The McBride's:Generation's Whisper Chapter 2

Author's Note: This chapter is in the point of view of alot of people. I tried my best to make it very clear when they changed. Hope you guys enjoy it

As Celeste made her way in the crowded halls to her fifth period class, she heard the high- pitched voice that was so familiar to her. Within seconds a curly haired red-head was bouncing next to her.

“Did you hear what I heard?” Scarlett asked trying to balance her books in her hands.

“Obviously not, Scar, if I had I would be as excited as you are.” Celeste replied with a smile.

“Fresh meat.” Scarlett exclaimed.

“Really?” Involuntarily Celeste eye brows shot up. “I haven’t seen anyone.”

“Well neither have I but I heard Jenny and Rebecca talking in the bathroom.”

“Which Jenny?”

“Jenny, tall, black hair, big lips...”

“Oh wow Scar you know she’s not to bright. It’s probably someone that she just hasn’t noticed.”

Scarlett laughed. “Well maybe but whatever. We’ll talk later chica.”

“O.K. later chica.” She laughed as Scarlett and she parted to their separate classes. She definitely had to stop teaching her best friend so much Spanish.

As Celeste walked into her air- conditioned Algebra 2 class she felt the air shift. Touching the necklace around her neck she took her usual seat near the front of the class. Something was off. Her necklace felt hot against her suddenly cold fingers. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up as she scanned the room. Everything looked like it had yesterday, same furniture and posters on the wall, same people.

By the end of the class Celeste couldn’t stand it anymore. She rose out of her seat just before the bell rang. She gathered her things and made her way toward the door. Outside of the class room the air still seemed as if it were infected. It bothered her to the core but right now there was nothing she would do.

Celeste walked to her locker hoping that maybe changing some of her books would help. She remembered how her grandmother had mentioned to her once that even the touch of something by someone with a bad aura could affect anything.

Just as she was rounding the corner of the basically empty hallway she felt the air shift slightly, now feeling much cleaner. Happy with the change she worked her way to her locker, knowing she was going to be late to her class.

Derek felt it. It was like the air had changed when that girl walked into the room. She hadn’t seemed to notice him but he had noticed how she seemed uneasy through out the whole class. He didn’t pay to much attention to it though. Probably happens all the time he thought.

Jonah was walking the insipid hallways when he smelt it. It was sweet and taunting. He moved closer to it. It was her, the girl at her locker. With her long brown- black hair and olive skin she seemed to stand out. But then again there weren’t much people in the halls. The bell to the last class of the day had rung not to long ago and kids were eager to get the hour over with. He watched as she changed some of her folders for brighter ones, almost strategically. Suddenly she looked around the hall and placed her hand on her necklace. With its delicate silver chain and midnight blue star pendant it seemed to give her reassurance. Jonah didn’t like it. With one last glance at the girl he made his way to his class, happy he didn’t need to pass by her.

Henrietta had just finished up in the bathroom when she felt it. It was like the entire school had a weird atmosphere around it. She definitely didn’t like it. The longer she stood in the hallway the more the air gave her a head ache. It was like the strange vibe was making the air compress into her skull. Her vision blurred for a moment. She worked her way back to her class, but she couldn’t stand the pain. Just when she was about to collapse, she felt Jonah and Derek’s presence.

“You guys help.” Her voice was barely above a whisper, but she knew Derek and Jonah’s acute ears could hear her. In a swift motion both Derek and Jonah were at Henrietta’s side holding her up.

“What wrong?” Derek’s worried voice broke through her muddled head.

“The air.” She gasped. “It hurts.”

“We got to get her out of here.” Jonah spoke quickly, letting no room for arguing.

Picking Henrietta up, Jonah and Derek made their way toward the closes exit unnoticeably. Once outside they heard Henrietta let out a sigh of relief.

“O.K, you can put me down.” She assured.

“What just happened?” Jonah asked smoothing out his shirt.

“No clue. I was in the bathroom everything was fine, but then I got out and it was like the air was... I don’t know it felt

weird.”

Derek’s eye brows shot up. “Really? It felt like it was dirty in a way right?”

Henrietta nodded. “Yea, like there was too much power in the school.”

“I felt the same way when I was in my Algebra 2 class.”

“Interesting, I haven’t felt it.” Jonah coaxed his head to the side. “Well there was this girl, she was at her locker and I was pretty far away, but I could smell her blood.”

“She had long brownish hair right? Had on a yellow blouse?”

“Yea that’s her.”

Derek nodded. “That’s the same girl from my class. Everything was fine until she walked in.”

“Yea but there was no girl in the hall way I was in. There was no one.” Henrietta looked up at her brothers. “So it isn’t her.”

“Well I don’t know what’s going on but we’ll have to talk to Mom and Dad.” Jonah paused. “I don’t think Henrietta should stay here so why don’t we call it a day?”

“Fine with me.” Henrietta agreed.

They all got into Alexander’s black Mercedes, glad to get away from that school.

Celeste was looking out the window of her last class when she saw a black Mercedes leave the school parking lot. Just as the car passed the window she caught a peek of the passengers. In the driver’s seat she saw a broad-shouldered blonde with what looked like a Nirvana t-shirt on. Next to him was a guy with brown tousled hair who caught sight of her also. She shuddered as she locked eyes with him for a brief second. He turned away and Celeste saw his lips moving, he was obviously talking to the people with him. That’s when the girl in the back seat casted her a quick glance as she rubbed her temples, her eyes filled with curiosity. Giving one last shudder Celeste turned her attention to her balding English teacher.

Using 'she' at the start of two sentences in a row sounds a bit odd somehow... Maybe you could say something along the lines of: 'She rose out of her seat just before the bell rang, then gathered her things and made her way toward the door.'
Also I noticed that you used 'yea' quite a few times. I'm not sure if you meant 'yeah'?

Lovely chapter overall, I really enjoyed it :)

Way, way back in the 1988 Presidential election, then Vice President George H W Bush had a phrase he liked to use: "A Thousand Points of Light." It refers to the idea that a community is made up of people who contribute in a thousand, different small ways, but with each helping to illuminate their community. It's a phrase I think about a lot when it comes to YWS. Looking forward, the site will continue to change and grow, but it will always remain a community dedicated to promoting creative writing as a favorite pastime.
