good ol' fashioned rock and roll

This could go in Lyrics, but what the hell.

A little background on this piece. I was getting tired of all you young'uns choice of music, so I wrote a little ditty about rock and roll. It isn't to be taken seriously, I just meant it to be simple and funny. I'm quite satisfied with it.

By the way, I love blues, jazz, punk, (old school) rap and classic heavy-metal. But for the sake of the song, let's pretend I don't.

Honky-tonk, that's just not my style,
Got tired of jazz after a little while.
Them blues are just all just the same,
Yeah, them blues are all just the same.
Don't want none of y'all rebel country music.
Folk, Americana, no one ever use it.

I want some good ol' fashioned rock and roll
To rock and roll me all night long.

Classical is way too old for me.
Roll over Beethoven and just let me be.
'Cause I don't wanna get caught up in the punk rock scene,
Hey, ho, let's go and God save the queen.
They say hip-hop is art, don't even mention rap,
Drinking gin and tonic and catching the clap.

I want some good ol' fashioned rock and roll
To rock and roll me all night long.

I never was too sure about the classical line, but I just don't wanna say stuff. It sounds too childish.

Taking the 'and' out of the 'Hey, ho, let's go' line works. It leaves an awkward pause between 'go' and 'God'.

I don't think "and" is necessary; it just emphasizes the fact that you're crashing lyrics together .

Aww, I like the double "just"

So I guess, just rock on, man!
[hey, you're not taking it too seriously either ^_^]

Fun! Nice job with the rhyme and rhythm.

One suggestion:

"All that classical's too old for me."

This sounds a bit awkward to me, even though it works with the rhythm and everything. I think "That classical stuff's too old for me" would sound better.

Doesn't seem very poetic, but (since I love rock n' roll) I liked it. It seemed more like a freestyle for rap, which kind of defeats the purpose of the poem. I didn't notice a beat, rhyming scheme, or anything that would actually make it a poem.

But then again I'm probably in the list for the top ten worst poets on yws. So don't take my opinions to heart if you don't want to.

hahah i like it. i like the allusions you made to all their respective music genres. it kind of reminds me of american pie by don mclean.

nice work =)

Well, blues singers have a tendency of repeating 'just' in their songs, so yes there is a reason.

Well, thanks for the comments.

Lol. Yeah, very fun and catchy. Not a serious poem so I wont critique it as such. I loved all your witty little puns and this has a good tone to it. Basically, I liked it and it's nice to read something light and easy for a change.

- All right, that made me giggle. ^^

Drinking gin and tonic and catching the clap.

- ...Quoi?

All right, aside from those notes, I really enjoyed this. It's not serious poetry, as you noted, but it's clever and catchy--like rock 'n roll, non? ^~

Well done, EBM!
