this is the first end of many
though it's the last one here
and as we learn to say a parting prayer
we must return
to the days when we could not see
the end of this road
and when we walked still as strangers
though we were not alone
not alone

we thought the road was killing us
but we turned out just fine
and we both knew we would
have to leave it all behind
one day

in the meantime there were moments
in which we'd think who'd ever think
of such a moment
but more than that there was
a sense that we belonged
right there
hand in hand

there was so much we could not see
many roads left behind
but where we did eventually choose to go
we found ourselves side by side

we never dared to dream it but
we made it hand in hand
and when we must let go
i'll still be here past the end
