Title: Problems Faced by Teenagers Now a Days
Nowadays, teenagers face different kinds of problems that may be categorized as personal, social and academics. First, personal problems are those that can be something about one’s physical appearance, family status, and low self esteem. Physical appearance becomes a problem when a teenager starts feeling conscious about how he/she looks like. This can result to low self-esteem and a very poor self image. Family status also falls under this problem because family problems can affect their behavior and their coping mechanism. Another is low self- esteem that is brought about by some traumatic experiences of their childhood. Handling emotions is also a factor.
Second, social problems are the results of peer pressure, bullying and failed relationships. Peer pressure because they are worried about their social status and their reputation because they want to belong to a certain group resulting to doing something such as cutting classes, cheating, smoking, and all other kid stuff. Bullying is also one of the examples of social problem because teens whose main focus is their social standing and self-identity do this in order to be popular. For example, a teen whose entire social life has become one of victimization might feel she has nothing left to live for and she may begin to view suicide as a solution to her bullying problem. On the other hand, failed relationships may cause a teenager to lose his/her interest in studying.
Finally, academic problems are those concerning grades and other school related matters. Low or failing marks are teenagers’ problems because they may lead to more complicated problems like a problem with their parents and with their teachers as well, because for some teenagers they find a hard time on how they will manage their academic classes and extra co-curricular activities due to improper time management.
How to cope with your personal problems such as physical appearance? According to Kamil Kowalski making a list of what you needed to fix about yourself was the best way to start. The first step is to know what the problem is so that you know what to fix. Identification is the first step. Second, ask some experts or someone to help you. How to cope with family status? First, analyze the problem first. Try to analyze it not from only your point of view but from all others' points of view also. Second, find possible solutions. Then, write all possible solutions on paper and rank them. Think but not emotionally and try to get maximum positivity from it. Discuss all your thoughts with your family members. Only because no-one knows you better than your family or someone very close who knows almost everything about your family and you. Never think negatively. Never think about leaving your family. Lastly, agree with the decision in which everyone gets some kind of positive for themselves. Coping with your self- confidence is you should stop comparing yourself to other people. Don’t put yourself down. Get into the habit of thinking and saying positive things about you to yourself. Accept compliments. Use self-help books and websites to help you change your beliefs. Spend time with positive supportive people. Acknowledge your positive qualities and things you are good at. Be assertive, don’t allow people to treat you with a lack of respect. Be helpful and considerate to others. Engage in work and hobbies that you enjoy. How to deal with handling emotions, according to Margarita Tartakovsky, M.S you should get social support, and write, exercise and seek therapy.
How deal with social problems such as peer pressure. You should talk to someone regarding your situation to seek an advice. If it's lunch, money or gadgets that the school bully is after, you can help neutralize the situation by encouraging your child to pack a lunch or go to school gadget-free. Don't try to fight the battle yourself. How to cope with relationships you should accept your differences, respect for individual’s choice, skill in negotiating and share positive feelings.
How to cope with academic problems such as school grades you should talk to your teacher regarding with this problem, talk with your parents and look inward for improvement. In coping with school activities you should have a proper time management and you should know your priorities.
No matter what problem a teen ager faces, he/she must always keep in mind that there is God and a family who is always there to support and lean on.
