hi brisingr521! welcome to yws!

you've already gotten a great review from mint, so i can't add much to the conversation with what she mentioned.

however, i do have a few things i am curious about. the first being, what do you intend to do with this? the title is list of gods to use, it's tagged as humour, and it's definitely leaning into a satirical list rather than a genuine resource. so what do you wish to accomplish from this list? i'm going to give feedback with the perspective you want to expand beyond what you have, but i honestly can't tell if you want this to remain humour or if you want to flesh these gods out.

Trileth, Threefold Goddess of Good Habits, Bad Habits, and The Habit of Saying “Glockenspiel!” Whenever Attacked By An Autistic Bloodhound

i'm choosing to view this as "worldbuilding," so it makes me ask why is trileth given three domains when the others only have one? probably a play on her name being TRIleth, but it could be something to consider.

also, i feel like a common theme here is these gods' domains being hyperspecific. that totally happens! but you have to consider if their domain being specific actually complements the lore you're building. you can have a god for saying glockenspiel, but does that have any correlation to the world itself? i understand if the world doesn't exist/isn't fleshed out yet, but specificity comes with a cost.

Darfen, God of That Gene That Causes Midgets

i agree with what mint said here, but another thing to be considered is what i mentioned above. this is a good example of my point. darfen being the god of a singular gene itself can't benefit any story you could write, unless you're writing a story about dwarfism. i assume not. could darfen be reframed as the god of illness or bad health luck? it is less offensive and more open.

same with "Maehaucklis, Goddess of The Hobo Named Jeff" because it raises more questions than it answers. who is jeff? is jeff important to these gods, or is he just some guy used for comic relief? hmm.

Poe, God of Mild Obesity

i don't have any commentary for this in particular, but it brings me into another point: some of these gods are so "random" that they sacrifice the humour of it to be quirky. because that happens, that is why a lot of these gods lean into satirical stereotypes of people ("midgets," "hobo," "mild obesity," etc) or things that have no effect on genuine narration ("half-interesting twigs," "angry trees," etc.). if you wish to build on these, consider who they are, not what they represent.

i do think a lot of these have great potential though! i would love to see things like this in the writers corner, or even used in your own stories!

best,
floodlights

ok, ngl, this whole post was a joke so yeah

Hiya brisingr, hope you're doing well! Some of these deities gave me a good laugh, like "Quailar, God of Angry Trees" and "Hithlar, Goddess of The Name Hithlar" :D It is pretty difficult to review a short list like this, though, so I suggest posting things like this in a forum like The Lounge or Writers Corner instead. You could even make it a game in Randomosity-- invent your own minor deity. xD Literary works are meant to be items you want feedback on in order to improve your writing, while forum posts are more casual. If you did want critiques on your deities, perhaps you could add more detail, like myths associated with them? ^^

Anyways, since this is a review, I'll do my best to offer some feedback!

Helusium, God of Improper Pronunciation

While it is indeed unclear how "Helusium" is pronounced, I think it'd be even funnier if you mentioned the proper pronunciation and it was wildly different from any pronunciation someone might assume. For example, "Hai lyough shay" with the "m" being silent. =P

Zaebeduliathurtropolismaticithianos, God of Unreasonably Long Names
U, God of Perfectly Reasonable Short Names

I appreciated the juxtaposition of these two, haha. XD

Darfen, God of That Gene That Causes Midgets

I think "midget" might be an offensive term-- maybe try something more neutral/medical like Dwarfism? Same with "hobo". I get that you're trying to be funny, and I'm also not the most sensitive/aware sometimes, but I think jokes can be hilarious without targeting specific groups ^^

Tecet, God of Half-Interesting Twigs

Just "Twigs" would be amusing, but the "Half-Interesting" really does it. Great job putting an excessive amount of detail to amp up the humor XD

Overall, while this was interesting, I think it'd be a better fit for the forums or a People Tab post. But I would totally review a story featuring these deities! Hope you have a wonderful day/night =D

thanks! I appreciate the feedback
