The Poem

by jedd
PreviousNext

IMPORTANT Note: This is (or could be) the world's most poetic poem. Poem: noun a piece of writing that partakes of the nature of both speech and song that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical.

This poem is so powerful to the point that if you interpret it right, it could cause feelings of death, end, grief and loneliness altogether. Or it could be a spark of a new beginning, a fresh start and hope. I'm not kidding if you are willing to delve into the depths of your consciousness when reading this, I bet my 200 points on it.

Get ready.

Drum-roll please.

The poem will begin after the following line.

______________

jedd,

That was great, I think you should make another one for the dots cousin!
I can't tell if the monolog is the poem or if you really just used the dot as your story to tell the great job of the period, either way I love it! By the way what does delve mean? Any way since I'm only reading a line, and then a dot I think you lose your bet of 200 points. Also By the way; if you did lose the bet can I have those 200 points? XD Just kidding. If you want a drum-roll: bd bd dbd dbd bdddd bdddd ddd dd I'm not very good at this.

Thanks for using this poem to grab my attention for a few minutes,
Hilariously me, CumputerGeek.

It looks pathetic doesn't it?

How would you define "pathetic?"

Look at that dot. A full stop. A period. Something that all sentences would not have been great without. All literature, from terrible to Shakespeare, every poem, every sentence written, every paragraph, every stanza everything you read could not have been very well readable without this dot. I'd say this little dot is unappreciated, mocked, looked down at. After all its done, after all it has contributed, in the shadows it lurks, with nobody to clap for, nobody to treasure its presence. "Hilarious!", "I hope you write something," "humorous poem," "a joke," it's been called.

What if it was somebody who sweat blood to do something for others and he gets "Haha, cool!", "I hope you did something," "humorous acts you did there," "You're a joke!" And there he was drifting at the edge of meaning something and not. It wasn't that he was created unequal or disreputable, it was as though everything he did, everything he was had to be classified as fake, a joke, hilarious. Pathetic.

I hope this relates well to people who have been mistreated by society. Those who are going over a bigger hurdle than others and have less appreciation for it. Those who should have been great shining idols but had to let someone else have the valor, hiding in shadow of doubt after. Keep going. And eventually you will be recognized and prized, just like the pale dot is recognized now. And your mark is going to be huge, larger that anyone else has ever seen. Just like how a pale dot would make so much more sense.

It goes further than that.

Worlds have been created with the assist of this dot. From Star Wars to Twilight to Lord of the Rings, this dot, almost the first thing at the start of a story and quite certainly the last, holds plentiful dimensions within. When you read, characters come alive. Everything seems real. Given a good book you could delve into it and live as a character, experience many lives simultaneously. That's the beauty of literature, with words you can create whole universes, whether logic-abiding, magic-wielding or not. What's to say our universe isn't just words off a page? It's not that far-fetched, we 3 dimensional beings are making 1 dimensional words come alive. What's not to say there are 7 dimensional beings writing a story about us? Our whole life, starting with a dot, ending with a dot.

It is quite depressing, though all good things must come to an end. Death. This dot is Death. Encompassing everything. Everything you love or hate, everyone you love or hate, has and always has been with an impending full stop. An end. It's sad, but every sentence written, whether you like it or not, whether it be so fulfilled or meaningless, whether you try your best to lengthen it, to blow it life, to make it last longer, will eventually exhaust and come to a little full stop. No afterlife, nothing, just a ceasing to exist. A bare nothingness, a hollow darkness, it all awaits us. Someday you and I will simply be erased from reality, from memory, from everything, and our legacies will be forever lost. We will have met our full stop that day, it's inevitable.

But what comes after a full stop? What comes after an end? A new beginning. Another opportunity to continue the story, another chance for a phoenix to rise again from the ashes. There is always another time, whether it'd be short or tall or another form of life altogether, there will always be another sentence. A shining ray of light after a storm. Another brighter day. A new chance to redo everything. Another chance for the legacy, your legacy, to live on in your children or grandchildren. Nothing ceases to exist with a full stop for if the sentence held means something, there will always be another sentence. Another full stop for that matter. And the cycle continues.

If our whole universe is really contained between two of these dots, I'd say it's both comforting and frightening at the same time. The Big Bang could have started with a dot, making everything we see and know of today. All contained dot within dot within dot. It's like a change of glasses, where everything we can sense could be seen with words. The coding of the Matrix, with words. The characters of your book, their whole existence and everything they know and see is made with and by words, ours could be too. Words, full stops, words, full stops, words, full stops...

And what to do at the end of time? What is left at the end of the universe? Well, it's time to reveal the sequel.

Hey, Jedd! Everybody's least favorite reviewer, Stranger, here, and I have a review for you!

So, I get what you're doing here. You're doing something "original" and posting it. It seems like it's for a humorous purpose, or to prove something, and I get that. I did that before when I was a kid who liked experimenting with humor. Considering there are two vital factors in this poem, I will review both factors. Note: I'm going to be blunt. Enjoy.

First part: the "meaning"

This is a meta piece of "poetry". The way you define poem sets up the delivery. The "." is obviously a metaphor for something, whether it be life stopping, there's nothing beautiful in this world, or you want to outthink your readers by walking the cow and setting up a so called deep idea when, in reality, it means nothing. If there's an actual meaning to this that I haven't said, delight me.

Since that's over, let me be honest. I know you're going to deny that this is a humorous poem and instead say "ITS DEEP AND POETIC AND IT MEANS SOMETHING", but I've been in your shoes before. This has wit to it, but not genuine wit. I've seen this idea done at least seven times, all in different ways. The way you set it up did nothing to separate itself from the rest. Instead, it seems like you wasted points. I can't say that, though, because this is bound to blow somebody's mind. Just not mine, and that's cool.

If I could give you a tip for the future, all the jokes you can think of doing with the Publishing Center has been done. Hell, I've rickrolled readers before. Genuine humor, something fresh and off the wall, can be hard to get control of. But trust me, you haven't been on here for a month yet you already have the basic sense of humor members who've been here for SIX have. Which isn't a bad thing, because you're aimed to do something advanced.

Keep writing, and stay groovy.

Hey!
You are hilarious, you know how to warn people and at the same time intrigue them enough to make them want to read your poem.
I hope you write one soon...

Noooo! Do you not see the little dot?

No, it was not a typo nor a trick. The meaning will be revealed 12 hours after the time of publishing. But seriously, try to comprehend the message behind this, it's not that hard to get.

The Poem.
