There's a bunch of different things that flow through my veins.
Blood.
Water.
Salt.
Emotions.
For the longest time, I couldn't understand why the fluids inside me didn't flow like everyone else's.
Everyone else seemed to be fine.
So what was so wrong about mine?
My tears came out bitter and salty.
Not soft enough to be wiped away gently.
My blood wasn't thick enough to be cherished.
But it was thick enough to stain the clothes that covered this mess of what was my skin.
My saliva wasn't sweet enough to be savoured.
But it was acidic enough that my own skin stung from my slobbering tears.
Disgusting fluids, yet they made me up.
Why couldn't I be designed imperfectly perfect?
Why did this body make me so gross?
Why was it mine?
Why was I anything at all?
I had more questions than I could answer myself,
but it was all for the sake of trying to understand what was wrong with me.
Don't cast your pity on me.
They say flaws make you unique and individual.
But when the flaws aren't beautiful, healed, or photogenic.
Suddenly, you need to be everything the world tells you to be.
I was trying to do that.
I tried to be kinder, so my tears would be sweeter.
I tried to make my heart run more so my blood could be richer.
I tried to swallow my emotions so my saliva could be worth tasting.
If I did all these things, surely I'd be like everyone else.
But I wasn't perfectly flawed.
My tears didn't fall like dripping diamonds.
My blood didn't leak like a broken sink.
My saliva didn't drip like dew on morning roses.
Such a fool, I was.
I was meant to be wrong.
Everything was wrong.
I couldn't be right.
I was a symphony of everything wrong.
The wrong fluids.
The wrong fluidity.

this is really evocative and relatable as someone who also feels like there is something inherently off about me that sets me apart from all the other normal people. a lot of human experience is imperfect and admittedly gross but a lot of it has also been romanticized to an unattainable level. i can feel the despair and desperation at not reaching that level in this, and i like the title and specific phrasing of โthe wrong fluidityโ because it encapsulates what this whole poem is about. iโm not experienced with critiquing poems at all, but this made me feel things so itโs a win in my book. good soup
(omg my first review on this site)
hi! this is really good honestly i like how it explores the topic of societal expectations (i like studying about this alot) and at the beginning,
"Everyone else seemed to be fine.
So what was so wrong about mine?" this is lowkey giving imposter syndrome (it's another topic that i find pretty worthwhile) and i like how you've portrayed feeling this certain feeling. it's a pretty intense poem, and i like how there's this parallel drawn with body fluidity and emotions.. i know thats the essence of the poem and i think it's really creative. i think this actually explains imposter syndrome so perfectly (also insecurity but im SPECIALLY emphasizing on imposter syndrome) because this poem, i think, is structured around comparing oneself to others and obsessing over the fact that one cant be like their peers so it gives off alot of imposter syndrome.. could be wrong though..?
i also like how a lot of social expectations are addressed here and it's showcasing how there's this "pretty privilege" for everything it's really something that gets me thinking a lot.
overall, i think i like this poem alot, it's pretty straightforward and brutal and that's really bold i'd say and i like it for that very reason.
