Introduction

On Christmas Eve, Rina stared out the window, admiring the beauty of the stars outside, how the sky seemed to be speckled with them.

The stars had reached closer…and closer…and still, closer…

Rina got out of bed and opened her window a crack, reaching out to touch the stars…

She screamed, her hand scalding hot, skin reddening from the impact..

And hollowed when flames began to engulf her body.

Chapter One

Rina watched from her clouds as the first snow fell. The first of December, the first of snow, the beginning of Christmas.

The very day that the sky came to Earth, the very day that she died and became a “star angel”.

She sighed, lamenting her past, and fearing the future.

Why did she have to die?

Chapter Two

She didn’t wait any longer, and fell with the snowflakes, her star-lined wings flapping proudly on her back.

It only happened every December. For one month, Rina could visit her parents, could be in Earth. Only for one month, though. Those were the rules.

For one month, she wasn’t entirely alone.

Chapter Three

After a while, Rina finally hit the cold, glittering snow, glowing hands on a starry surface.

“Help…” A small voice cried out weakly.

Rina got up from the ground. The sky still had freckled stars, but none of them were bright enough to show who owned the voice.

Not even her own glow.

Nevertheless, she got up from the ground, intending to find whoever needed help.

Chapter Four

Rina walked through the snow, trying to find the person that had spoken. If she found them…then what? How would she help? What would she do? She wasn’t even alive.

Behind the bushes was a faint, pink glow. It almost looked too timid to glow, yet it did.

“Please help me…” The voice begged.

Without a moment’s hesitation, she walked towards the pink light, steadfast to help.

Chapter Five

Sitting behind the bushes was a little boy, no more than four, wearing thin, biting clothes. His barely-there clothes did nothing to protect him from the winter chill, his pink glow blinking in and out.

“Need any help? I’ll try the best I can.” Rina said.

The boy looked up and smiled weakly. He walked up to her and took her extended hand, joining Rina in her starlight.

Chapter Six

“What’s your name? I’m Rina.” Rina said. She and him had phased through the front door. Her parents would wake up soon, for the sun was rising, and it’d be time for them to wake up bright and early.

“Devon. You’re dead like me, aren’t you?” Devon asked, looking up at her expectantly.

Rina sighed deeply. Years of being dead, and still, it never got any easier.

“Yes, I’m dead. Just like you.” Rina said, trying to push the sorrow away from her voice. The last thing she wanted was for the kid to be afraid of her.

He nodded understandingly, a silent agreement shared between them.

Chapter Seven

“It hurts to be dead, I know. But we’ll meet my parents, and then I’ll help you find yours. Everything is going to be okay.” Rina said with a smile.

How she could still smile remained a mystery to her, but maybe it was because she wanted something to be happy about.

She turned open the knob of her parents’ bedroom door, for soon, her house would be full of life.

Chapter Eight

In a bed, her mother and father slept. Rina walked closer to the bed, holding Devon’s hand as she did so. All she had to do was tap them and they’d all be back together again.

“How is it so…how are you here?” An echoing, distant voice asked.

Rina and Devon turned sharply around.

For right behind them was a glowing, glimmering green orb, that twisted and grew into a figure…a being…

A man whose black hair framed a sallow face.

Chapter Nine

“I sent you to my realm, you should not be in Earth.” The man said.

He reached out towards Rina and Devon with elongated, clawed fingers, but they backed away, Rina holding onto Devon for protection.

Her parents were beginning to stir, they couldn’t wake with the man-thing in their house.

“Who are you?! What do you want?!” Rina asked. The last thing she needed was a potential demon to corrupt what it saw, its great hunger overpowering all other emotions.

The man cocked his head, wide green eyes glowing vividly.

“I am your maker, Varon.” The man said in an itching, spider-legs tone.

Chapter Ten

“Who are these people?! Rina, what’s going on?!” Mom asked, for she and Dad had just woken up.

Rina looked from her parents to Varon, who waited with a jagged smile.

“I-I’m not sure!” Rina stammered.

She only ever saw the stars, she never saw Varon herself.

Devon, a boy she had only just met, cowered behind her, glancing not at the grinning Varon.

With a clap of Varon’s hands, there was a blast of emerald light that engulfed them all.

Chapter Eleven

“I began as a human child, just like the both of you.” Varon’s voice said.

Through the vision of green, a little boy sat amongst a field of wildflowers, picking gleefully the plants.

“Little did I know that the ground I sat upon was cursed, haunted by demons.”

From below, bright yellow dandelions grew from the dirt and wrapped around the boy, who screamed and writhed from the impact.

Rina and Devon watched as the child was taken to doom, taken to pain.

Taken far, far away.

Chapter Twelve

“I know of one little girl who still lies deep in the dirt. Her name is Naenia, and she still claws her way to freedom. But freedom is for her to find.” Varon said.

If only for a moment, Rina saw a hint of humanity in his eyes, but as quickly as it came, it was blinked away.

“Perhaps she is luckier than me, for look at what I have become at the cost of freedom.” Varon said.

His claws reached to his feet, long, thin sticks, and his teeth were pointed and jagged, the kind to break through layers of flesh. His wide verde eyes seemed to get wider as he cocked his head.

A true demon, once human, become creature.

Could that be Rina and Devon, some time soon?

Chapter Thirteen

FLASHBACK

Rina looked all around her, eyes wide with fear. One moment, she was in her room, and the next, she was burning away, screams cut short by flames.

She wasn’t in any place that should be possible to exist. In fact, it appeared that she was in a starry sky, constellations stretching to infinity.

“Rest now, my child. You are a star angel. You don’t need to worry about the dandelion, you’re safe here.” A man’s voice said.

Safe where? Where, exactly, was she? What dandelion? What was the man talking about? Was it all a dream?

“You’ll come to accept your fate later on, but for now, it will take some time.” The man said.

Rina tried blinking her eyes, but no, nothing changed.

Nothing at all.

Chapter Fourteen

Rina felt the world pulling beneath her, pulling her down, deep into the Earth, far from the sky.

“Let her go! She’s not yours, she doesn’t belong to anyone! Leave her be!” Mom cried out.

But why would Varon listen? They were amongst the stars, and her parents were mere mortals.

Devon wasn’t even in her grasp anymore. The stars were pulling her down, and what good would fighting back do?

Chapter Fifteen

“Devon too touched the stars, just like you did long ago. I have taken him, and that is how he came to sky. You must live with that.” Varon said.

Why did she have to? Why did she have to listen to him? Just because Varon was taken didn’t mean that Rina had to listen to a word he said.

Rina stopped, for no, she would not let the dirt take her.

Chapter Sixteen

Rina rose from the ground, towards the sky that had taken her years ago. The sun was starting to come up, painting the infinite sky with splashes of dimmed pink, sea blue mixed in. White flecks of cloud sprinkled through the cracks of the sky, but still, faint stars shone through.

Her parents couldn’t be up there for long, or else Varon would take them too. Devon, he had to see his family again, before the dawn came.

And Varon had to go, he couldn’t trap them any longer.

Rina rose, determination ingrained in her soul.

Chapter Seventeen

Images flashed in her mind, memories that did not belong to her.

Devon holding onto the hands of a man and woman, presumably his parents.

The sky coming closer, Devon reaching out towards the stars.

His parents trying to stop him.

Devon screaming and crying, deep in flames.

Just like that, Varon had taken him, just as he had taken her.

Without a speck of remorse, he dragged them both to the sky, to the place that captured them both after they died.

Chapter Eighteen

Once in the sky, Rina reached out to Devon, hand extended in a gesture of help.

“Take my hand before he comes!” Rina cried out.

Without a second thought, Devon took Rina’s hand as stars collided with them.

Chapter Nineteen

Screams rang in all of their ears, screams of a young Varon, being dragged to the dirt and changed forever.

Rina’s poor parents, dragged into a world that wasn’t theirs. How would they feel?

Would they even live?

Chapter Twenty

At last, Rina and Devon reached the Earth, to her backyard. Her parents joined them both, their eyes disoriented, adjusting to their surroundings.

“What happened? Where were we?” Mom asked.

“You were in the place me and Devon are for most of our afterlives.” Rina said.

“You’re going to be okay? You’re going to be alright?” Dad asked.

Her parents looked down at her, as though they wanted to hold her tight and never let go.

“Of course. I’m dead, nothing can hurt me.” Rina said.

And with that, she went off with Devon, so that he too may see his parents.

Epilogue

Devon was able to see his parents again before the sun had come, and he had to go to the sky.

No longer was he freezing cold, but filled with the warmth of love, as was Rina.

Both star angels that lit the sky, no longer bound by Varon, making sure that the light will not make others die.

For the worst of fates is to have the stars burn someone away. Stars are hope, stars are inspiration.

Rina and Devon are star angels. They bring love and light.

Hello, My Friend!

Hiya, Creeper! I'm back and ready for another Creepmas story! Given the kinda in-between length, I'll be using a condensed version of the Familiar Method for this one!

What The Black Eyes See
~ A full analysis and breakdown

Alright, this was such a cute concept! I imagine this making a very artistic illustrated book, for like a slightly older kid—it just has a unique aesthetic like that. I think the artistry of this one did come with a little downside in that, I was having a little trouble following some of the concept, and the transition between the Earth, the Sky, and Dirt, but that could also just be me misreading things, so I mean just take that as you will lol. Let's get into the details!

Where The Dagger Points
~ Some nitpicks and little recommendations

As far as typos and the like go, I didn't catch any, so good job!

Why The Grin Widened
~ My reactions, theories, and favorite parts

Ooo, let's look at some highlights now!

The stars had reached closer…and closer…and still, closer…

Rina got out of bed and opened her window a crack, reaching out to touch the stars…

She screamed, her hand scalding hot, skin reddening from the impact..

And hollowed when flames began to engulf her body.

Right off the bat, this is such a unique and absolutely captivating idea, and imagining it was so cool. Great way to hook us!

She didn’t wait any longer, and fell with the snowflakes, her star-lined wings flapping proudly on her back.

After a while, Rina finally hit the cold, glittering snow, glowing hands on a starry surface.

The imagery being described here sounds just SO beautiful...

How she could still smile remained a mystery to her, but maybe it was because she wanted something to be happy about.

Aw, poor Rina...

His claws reached to his feet, long, thin sticks, and his teeth were pointed and jagged, the kind to break through layers of flesh. His wide verde eyes seemed to get wider as he cocked his head.

WOAH!! Varon's design sounds wicked O.o

And Varon had to go, he couldn’t trap them any longer.

Rina rose, determination ingrained in her soul.

Woohoo, go Rina!!

Both star angels that lit the sky, no longer bound by Varon, making sure that the light will not make others die.

For the worst of fates is to have the stars burn someone away. Stars are hope, stars are inspiration.

Rina and Devon are star angels. They bring love and light.

What a lovely ending!! The symbolism of stars are so powerful and multi-faceted, it says so much in and of itself about these adorable little star angels, and that really comes through here. It almost makes you wonder if and how at least some of this could be an allegory for something. I mean I'm not smart enough to figure out what that allegory would be, it's just the vibe XD

Our Mad Thoughts...

Overall, that was a lovely Christmas story!! Nicely done! :D

Thus concludes my review. To leave off, here are some inspiring quotes, courtesy of your resident Poe freak ~

"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
"Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
"I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty."

So the incredibly short chapters are pretty of putting at first, and I feel it could have been formatted better. Also, her literally reaching out to touch a start and getting put on fire because of it is…strange, and doesn’t get elaborated on much. Now, more importantly, what are these star angels? Who gives them these rules that they can only come to earth in December, “those were the rules” is a terrible way to explain this and leaves me questioning, in a bad way, what exactly is happening. Now, onto the positives, I like the dialogue quite a bit, it’s simple and seems real if this strange situation were to happen also, I like the “vibe” this has of stars, death, and Christmas so that’s quite nice.
Final rating HOHOHUNGA OOHGA

Because stars are made out of this burning gas irl, that%u2019s why.

Thx for reading!
