16+ Violence

In #WompWomp

Warning: This work has been rated 16+ for violence.

My angels, my loves

The only thing that is constantly innocent

is who must surely be from above.

People think I worship you because I am odd

They think darkly of my motives when my motives are my call

To protect my children, the ones with fur

To protect the species that is clean of sin

But like the lamb that is slaughtered to purify us

Your innocence is used against you, even by those I'm supposed to love

Snow blinds my eyes, shining all the sun's light

The only relief for my eyes is the red that spots the white

But I would rather cut them out than see

one of my own, in the grass

Torn apart by vicious jaws

"He lived a good life"

A short one, no doubt

"She knew it was her time"

and she was scared, terrified of the knowledge

"He loved us"

and I loved him too, so why was he ripped away so cruelly?

Why do you try to console me with empty words,

or even worse,

ones with implications?

Ones that point out their expiration

That time for my angels is limited

That time is against us

I will fight against it too

as well as you,

who prays on their demise

You, who jokes about shooting the one you call vermin,

simply because he had a harder life?

You tell me, "they're animals,"

as if they have no soul

Well, we're animals too,

and worse than the worst of them.

Do not try to tell me that they were better off dead

Don't try to persuade me to see them as pest

They are better than we'll ever be

Especially you, who preys on the weak.

The Green Room is doing weird stuff again so I want to try something by lifting this poem out of it.

Aww I like the idea of the poem, of protecting cats/all animals bc they are “innocent”, in a sense!

Oh and this line: “Your innocence is used against you, even by those I'm supposed to love” I think works very well to condemn those humans that abuse animals. Bc we as a species are supposed to love our own but how can we if they are cruel to animals?

And this:

You, who jokes about shooting the one you call vermin,
simply because he had a harder life?
Oh this so much. Some animals do have such hard lives, with how little room we leave them ☹

Firstly I liked to say you might be interested in “don’t fuck with cat’s” on Netflix, it tells an interesting story about animal abuse.

I’m not nearly as…”in love”, for lack of better words, with cats but I can still connect to this somewhat as a pet owner. The intensification near the end is delivered very well, and every part actually covering animal abuse/mistreatment is great! Now, the part of sort of retorting to consoling statements regarding the dead cat is also quite good, properly representing how someone might feel angry at everyone who tries to help after a loved one’s death. When it comes to the opening section of the poem, it feels overly idealistic to me, comparing cats to literal angels and your kids is a reach that is inaccurate as, just like any other animal, they’re not pure at all. I also would like to specifically point out the line “But like the lamb that is slaughtered to purify us” as it insinuates that we search for cats specifically for our own personal twisted desires when the reason for adopting or buying cats more often has been exclusively love.

Final rating. GATO BUNGA

Hi! Thanks for reviewing! Firstly, I am not very pleased with the first bit of my poem either, as it's very zealous/religious, and I am an atheist, but the people who raised me, aswell as partially inspiring this were extreme Christian, so I feel like this works well, as well as how it accurately depicts how I feel. I do also believe that most animals are pure, as they have no malicious intent (except for dolphins probably). Another thing is that, atleast where I live, sure, you may go out and buy any type of animal, but for the people who take in strays, my family included, cats are going to make up most of your herd. Also, in "but like the lamb that is slaughtered to purify us", it means specifically the people who do abuse animals, especially cats. All in all, thanks for reviewing!

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.
