"The Doctor"

In My Poetry

The Doctor is someone

Who never has a plan.

He loves the Earth

And everything about man.

.

He’s seen more than you can imagine,

Has the ability to travel through time and space.

He never stops moving,

And he never goes to the same place.

.

He rarely adventures alone,

And he never forgets a face.

His companions change him for the better,

And travelling can help them find their place.

.

This man has seen too much.

He doesn’t mention his past.

Now that he’s over 1200 years old,

The hurt will surely last.

.

The Time War was the battle

In which he fought.

He’s seen too many people die,

But death never stops.

.

He was born for war

And was full of hate.

But his companions helped him;

Now he’s full of love and pain.

.

The Doctor is very contradicting,

He has many different ways.

He has the biggest family on Earth,

But he’s lonely all the same.

.

He’s a determined man

For many reasons

And in many different ways.

He protects things in all seasons.

.

He’s proof that emotions destroy,

But he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Lots of bad things happen,

But he can usually save the day.

.

When he can’t save the day

There is only scare.

Even The Doctor might give up hope,

So it’s good that it’s rare.

.

He will defend our earth

Till his very last breath

Because he has faith in mankind.

He believes in us even if we transgress.

.

So if you see a blue box

And a strange looking man,

Go after him

Because all of time and space is in his hands.

As a fellow Doctor Who fan I'd like to say well done for fitting everything about him in one poem.
Structure:
Throughout you have sustained a regular rhyming scheme of abcb which is hard to do. However, in some parts you leant toward half rhymes which I felt ruined the rhythm. Apart from rhyming you have used free verse; in some aspects this adds a story feel to it, but at the same time it also disrupts the rhythm.
The story:
I like how you have kept everything accurate and kept an ongoing story about the Doctor's life. I think you did a very good job in adding an emotional hint inside the lines-this makes it a lot more personal and interesting for the reader. However, I feel you could have made it a little more mysterious to match the life of the Doctor. You could do this by not revealing his name in the first stanza and build up to it at the end. Thats all,
Godly

I was trying to read through this but there seems to be a lack of rhythm. I really didn't like this. Sorry, it's nothing you did wrong just personal preference.

pendr replied · Oct 28, 2014

That's totally alright. Rhythm is something I need to work on. Thanks!

Hello, pendr! I don't read Doctor Who, but it was interesting to hear about him. Nice rhyme scheme you've got there, don't have any problems with that. Wait, one thing. Some lines were too long and some too short. But if I read them a specific way, then it would be all right. I also have to say, don't capitalize every line. A poem is basically sentences separated into different lines. Would you capitalize those words in a sentence? Probably not. My suggestion is to view this poem as several sentences and fix your capitalization.

Nitpicky stuff time! First thing I noticed--you don't have a comma in "1200". It kind of bugs me, this type of little stuff, but if you don't want to change it I can understand. It is definitely your decision.

" Now that he’s over 1200 years old,

The hurt will surely last."

The dreaded repetition shows up here. "Save the day" was repeated twice, which is one time too many for me. You could replace it with "do heroics" or something.

"But he can usually save the day.

.

When he can’t save the day

There is only scare."

Also, I think you should put an apostrophe before "till". It doesn't work for me any other way. Sorry if you don't want to change it, though.

"He will defend our earth

Till his very last breath

Because he has faith in mankind."

I liked the ending very much. Keep writing poems and express your feelings. I can see you as a famous author one day!

Thank you @Zhia, for clarifying that for me. And @pendr, you're very welcome for this review.
