile. I must've looked like a mad person, but that smile was impossible to keep in.

I hadn't realised how much time I had taken in the library until I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see Folsuve and Strausme standing there.

"Hey, it's almost time for break! Let's go!" Folsuve said, urgently, gesticulating a 'let's go' sign with his head.

"Let's get out of hear. This place is full of blood-traitors!" Strausme started backing out of the library. I laughed a fake laugh only to not blow my cover. I felt like taking one last look at her, but changed my mind. The three of us walking back out of the crowded library and I felt my heart race with adrenalin and love. I had to see her soon again.

Anna, I tried to talk to her in my head, if you hear this, come out of the library in ten seconds and follow me.

Chapter 4:

Annalane

He stood there, arms at his sides, black hair falling in his face, talking to his best friends. He knew I was watching him, though he gave no indication. I looked over the book I was supposedly reading, tuning out my best friends mutters about homework and focusing on him, wishing I could be there, beside him--

“Annalane, are you even listening to us?” Seb, one of my two best friends said, breaking through my concentration.

“Yeah,” I said distantly, lowering my eyes to my book.

“hmm. Then what did I say?”

I felt my face grow red, and I started stuttering, “well- I..”

Peter and Seb were both staring me down, their faces between laughter and mock anger. Just as Seb opened his mouth to ridicule me, Amy, Peter’s girlfriend walked up, slipping her arms around his waist. “Hi guys,” she greeted us, then kissed Peter on the cheek. “How’s your day been going?”

“Lousy,” Seb replied, then turned back to me. “What did I say?”

I felt their eyes on me. And his too. He would save me. Somehow. “I didn’t hea- hear you,” I stuttered, hating myself. Why did I always have to stammer so?

“Oh okay,” Seb turned a little, to where he was facing Peter and Amy, then spun back around. They were kissing, oblivious to the world.

I relaxed, pretending to go back to my book, but really watching him, who, now that I was out of the lime light, had turned back to his friends.

I hated the lime light.

Amy and Peter eventually broke apart, his hair slightly tousled, her cheeks red. My eyes flitted from Peter to him, it would be time soon. Yes, there it was. He had waved off his best friends, and without a backwards glance entered the castle. I waited, counting the seconds. 1… 2… 3... 4… once ten seconds had passed, I stood, saying; “I left a book up in the dormitories. Be right back.” I walked briskly, trying to keep the excitement out of my step.

Once I reached the empty castle hallway, I locked my eyes on him, who upon seeing me, slipped into an empty broom closet. I ran, not caring if anyone saw me, keeping my eyes focused on that door. I reached it, looked around and turned the knob, slippery metal making my clammy hands slid around till I got a good hold. I flung myself inside. His arms were around me in a second, holding me close to his chest. I breathed in the faint smell of his cologne, my heart pounding. He planted a kiss in my hair, then on my forehead, then my mouth.

My stomach burst into a million happy butterflies, and my arms went around his neck, and he was holding me close and I was holding him, my fingers running through his silky black hair. He broke away, looking at me.

“Hello gorgeous,” Marco said, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Hello handsome,” I said breathlessly, holding up my hand and pressing it against his cheek. He reached up, holding it there, then kissed it.

“I missed you.”

“I missed you too.” I didn’t add it had only been two days since he had last saw me.

He laughed and picked me up, swinging me around. I placed my hands on his shoulders, holding myself steady as his strong arms lifted me up. I looked down at him, his face aglow with happiness. He lowered me, grabbing my face and pressing it against his, his lips meeting mine. There they were again. The glowing gold butterflies of happiness flew around us, singing songs on love. We would have stood there forever, had it not been for the bell ringing, signaling the end of break. He sighed, unable to pull himself away. I felt, one by one, the golden butterflies flit back into my stomach and the bliss that had filled me moments before was gone, swallowed up by the hungry bell.

“We could play hooky,” he suggested, leaning forward, pressing his forehead against mine.

“No,” I said firmly, grasping his hands. “We’ll see each other again tonight.”

“That’s not soon enough.” His voice was hoarse.

“I know,” I kissed him one last time, short and sweet, then turned to open the door. I slipped out, walking to my next class. I turned, just in time to see him mouth something, something I didn’t quite catch. He mouthed it again.

I love you

~

The class slowly filled up, Teenagers filling the room and settling down at their desks. Seb, Peter and I sat down behind Lucy Amber and her best friend Shiloh Sholtz, who turned around in their seats to talk to me.

“Hi Annalane,” Lucy said, her eyes on Seb’s neck. He had turned to talk to Reagan Flammers and Cooper Jones.

“Hi,” I said distractedly, for Marco was pushing his way to the middle, where we all sat. At the sight of his familiar jet-black hair, pale skin and toned muscles, I tensed. I wanted to fall into his arms. But no. I couldn’t. What would Seb think? What would Peter? What would everyone think?

“Quasey, Lyphies.” He didn’t even glance my way.

Good.

Lucy rolled her eyes, looking him up and down in distaste. “Where’s your girlfriend Marco?” she said, her tone sugary sweet.

My heart stopped. Had she found us out? Marco’s eyes, just for a second flitted to my face, then he sneered. “I’m not attached to them.”

I opened a book, struggling to keep my face impassive and stared down at the text-book. When would Professor Cheiros get here?

“Oh?” a new, oily voice piped up, and a white, meaty hand rested on his shoulder. “And would you like to be?”

Shana Grimped appeared at his shoulder, wrapping her arms around him.

Last year, before he and I had fallen in love, everyone thought he would marry Shana eventually. They had been known to make out in corridors, skip class, lock themselves in classrooms. All the things Marco and I didn’t do. And Suddenly, I felt fear grip my stomach, icy shards of jealousy and hate run through my veins. I wanted to use my telepathy skills to make sure he loved me, that he wouldn’t give in to Shana and to make Shana jump out of her skin by talking in her mind. Half of me knew I was being silly. He loved me.The other half wasn’t so sure. And the half that was, wanted me to use my powers to tell him, kiss her, so they won’t suspect anything.

His eyes flew up resting on mine. Had I just done that on accident? The book had mentioned that sometimes, when you are thinking of mental telepathy and something you want to say, it gets transmitted into their minds. Oh. Dear. God. Let me be wrong. I don’t want his pure lips to touch hers—

He looked unsure. His face was confused but he quickly re-arranged it.

“Sure,” he mumbled.

She stood on tip-toe.

The short geek.

And kissed his neck. His eyes were darting around making him look like a cornered animal.

Don’t look like that.

I willed the message into his mind. Now that it had started, it might as well be believeable.

Pretend to be enjoying it. Please for me.

He did. So much, I believed him.

~

The class passed in a blur, my eyes clouded with tears. I wanted, so much to will a message into his mind. But the way he had kissed her, he had looked so comfortable, and would probably still be snogging her, if it hadn’t been for Cheiros walking in.

We sat over our silver cauldrons, stirring rat blood and owl pellets in a green concoction.

A cure for boils. Ick.

The class ended, and I didn’t realize it until everyone else began leaving the room. I started spooning the contents of my pot into a vial and took it up to the Professor, labeling it with my name as I went.

“Thank you Marcott.”

I felt myself recoil. In all my years at this school, not one teacher had called me a Marcott. Not one. And now, one had.

“Sir?” I said, half way between puzzlement and tears.

“Leave you undeserving little rat. You’re not worthy of the things you boast of.” He waved his wand and I felt myself being propelled out of the room.

Once outside, I burst into tears.

Alright, so, my confusion hasn't been eased from the last chapter, and I'm getting more Harry Potter vibes as I read on. You-both of you- need to slow down a lot, and offer more details and more insight to the scene, and what is going on, and clarify things-such as what a 'Sheffer' and a 'Ghukle' are.
Make sure to sure the reader, instead of telling them all the details.

Hello! I haven't read the first two chapters, so I won't be giving as good a review as I could be. However, I've still got a couple comments that you may or may not find useful.

I really like how you didn't dwell on the wizardry part so much. This is a romance novel, and you made it very clear that it was, even in a fantasy world. Kudos! You didn't spend pages and pages explaining where they are! :D

Aside from that though, you've still got some Harry Potter flair here. I can tell you're trying to hide it, what with the different names and such. But still having them go to the "dormitories" and having [five] "houses." I didn't see the first two chapters, so I've no idea how you sorted them or anything (assuming that was mentioned), and you probably already know this; but be careful. ^^

OKAY. That aside! There's grammar/spelling mistakes that got in the way, so make sure you check that. If you need a grammar check, just let me know by PM. I'd be happy to do one for you.

The library scene through me for a loop. Mainly because I think the MC in chapter three told Annalane to meet him outside the library in ten seconds. He didn't start counting 'til after his friends left, yet Annalane still didn't show up. o_O Though maybe that implies she didn't hear the message. Her telepathy does seem lousy.

And yes, I didn't read the first two chapters, but I felt the switch in PoVs were very confusing, assuming that's what you did. I had a hard time keeping track who we were talking about, and it's only the third/fourth chapter. If it was in third person, it'd be easier to keep track. But the reader has two I's to keep track of. It hurt my brain. It makes reading and reviewing hard. xD I'd recommend third person if you're going to switch PoVs like this.

That's all I can really think of. I hope Annalane doesn't lose Marco. D: Why'd he have to go and kiss Shana? That makes me upset. >=( Anyway, you seem to be doing pretty well nonetheless! ;D

Keep writing!
