The lights go out, an engine roars
The cars go flying, sparking floors
“Simply Lovely”, a Dutchman’s call
Speeding faster past them all
And yet, it is but a brutal year
He has no wins, still no fear

One day soon, he’ll stand high
Hands go up, brush the sky
Cheers from teams all around
An anthem proud, an echoed sound
‘One day soon’, we all say
Maybe after his birthday?

For way back in seventeen
A birthday win was Sepang's scene
This next race, it's one to know
Back to history once shown
So let’s get ready, on go screens
Back to the Bulls, see what victory means

For some context: Today (as of posting), the 30th of September is Max Verstappen's birthday.

In 2017, he won the Malasyian Grand Prix the day after his birthday.

While the track is now off of the calendar, they are racing there this week due to not being able to race in Bahrain.

Max has not had any wins this season, but continues to podium on a lot of the races.

Hey, calix! I personally enjoyed this composition, as the racing theme is undeniably clear from the start. The short lines and rapid rhymes gave the poem a swift, almost racing pace.

The lights go out, an engine roars
The cars go flying, sparking floors

Such an energetic beginning is great, as it instantly puts the reader in the chase. This theme continues in the rapid succession of lines, which gives the piece its energetic edge.

I think most people who read this poem would agree the repeated mention of one day soon was an excellent touch. It gave the piece a certain hope, as if all the characters would just come together and, together, create history.

One day soon, he’ll stand high
Hands go up, brush the sky

I personally loved the connection between the last lines and the birthday race in 2017, as they almost acted as a prediction for the future. Knowing what happened, the reader is almost expecting history to repeat itself.

I cannot say much negative about this piece. It is a short composition, and while there are a couple of lines I would personally rework for style, it retains a certain roughness that gives it power. Not only that, but the racing pace in which it is written keeps the readers hooked throughout.

Overall, I had fun reading this little piece. In fact, I would not say I have much of a critic to make here. I am not well versed in either the F1 Racing community nor its history. But I could understand and feel the excitement from the author, and I think that is the most important thing for this kind of work.

Lovely work!<3

I really enjoyed the energy in this poem! The short lines and rhymes make it feel fast-paced, which fits the racing theme perfectly. I especially liked the repeated “one day soon” because it gives the poem a hopeful feeling and makes you want to see that victory happen. The references to the past and the birthday race also make the ending feel like something exciting is about to happen. A fun and enthusiastic piece!
