Ignorance is bliss.

Sometimes the truth hurts deeply.
Being happy is never guaranteed but we can always hope.
They say the truth will set you free but that isn’t always the case.
Being ignorant to reality will only work for a while
Until you realize that life isn’t all fun and games.

Yes, it’s true.
Ignorance is bliss.
The happiest people don’t truly
Know what’s going on around them.
Now, would you rather know the truth and
Be miserable or not know and be happy?

Alright, so I have some bones to pick with the poem. First off, it is all telling. I want an example of when ignorance is bliss because I really don't feel like it is. I feel like what you don't know can hurt you worse than if you know it and can prepare for it, so instead of telling me things I disagree with, show me how ignorance would have been better in a situation. I want you to pick a person who doesn't see what's going on around them, and write this poem from their standpoint.

The poem itself doesn't even see the truth in some ways. Your last line in the first stanza contradicts that ignorance is bliss, so the second stanza is ignorant of what the first said. You can realize that life isn't all fun and games, and still be ignorant. These people typically present with paranoia. Paranoia is not fun. Paranoia is not happy. Paranoia is a lack of the truth that things are not as bad as they seem, and that you're not important enough to create these massive conspiracy theories.

Improving the poem for me, would mean creating just one instance where ignorance is bliss, and stop attempting to show that it's true through blatant sentences. Show it through examples.

Hello there Yohana55! It is the Yubster coming around to review this poem, "Ignorance is bliss" for you today... I’m going to do some simple nit picks right away, but they will be painless ones, so no stitches or painkillers will be needed in this review. I don’t usually review poems, so feel free to shoot me if I mess up!

Let's start at the top and work our way down! The title! The title is what originally caught my attention. I don't like titles that are really long, so this short title in the midst of hordes of longer ones grabbed my eyes and made me want to read your poem. But, I have one problem with it. There is a grammatical error in the title its self. The rules for titles are as following: First, last, and all important words in the middle need to be capitalized.

This poem has a good flow, but I think that in some places it would sound even better if you changed the flow just a little. It’s nothing major, just a word here and there that could be tweaked just a teensy bit to make the poem flow even better than it already does. I just think that this will make your peom so much better than it already is!

You did a great job portraying how ignorance is sometimes better than knowing the truth. But maybe, if you were to add to this poem (which you most definitely should do!), you could add a stanza or two that talks about how sometimes you need to live your life painfully knowing the truth or not being completely ignorant of things. This would add a lot of character to this poem, not to mention a more well-rounded view of the real world inside this poem, “Ignorance is bliss.”

I adore the way you can twist an ordinary phrase into something new and fresh in poetry. If you ever do extend on the poem or edit in some things, please, contact me because I’ll want to see the finished copy, after you are done with it. PM me a link or post it on my wall. I can’t wait to read more of what you’ve done. Hope to see you around the site very soon. Good luck and keep up the fabulous and totally splendiferous (is that even a real word? Because I’m not sure…) writing. Keep in touch and good luck!
This is the Yubster, signing off for now, hope to see you again soon!
Happy Review Day!

Wow, true true true. I really loved it, especially, "The happiest people don't truly know what's going on around them.". That got me stumped and to tell you the truth, am happy because i really didn't know or care about what was around me...i was kinda ignorant. I started reading this poem because i just wanted to get some reviews in but to tell the truth, i kinda fell for it.

Great poem Yohana; your words are very true. Many people prefer to act ignorant because they fear they can't handle the truth. I liked how you ended with a question, it kind of keeps you thinking about what's more valuable, truth or happiness. Nice job and keep writing. Hurtado
