The skeleton girls are calling….breathing down your neck as you look in the mirror again,
& again...
& I can’t help but wonder what you see
But then again I already know, because you’ve said it before, “Don’t touch my stomach,” & “I’m so fat, look at this!”
the skeleton girls are calling, wailing, scratching
harder still....on your mirrors, in your dreams, they are desperate, lonely, ready for another to drag to their court
ghostly...
& I’m scared for you, & I’m....I’m scared.
Little girl, little beauty don’t do this to me....DON’T DO THIS TO YOU!! Every time you break yourself down it hurts me, every time you go without eating, every time you pretend, every time, every time, every time....
& I’m worried.
It’s hard, & getting harder still for me to silence myself for you. To hold myself back too afraid to make you cry....because I have before
& they are calling for you through me, through others....do you have nightmares little love, do you see what you’re becoming , do you see what I’m becoming, do you notice that I have dark circles
that I have cried more for you then I have for myself in ever
do you notice me looking at you not looking at me while not eating again
maybe not. They are waiting for you, begging for your entrance...& I have failed to save you from becoming what I know you already are!!!! Skeleton girl, dying woman, lost sister!!! I am losing you to a reflection that has distorted your image, your perception, I have lost the battle
& I never got the chance to fight! You are a dying breed, a tragic soul, you are an empty face & I can’t take it.
& maybe I can’t save you from yourself....maybe it was never my job
but please, for me, the next time you look in the mirror and clutch at what no one else see’s just breathe..........because maybe in the time it takes you to collect yourself again you’ll have forgotten that you had made a promise not to eat....
& maybe you won’t but at least it’s a chance
The skeleton girls are calling for you my love....up bright and early just for you...
they are upset, and empty, and small & maybe you’re just the one to fill their cold voids
to save them from the hell they’ve found themselves in, they whisper
a broken language only you can understand:
“PurgeWaistDon’teatGohungryJustthisonceToofatNotskinnyenoughLoseSufferDietRunWorkoutIt’sbetterthiswayPerfectThinControlHurtPAINDIECRYLIEPURGE!!!!!!!”
& you listen. Dark Queens, vain beauties, lovers of immortality!! THEY HAVE CALLED YOU! & you have answered back.
This is so real, it almost felt like you were reading it out loud. There was such a powerful voice in this piece, and really great visuals. The only thing I think you could improve on is the beginning, because at first it felt like second-person, then it switched to first-person point of view and I had to reread. It might help if you took at the "& again" in "... mirror again & again & I can't help but wonder what you see".
I hope your sister is strong enough someday to read this. It's truely beautiful.
Thank you for the wonderful review. I'm glad you liked it.
