someone to hold
someone to trust
someone to hold on as long as I must
someone to care
someone to bear all my pain
I search, but do not find
for the love of my life
in the parking lot, and on the subway
In the alley, and at the bus stop
for a love I have never got
i see the young men and women
passing by
and holding hands
wishing I was one of them
they tell me I am too young to think about love
but i would rather chase after it
than growing old alone
I'm still waiting for that special someone
who'll treat me like the prettiest thing in the world
and who will be the someone I love.

Hi hi! Hop here with a review!! Please give me some grace, as I am not so good at reviewing... Thank you for understanding! Now, onto my review ~~~~~
This poem was so soft and full of longing, and it made me feel a little achey in the chest in the best way. The repetition at the beginning “someone to hold, someone to trust” was so gentle and steady. It felt like the speaker was whispering a wish into the universe, hoping someone would hear it and answer.
The line “someone to hold on as long as I must” really got me. It’s not just about wanting love, it’s about needing someone to stay. That kind of vulnerability is so real and you wrote it in such a quiet, honest way.
I loved the way you described searching for love in everyday places. The parking lot, the subway, the alley, the bus stop—it made the longing feel constant, like the speaker is always looking, always hoping. And then “for a love I have never got” just hit so hard. That line was simple but it carried so much weight.
The part about watching couples pass by and wishing to be one of them was really tender. It felt like the speaker was standing just outside of something they desperately want to be part of. And when you wrote “they tell me I am too young to think about love,” I felt that(I'm 13 so..) People always act like love has an age limit but feelings don’t wait for permission. That line made me want to defend the speaker a little, like no, let them feel what they feel.
The ending was so sweet and hopeful. “Treat me like the prettiest thing in the world” was such a soft wish and I really hope the speaker gets that. It made me want to wrap the whole poem in a blanket and just sit with it for a while.
I really loved this. It was gentle and honest and full of quiet hope. I can't wait to see more and stay amazing!!!!
Love Hop
thank you!:)
What a lovely poem!! I love how vulnerable this is. The poem doesn't need to expand on the main topic that is love and the desire to be loved in flowery, poetic prose for readers to know how the speaker's want for love is this deep, meaningful passion for the speaker. This often means that the simple phrasing or details in the throughout the poem has more weight to it, and are more meaningful than other contexts.
This repetitive word being "someone" as a beginning makes these lines come off as a prayer, which adds to the speaker's deep desire for love. Almost as if the speaker worships, or tend to the topic of love as though it's a deity or faith, which is very reminiscent of how society worships love. Though also, this repetition gives emphasis on their want for *someone*, which also adds to the deep passion the speaker. For them it isn't just to be loved that's the passion; it's for *someone* to love them, just as they love this person as well.
The search for love being expressed through the details of these casual, everyday places adds so much!! These have got to be one of my favorite lines of the poem. It really shows this passion has gotten to a point it becomes a fixation, which can also twist into someone seeing many people going through life as a potential partner. This search isn't as direct as partaking in dating apps, going to places or groups that are associated with finding dates and romance, or going to places or groups focused on dates or romance, but instead is the simple scenario of a chance at finding a potential date. This scenario is a pure, love story that almost seems like something so reachable, but falls back into being unreachable at once. How could something be so possible to gain, but not reachable enough to get it? Then here comes a grief that is constant and ongoing.
There's the grief in the chase and the fixation, all for the sake of a possible future... I get it, knowing how loneliness can be so consuming!
Lovely poem!! This poem is so personal while also being a reflector of how many, many people feel and treat about love. This poem doesn't question or expand or explain much, but it just exists as this pure admission of wanting love; and that what makes it meaningful!!
thank you so much for your lovely comment!
