Chapter 2
Room one contains subjects one and two.
In room one, the green digital time on the wall read three minutes from nine. Outside in the corridor, the lights were dim and gave off a slight blue glow that made the white walls feel dark and sinister.
Lee lay with her arms folded under her head rested on the gleaming white pillow. Everything was white, from the sheets to the floor to the roof. It was as if a blizzard of snow were in every direction. If it weren’t for the two of them, the whiteness may of blinded the camera that hung in the corner like an uninvited bat.
“So,” Dice said, his eyebrows rose up and down, “how are you feeling about tomorrow?” eagerly leaning towards Lee like a piranha watching prey.
Lee rubbed her eyelids before looking over to him. “I’m excited, of course, but it just feels so weird. The final test. The end.”
“It’s not the end Lee, there is life after this.” He paused, thinking over what he had said. “Besides, Lee, you’ll always have me by your side.”
Lee smiled, a warm fuzzy feeling washed over her, and despite the lack of sheets to snuggle under, she felt warm. “And I at yours Dice.”
The familiar female robotic voice came from a speaker in the wall, “nine pm, doors closing, please stay clear.” The white door rolled into place, and the metal wheel twisted shut. “Lights off.” The lights switched off and they were plunged into darkness.
“Sweet dreams Dice,” Lee said, shutting her eyes and sinking into the mattress.
Dice lay down, “I’ll be dreaming of you then.” She laughed.

Everything was dark. Moonlight dripped through the curtains. Outside the night was clear, cold and silent. Inside, not much was different. The girl lay on the bed, her eyes shut, her body curled under the in the warmth.
Below, a black car rolled to a stop in front of the two story house. The wheels made a grinding noise as they rolled over the bitumen. The door clicked open and two black boots hit the grass, then a second pair. They all wore black to sink in with the shadows like tar. Their presences spelt trouble, as you would predict by the look on their faces, if you could get close enough to see inside their hoods.
They had a job to do, and though it wasn’t going to be pretty, it was still inevitable that they completed their order.
With a clacking and some fiddling, they picked the lock, and the door creaked open. They crept inside, their dark glasses providing night vision.
They knew what they were there for, and nothing was going to stop them.
The two men continued up the steps and across the polished wooden floor. They pushed a door open that swung with a groan. Inside the girl didn’t stir. One man took out a white damp cloth. It let of a peculiar smell that lingered about it like a dog on a chain. They approached her like spiders, each step slow and sinister. There was only bad intention in this room.
Like a panther, one man pounced, forcing the cloth on to the teenager’s face. She whimpered, awaking from her dreams, before being plunged back into sleep.
The other man picked her and she flopped in his arms like a rag doll. Just as quietly as they arrived, they left, leaving the family behind and changing the girl’s life forever.
The street were as if it were a nightly desert, the lights letting off an eerie glow that attracted a few moths. They circled the light, unaware of the napping that had just occurred.
