I promise that I care,
or wait no I don’t care that much.
I tell myself I don’t want it,
but I’ve always craved somebody’s touch.
…
the biggest flaw about me
is my physical appearance.
I want a lot of things,
and wish I had more clearance.
I want perfect legs.
I want a smaller waist.
I want a deeper voice
and I want a prettier face.
I want a lot of things,
so I guess that I’m just greedy.
square shoulders.
bigger lips.
longer eyelashes.
wider hips.
I want all of these things and more.
and yes, I want to be adored.
…
the biggest flaw about me
is my personality.
the way I laugh,
my biggest fears,
my unoriginality.
I want to talk less.
I don’t want to be annoying.
and yes I want to fall in love,
but I’m constantly deploying.
…
her hands are on my legs,
and my legs are around her waist.
her fingers can’t hold still,
and my heart began to race.
I love the way that her eyes move.
they shift left and right between mine.
my vision turns to the clock,
as I analyze the time.
I know I shouldn’t want it,
but I can’t help but feel greedy.
and I want to reciprocate her touch,
but I don’t want to seem needy.
…
the biggest flaw about me
is the feeling that I get of greed.
i’d never ever be satisfied,
even if I try to bleed.
I want a perfect body,
and I want to fall in love.
I want a personality.
I guess everybody does.
What I want will never be achieved,
so I guess I’ll just live with the greed.
Ill always want more,
and my wants will always change.
So the next time that I want something,
I’ll rinse it out and let it drain.

I really loved reading this! The honesty in this poem is what stood out to me the most. I really liked how you explored different kinds of “greed,” not just wanting physical things, but also wanting to change your personality, wanting love, affection, and ultimately wanting to feel satisfied with yourself. The repeated “I want” makes the poem feel almost like a stream of thoughts, and as it continues, you can really feel how overwhelming those wants become. I also loved how the poem moves through different sections while still keeping the same central feeling. The part about wanting to reciprocate someone’s touch but not wanting to seem needy felt especially vulnerable and real. And the ending is beautiful because instead of suddenly solving everything, it accepts that our wants keep changing and tries to let them go. The final image of rinsing the want out and letting it drain is really memorable. This poem made me think about how easy it is to keep finding something else to dislike or desire, even when we already have so much. I genuinely loved this one—it was so honest and emotionally powerful.

Hey! I appreciate how "Greedy" manages to take a word that typically has a negative connotation and make it so much more multidimensional. I think that this poem is actually about the endless feeling of what you are isn't enough. This is shown through the progression of the poem.

The format of "the biggest flaw about me" and how the solution keeps changing is very effective.

the biggest flaw about me

is my physical appearance.

Then it changes to
the biggest flaw about me

is my personality.

And finally changing to
the biggest flaw about me

is the feeling that I get of greed.

This progression is my favorite part of the poem. It starts off with the speaker thinking that what they're dissatisfied with is their physical appearance, then their personality, and finally the feeling that what they want isn't enough. It effectively shows the idea of the poem without the need of a complicated structure.

I also like the lists of the speaker's wants. The way they are structured as very short sentences almost like the speaker is throwing these things out one after another. This goes along with the theme of the poem as wanting one thing and then moving onto the next. It is a very effective way to show how simple it is for the speaker to slip from one want to the next.

The section on affection is also a part of the poem that I like a lot. It is a very fitting example since the speaker both wants affection and questions if they truly want it. This makes the theme of the poem bleed out into the rest of the poem and make "greedy" seem less like a word that applies to material things and more like a word that applies to experience and affection and even a different version of yourself.

The conclusion to the poem is very fitting as well.

What I want will never be achieved,

so I guess I'll just live with the greed.

I like how well it concludes the poem while still reiterating the point that wants are always changing. Even if one were to disappear another would likely take its place.

The final imagery of rinsing the want down the drain is also a very memorable way to end the poem. It gives a sense of purging, removing these endless wants that we all get.

I think that "greedy" works as a poem because under all of its simplicity it deals with a very complex theme. The theme of never having what you want being enough.

Lovely work! <3

hi!
I really loved your poem and the concept of it was very beautiful
I liked the way you would repeat "my biggest flaw about me" but it would change every time, like you couldn't decide.
when the poem shifted towards being in love and wanting love to be loved. how the writer felt too needy, like they wanted to much, was super powerful and was personally my favorite part, it was really deep and I really enjoyed reading this and I can't wait to read your next one
