What Am I?

“Arabella? Arabella you have to wake up.” Said Mr. Thompson

Pushing my body up off that icy classroom floor felt horrible . I’ve always dreaded looking at it now my body was sprawled there. My head felt like it had gotten hit with a brick. The pain was terrible and I didn’t have a single rational thought running through my mind.Putting all that aside I croaked,”Mr...Mr. Thompson? Why am I still here? I thought I was going home?”

He gave me a weak smile and a let out a chuckle."Arabella you don’t remember?” Looking at him like he was a complete psycho I slowly pulled myself up into a sitting position. This time he laughed but it sounded sorrowful and hollow. “After I came and got you last night from behind the pizzeria we talked about what had happened. You wouldn’t tell me much though you just kept saying: I need to take a shower. I need to sleep. So you went home, took a shower, and slept briefly.” He paused and took a sip of water from a cup that he’d been holding in his pale hand. “But then you did something rather odd.You came back telling me about a dream that you’d had about your victim. But I must tell you this Arabella, don’t think you told me everything about that dream of yours.” He raised an eyebrow,"Just an assumption.”

As the last words sunk in more and more flashes of the night before came to mind. For a while i sat motionless staring far ahead at nothing in particular, tracing through every single memory of that gruesome event. I started to rub at my temples but that just caused more and more pain. Mr Thompson grabbed both my arms abruptly. “Arabella what are you doing? Stop we have to talk about this. If we don’t who knows what could happen next time.”

Enraged I said venomously, “There won’t be a next time, just lock me up here!I’ll never hurt anyone again!” My head began to hurt worse and my breathing grew heavy.

Mr. Thompson tried to look stern but instead he looked more like a concerned father. There were tears in his eyes as he said, “Don’t you get it? You’ll die if you stay here for the rest of your life. You’re not who you used to be. You’re a vampire! What are you going to do if this gets too out of hand? What if the next person you choose to attack and kill is your mother or...or even your sister?” His eyes were almost overflowing with emotion at this point. I felt bad for him having to practically give up his whole life to teach me but what he said pushed me over the edge and I couldn’t be pulled back over.

Selfishly I pushed him forgetting the power that came with being a vampire. “Don’t say that! It will never come to that!” I beckoned. His body appeared limp as he soared across the room. His body fell like a brick and left a dent in the floor. For a great deal of time he sat there in astonishment. It didn’t take long for him though to swipe the loose pieces of the floor from his casual looking clothes and stand right back up on his feet. I let out a sigh of relief, if he was a human that could’ve killed him but he wasn’t. He was a vampire like me.

“You know it’s true.” He said swiftly crossing the room towards me. “You’ve already killed several other innocent people now it won’t be long before you kill those you truly care about. You know the rules for feeding on humans yet for some reason you can’t follow them. Also this strength you have when you’re feeding what is it? “ He let out a sigh. “So many questions but no answers. We need to get to the bottom of this or a lot of people are going to die Arabella.”

My throat felt like it was being blocked by bricks. I knew every word of what he said was true but I wanted it so bad to be a lie. Almost choking on my grief I said, “What am I?”

“ No the question isn’t what are you we already know that now don’t we? We need to figure out how to control this thing, this….this gift of yours.”

I let out a melancholy snicker. “Gift? This couldn’t possibly be considered anything even remotely close to a gift. It’s a curse.” I couldn’t help but cry I’d been holding it back for the entire time. Mr. Thompson watched me for a short moment that felt like forever then said, “Arabella don’t cry we’re going to find out how to control it. I sense something greater something dreadful and I think this thing you have may have something to do with it. Though I’m not sure” His sapphire eyes were still glazed over with angry tears and his porcelain face looked weary. Seeing Mr. Thompson like almost made me shrivel into a ball. I’d always looked up to him but now it seemed that he was looking for all the answers in me. This all had happened so abruptly. I just wished it would stop ,everything. It wasn’t that easy any more though, nothing was ever easy when it started with me. Realizing this I looked down at my hands and said, “Where do we look for our answers? I’m tired of questions.”

“Why don’t we start by reviewing the rules and then maybe if you’re ready you can tell me about that dream of yours.” His eyes were intent on me as he waited for me to speak. It looked almost as if he was afraid of what was going to come out of my mouth next. I said nothing but his face grew more and more grim sensing the worry in my face he said, “Tell me the all the rules starting from one.”

I glanced at him and said, “Mr. Thompson you and I both know which one applies to me the most. So I’ll just say that one okay?” He nodded.

“No matter what the human you feed off of must not die. Vampires aren’t meant to be horrible creatures though past mistakes have set bad examples. You must drink as much as you need for nourishment not pleasure. If you drink too much they will die but if you drink only the amount you need, they will live and forget.”

Why are they in a classroom? Is Mr. Thompson the who changed her, because we can tell that the rest of her family aren't vampires.

Again, the story's good. Very interesting and mysterious. I cannot wait to find out how she is special and why. The type of vampire she is. :) Keep writing it's goinggreat.

I like where this is going! Arabella's sudden burst of anger and super strength made for some good action. I just have one question, though. Why did you put an extremely important scene in a prologue instead of a chapter? If there had been a huge time lapse, I would understand, but this chapter is a follow-up of the next day. It's okay, of course, but remember that not every story needs a prologue. You may have your reasons and I'm sorry if what I'm saying won't pertain to the story.

I really like Mr. Thompson's character. You painted a picture of a very depressed man. However, I agree with SunsetSprite that some of his dialogue is too much. It would be excellent if you could master balancing dialogue with some details and action. Instead of Mr. Thompson just unloading a bunch of information at one time, you could have some action happen and have Mr. Thompson explain afterwards. Just a bit here and there. And also, I would refrain from Arabella constantly wanting to cry, and the same goes for Mr. Thompson.

I honestly love how you ended the chapter. I personally love ending something with dialogue because it can sink in. No further descriptions are needed. And I think that's what some of your dialogue needs. You don't always have to put he said or she said. Sometimes it's good to change it up a bit. As long as you make it clear who is talking (like if you have more than three characters talking at a time) you can leave the dialogue alone. It also cuts down on big paragraphs.

It was such a pleasure to read your story so far! Keep up the great work. Let me know when you post the next chapter so I may review it as well!

Hello!

Okay, before I continue, I must say that I have read your prologue so I got what was going on...Vampires.

Have you ever heard of this anime, (if you watch any), called Vampire Knight? This kind of reminds me of it.

However, the speech in this, to me, sounds really robotic. Like when there's that massive paragraph when Mr Thompson is speaking to Annabelle. I like how you added the description in the speech, I'll admit, however he's saying so much information at once that my mind is like jelly, you know? I'm confused at what he is saying at the beginning, then he's saying this and GAH! I would suggest adding some more scenery in this, to make a painting in my mind.

Speaking of which, the description in this is good. I could see them talking, like a movie! However, it's like it's a crime scene or as if someone is dead and I bet you wanted to add the scary things that come with horror stories, eh? This is the only thing I will say...MORE DESCRIPTION. XD

Some grammar things but you know, we're not all human...XD See what I did there?

Overall, this has a great story line and all, but I would just suggest to try and make less dialogue and more of a scene!

PLEASE DON'T BE MAD A ME! I'm only here to help you.

Bye bye!

You are right, it does make more sense when you read the prologue. If you don't then you wouldn't know what they were talking about.

In the start, you said I'd. I'd would mean I would, or I could. I think the right thing would be I've meaning I have.

As a short review- You need to capitalize some letters, like 'I'. Also you need to space out some things, and some things are spaced out a little bit too far. I didn't see anything misspelled so you missed that crack in the road.

So far so good!

Thanks i'll fix it.
