“Happy birthday, Absinthe. You can now go to the doll emporium by yourself.” Mother said, placing a few coins in Absinthe’s open palm.
All of Absinthe’s presents had consisted of new dresses and a few dolls, but the fact that mother was letting her buy her own dolls…was it too good to be true?
“I can buy my own dolls? You allow me to? But isn’t it too dangerous?” Absinthe asked.
For she had heard her parents warn her about “staying out too late, or else the “vagabonds would snatch her up”?
“You’re eleven years old now. You’re close to that adolescent age. You should be able to go out shopping by yourself. Besides, it’s not dangerous. Have you seen how peaceful our little town is? We just say that so you can have it in mind.” Father said from his seat on the couch.
Well, Absinthe did see that not much happened in their town, but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t possible for anything bad to happen.
Still, she tucked the coins in a pocket sewn on her dress and hugged mother, then she went over to the couch to hug father.
Because as much as her doubt was creeping in about what may happen, her excitement over buying her own doll was far greater.
She was going to buy her own birthday gift! She was going to go outside and buy something, just like the adults did!
Absinthe grinned at how the coins jingled in her pocket as she opened the front door, welcoming the infiniteness of the December snow that led her all the way to the doll emporium that brought many memories of joy and fun…

Firstly, Absinthe is such a cool name. Now to a proper review lol.
Very cute! I got the impression that Absinthe was pretty young so it’s cool to see I was correct. Also, I like that her parents tell her the town is dangerous so that she can be wary and cautious! It’s very good that she understands that something bad can still happen even though not much happens. I hope Absinthe can get herself a perfect little doll!
Well so far I am not hating the position that Absinthe and Castiel are in. At least they are vampires that only eat animals. So let’s read more of their story. For Violet Victory!

Hmmmmm so Absinthe is told by her family that the town is peaceful and safe, meanwhile Castiel’s father can casually joke about vampires and they routinely gather mobs to hunt them. Something is not right here.
I do like her excitement at being able to buy her own gift tho 😊
Still feel like there is not much else to the story and that it would be better as a collection with a little more plot to it.
