The holy monkey's and the demonic public official

“Get out of here you damned pests!”

Glancing up momentarily as the sound of screams pierced the peaceful air of the housing estate, passer’s-by’s could only just shake their head and speed up to avoid being caught up in the latest trouble involving the monkey’s.

It had been god knows how many years since the monkey’s had invaded the streets of the city and they had been raising hell ever since. If someone knew all the details involving the monkeys then they would known most of the people in the crowd had been caught up in the monkey’s brand of mischief. This ranged from simply stealing food to ruining housing development mostly. However, for some reason they seemed to be quite fond of nailing people with flying monkey poop.

They’d tried so many different methods of taming the monkeys, including releasing larger monkeys to just trying to catch them; but in the end all of them had failed and the monkeys were still as big a problem as ever. It was a shame that they weren’t such a holy figure in the Hindu’s eyes; otherwise they would have had them ‘culled’ years ago.

If only they knew that the Hindu’s were right about them…

Letting out a grunt as a form of welcome, the biggest and therefore the alpha monkey snarled at his approaching subordinates. “Hiss! Snarl! ek! (“Well? How’d it go?”)

“Ek ek!” (We nailed the target; it will take him days for him to clean up the mess we left.”)

The alpha, also known as Hanuman by the Hindu’s of the city, nodded in satisfaction before he faced the other group. “Ah! Erk!” (“That’s good to hear; what about you guys?”)

“Ah ah!” (Well, there’s good news and bad news; the bad news is that we got caught before we good properly mess up the thief’s house. However, on a far better note we managed to find out were that evil aura is coming from.”)

In the Hindu religion it is believed that monkeys are holy beings that have manifested into physical form; and as strange as it was they were dead right. Ever since they had come to this due to the destruction of their natural habit being they’ve been hunting down people with bad or evil aura’s and making hell for them.

A strange moment of silence stole over the usually loud group at these words. But it was not an uneasy silence; it was a joyous one. “… Ah ek.” (“Finally; it took you guys long enough, didn’t it?”)

“Ah ek ek.” (Sorry; but the city is a big place to search for just one house. Anyway, it was actually Zelda who found it on one of her trips for food.”)

Stepping up to the group, a smallish sized female monkey stepped forward. “Ek ah ek haha.” (“Where to start? Well, I was wandering around the richer area of the city and I was just walking past the eastern wall when I was hit by a physical blast of evil; yes, I said a blast. Anyway, I followed the scent to a very big house; it was no wonder since I think it belongs to the deputy may or whatever humans call them. Anyway, I explored the outside of the house and I found a window leading into this room underneath the house; it was where the smell was coming from. It was horrible! There was blood everywhere and the room was covered completely by black drapes with silver stars on them and animal bones. That wasn’t the worst part though; this guy actually had his own human sacrifice tied up by tablet as well.”)

If it was possible, a tense silence fell over the group, allowing time for a few of them to scratch their butts. “Eh ek.” (Okay, we’d better do this quickly before he gets a chance to sacrifice her; we’ll ambush him when he’s walking around outside and kill him.) Taking one look at the looks all the other monkeys were giving him, Hanuman began snarling again. “Hiss! Ah eke k!” (“I know, I don’t want to kill people but if we don’t get rid of him soon then he’s going to keep on killing people just to satisfy his demented urges. And don’t do that; it’s no wonder the human look down on us if you do things so openly like that when discussing things like this were doing things like that.”)

The monkeys that had scratched their butts looked at each other uneasily. “Eh haha.” (True, but it’s not like they can understand us…”)

Hanuman shoulders shagged before he grumpily snarled at them. “Ek ahah!” (Fine; I was just trying to add a bit of finesses to the situation, that’s all. Anyway, onwards!”)

In the eastern side of the city, a first floor terrace for a pretty big house…

On the first floor of a terrace a man can be seen reading a newspaper silently, enjoying the cool wind that was sweeping by him. Externally, all is peaceful; but the same can’t be said internally. Chuckling a menacing chuckle, he flipped to the next page of his newspaper, all the while nulling over what would happen later tonight in his mind. “Finally, after 5 years of waiting we can execute the final stage of the ritual tonight. Boy, if only the people of this city knew about what we’ve been doing all this time; about how we’ve been taking them off the street and using them in our ritual I can’t wait for tonight…”

Chuckling slightly under his breath, he was interrupted from turning to the next page by a loud squawking sound. Muttering a surprised exclamation, he turned around to locate the source and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the group of monkeys starring at him, an eerie silence hung over them.

Blinking, an extremely uneasy feeling spread throughout him when he noticed that they were all standing still and all was silent. “eheh… Sorry, but I don’t carry fruit on me usually…”

The next thing he knew the entire group was swarming over him. He tried to fight them off; but there was just to many of them. He tried to get back into the house but they began biting his legs and climbing all over him, making him lose his balance.

That’s when the worst possible thing that could happen happened; unknown to him, the biggest one had been hiding behind him all the time and he had tripped over it. That, combined with how low the rail was and he was soon plummeting over the side, hurtling towards the ground headfirst and towards the bushes outside his house.

“No… I… Was so close…” Was the last thing he muttered before pain over took his consciousness and his hand went limp, pointing directly towards the basement window that his limp body lay beside.

Nodding in grim satisfaction, Hanuman indicated for the group that their job was finished here. “ek ah ah ek!” (“Good; he won’t be hurting anyone else anymore after this. Even better is that he fell right by the basement window so their bound to look in. Anyway, let’s go; Abdullah on the fifth main street should be giving out her daily fruit rations about now…”)

A few hours later…

Starring about the Silver Star encrusted room, the mayor of city could only shake his head in disbelief at what had just accrued. “I just can’t believe what has happened today. First, my deputy gets killed by monkeys; something I only imagined could happen in a cartoon and now this. I’ve heard rumors that there was this big satanic sect in the city kidnapping people but I never would have believed that my own deputy was a member; let alone the leader of the cult.”

The head of the police could help but wince as he watched the stammering woman covered in bruises being carried out of the house. “What I can’t believe is that those monkeys actually did something good for a change; if they hadn’t killed that guy and left his body outside the room we would have never found this place. What on earth do we tell the public though?”

The mayor shook his head in frantic dismay. “No! We tell them nothing! Do you realize what this would do to my campaign if it came out?” Taking in the dirty look present on the other person face, he frantically backpedaled. “Ah! I mean, what if the other members of the cult go into hiding after this?”

The chief paused for a moment to null this thought over before he sighed loudly. “… You’re right; I’ll do anything to catch these sick bastards for what they’ve done. But what do we tell the newspaper though? The woman who found him has already gone to the papers…”

“We tell them the truth… To an extent, that is. I think my deputy was quite a big hockey player when he was younger…”

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm Knight Hardy here on a mission to ensure that all works on YWS has at least two reviews. You will probably never see this but....Imma do this anyway.

First Impression: First of all: WHAT A TITLE. Over. Anyway. It flowed pretty well. It sounds like a really interesting take on the concept of the monkeys being holy. And I love the way that you present this quite dark and horrifying story in this very light humorous way that makes it a lot more palatable than if you presented this idea in a format with something like secret agents or the police.

Anyway let's get right to it,

It had been god knows how many years since the monkey’s had invaded the streets of the city and they had been raising hell ever since. If someone knew all the details involving the monkeys then they would known most of the people in the crowd had been caught up in the monkey’s brand of mischief. This ranged from simply stealing food to ruining housing development mostly. However, for some reason they seemed to be quite fond of nailing people with flying monkey poop.

Points to the monkeys for a very inventive strategy.

Releasing larger monkeys to deal with the monkeys seems like an extraordinarily stupid plan but I do realize this is a comedy so going to gloss over that.

Letting out a grunt as a form of welcome, the biggest and therefore the alpha monkey snarled at his approaching subordinates. “Hiss! Snarl! ek! (“Well? How’d it go?”)

I love the way you use these monkey sounds and explain what they mean. It adds a nice touch of humor along with making it more realistic than monkeys that talk.

In the Hindu religion it is believed that monkeys are holy beings that have manifested into physical form; and as strange as it was they were dead right. Ever since they had come to this due to the destruction of their natural habit being they’ve been hunting down people with bad or evil aura’s and making hell for them.

All hail the mighty monkeys!!!

Stepping up to the group, a smallish sized female monkey stepped forward. “Ek ah ek haha.” (“Where to start? Well, I was wandering around the richer area of the city and I was just walking past the eastern wall when I was hit by a physical blast of evil; yes, I said a blast. There was blood everywhere and the room was covered completely by black drapes with silver stars on them and animal bones. Horrifying but nonetheless good description.

That should be could.

The next thing he knew the entire group was swarming over him. He tried to fight them off; but there was just to many of them. He tried to get back into the house but they began biting his legs and climbing all over him, making him lose his balance.

GO MONKEYS!!!

Classic mayor.

“We tell them the truth… To an extent, that is. I think my deputy was quite a big hockey player when he was younger…”

And a classic coverup. I am however wondering how they figured out that the monkeys did this. Did they leave some poop or something? Monkeyprints?

Aaaand that's it for this one.

Overall: It flowed quite well and the pacing was sound. The dialogue at the middle sounded appropriate to the situation, quite realistic. And overall this was just nicely done. A very fun story to read and as a bonus it lets you know about something that is an actual horrifying thing that happens in real life.

As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.

Stay Safe

I am not a Hindu, but I found your story very entertaining. I'm am being completely honest when I say that I almost laughed out loud while reading the second full paragraph, but checked my laugh at the precise moment. To be serious however I'm not a big fan of religious satire and therefore after the second paragraph I was deeply uninterested as it seemed that your piece had reached it's climax far too soon and the following was not very thrilling.

The monkeys that had scratched their butts looked at each other uneasily. “Eh haha.” (True, but it’s not like they can understand us…”)

See what I mean...

Sincerely,
