In Grant - A Novel

PreviousNext

He had been gone for 216 hours, 30 minutes and 18 seconds. Although we had known each other for a very short time, I found something in him that I needed in my heart. After he left, we weren't able to talk until his plane landed in Minnesota. It was only a few hours but it seemed like eternity to me until he sent me a short e-mail. He mentioned how the weather felt so different there now that he was back. He signed it, "Xoxo, Andrew".

I emailed him what seemed to be a novel, describing how much I missed him since he left and I told him that I was able to go down to the school and see who would be in my class that year and who my teacher would be. I signed it, "Love, Kaity".

I sat in my uncomfortable chair for hours, waiting for a response. The only few times that I left were to grab something to eat and even then, I came right back and ate in front of my flashing computer screen. And finally, when his name popped up on the screen my heart skipped a beat. Desperate for his attention, I messaged him.

LionsGoRawrr2012: hey :)

AndrewFredrichs: Hi, babe.

Inside, I was melting. Outside, I was grinning from ear to ear. I never got tired of hearing him call me babe.

LionsGoRawrr2012: how was your trip home?

AndrewFredrichs: it was OK. when i got home, my next door neighbor wanted to hang out.

LionsGoRawrr2012: awesome!

Our conversation continued for about two hours before I had to go to bed. We talked about everything under the sun like his family back home and his friends. I introduced him to my online friends and told him how I was worried about the first day of school that was quickly approaching and to my joy, he eased my nerves quickly.

It wasn't until a few days later that I would meet the love of my life and it wasn't until a few months later that I would realize how hard the word ‘love’ can really hit you.

It wasn't until 3 years after that when I realized that nothing would ever be the same.

(Author note: The lack of capitalization in the conversation is for chat speak purposes.)

Hey,

This is a enjoyable story so far. I love your use of punctuation and the fact that you acknowledged the lack of capitalization in the Author's note. The feeling of mystery and suspense around this piece is being built very well. It's impressive honestly, a surprising amount of people struggle with that. I'm certainly very curious and cant wait to read more of the story. But please, take your time. I would hate to have to read a badly written long piece verses a well written short one. Best of luck with the rest of the story, keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Collideascope.

Hey, Nikki here to review 
Okay, so I read you first part as well and I have to say I really liked them both. I love that you have hinted about what is going to happen later in the story without saying outright what it is. I love mysteries.
Well keep up the good work and please post more soon (I’m dying to know what happens).

You are making me curious.
Curiosity killed the cat you know.

"In my contact with people I find that, as a rule, it is only the little, narrow people who live for themselves, who never read good books, who do not travel, who never open up their souls in a way to permit them to come into contact with other souls -- with the great outside world."
