Chapter 3
Could I trust him? Would Christopher really help me kill his own brother? What was the word of a vampire worth?
But I wanted to trust him. I wanted it more than I ever wanted anything else. I knew something must have been wrong with me, but it was true.
We were walking through the trees back to the safety of my village. I said I would be fine on my own but his insisted on coming along. Just in case.
Just in case what? Maybe that I wasn’t really all that grateful and would wait for him to turn around and attack him? Maybe…
We walked close to each other so every once in a while our arms would brush and I thought I saw him smile, but in a blink of an eye he had a straight face again. Maybe it was just my imagination.
As the houses one by one came into view Christopher began to slow until we were at a stop at the very edge of the woods and the town. We were in the wolf boarders. It was dangerous for him now.
"Is something wrong?" I asked gently putting my hand on his arm out of habit then quickly pulling it away after realizing what I had just done.
"Is it safe for me to enter or should I leave you here?"
"It's safe as long as you are with me, but you don't have to come if you don't want to," I whispered taking a step forward.
"Lead the way, if you don't mind."
I nodded. "This way." What the hell am I doing?!
I lead the way to the center of the village where a large white house stood. My house.
What was I thinking? Now I had just showed him where I lived. He could murder me in my sleep!
I walked past the front door to the side where a rope was hanging out an open window. Christopher gave me a look and then looked back at the window.
"I have an easier way to get back in. That is, if you would allow me," he said extending his hand out toward me.
"Can I trust you?"
"Yes." No..., I thought. Rule one: never ever trust a vampire.
I gently placed my hand in his and gripped it tightly. I was surprised by just how cool his skin was. He told me to shut my eyes as he wrapped his other arm tightly around me, and within a matter of seconds my feet lifted off the ground then hit wooden floor boards. For the briefest moment I’d felt the rush of wind through my hair. My eyes fluttered open. How'd he do that? Did he jump?
"Thanks, Christopher." I whispered as he released me from his hold.
"It was my pleasure, and you can call me Chris."
"Alright, Chris. When will you come back?"
"As soon as I can. It will take a while for me to come up with a plan." He gave a kind of sexy devilish grin and leaned into me so his lips were next to my ear. "But maybe I could drop by tomorrow if you would like." He brought the hand I was still holding to his lips and gently kissed the top of mine, like they did in old timely films. "Watch out, someone's coming."
He dropped my hand and jumped out the window just as Alex came barging into my room. He always came at the worst possible moments. I swear I need to get a lock on that door.
"Ew, what is that smell? If that is perfume it is too sweet, Sam. And I suggest you consult someone before using anymore of it. Geez, what is that? ‘Ode de vampire’?"
"Ha-ha, funny. What do you want, Alex?"
"Gee thanks, I love you too," he said sarcastically. "Where were you? You should have been back hours ago. Do you know it is after five a.m.? Hunter was pissed to find you gone and I held him off for as long as I could."
"There was more than one and I had a little accident but I’m fine. And Hunter should just mind his own business. Like I would stop for him. That reminds me, why are you in my house?"
"I was trying to keep Hunter busy and then I came to warn you he was on his way over. Have fun because this is the last time I do you any favors. Really what is that smell? It reeks. And what accident?"
"Sorry, it has been a long night. I’ll explain later, and thanks for the heads up. Now out, so I can pretend to be asleep before he gets up here."
"Night, Sammy." He kissed the top of my head and left the room just as I slipped under my blanket.
Though my eyes were shut I heard Hunter enter my room maybe ten minutes later. He sat on the side of the twin bed and sighed. His hand gently brushed the hair from my face before he bent down and also kissed the top of my head before getting up and the faint clicking of a closing door.
I waited a few minutes before throwing the thick comforter off so Hunter had some time to get away from the room. I was too tired to really care just how bad I looked so I put on a clean shirt and pajama pants. Then I nearly tripped over a mass in the floor and I realized it was the blanket Chris had put over me in the woods.
I smiled and hugged it to me while I lay on my bed and slipped into my dreams of piercing sky blue eyes. My hand was still tingling where he kissed me and I knew I had to be crazy. The blanket reeked as Alex said, and yet I didn’t mind, I actually…kind of liked it. What the hell was wrong with me tonight? None of this was like me.

Chris did not return the following night, or the night after that, or even the night after that. In fact it was about a week until he came back and in all that time I never went on a hunt even once. Both Hunter and Alex thought they had won and had talked me out of this 'foolishness' as they put it. They hadn't though. I was too worried Christopher would show up when I was out to leave. And he was a vampire for crying out loud! What was going on with me?
It was a cold cloudy Saturday night when I opened my room door to find him leaning against the window sill. I knew my face lit up when I saw him there but his expression matched the weather outside.
I looked at him and began walking to him when he raised a hand, singling for me to stop. His face looked neutral but his eyes seemed to tell a tale of sorrow. Something was wrong.
"Chris?" I asked kind of shyly. I did not know a lot about vampires, other than how to kill them, and I was a tad bit frightened. He looked so different from last time I saw him. Perhaps he had reconsidered.
He blinked and raised an eyebrow in question but remained quiet. I knew I did not know him well but I could tell this was not like him. How I knew, I didn’t know, but I just knew. I just knew somehow that something was bothering him.
"I thought you would have been back sooner." I said nonchalantly.
I remembered that look he gave me that night. That devilish glint in his eyes when he said he would be back the next day. Where had it gone?
"Eager to get this over with, Samantha?" He asked coldly while folding his arms across his chest.
No, I thought. I think I was eager to see you.
"Oh, is that so?" He sneered.
"What? I didn't say anything," I said still acting as if it made little difference to me, even though it sent a tiny stab of pain through my chest.
"You don't have to, I'm a vampire."
"What did you mean by that?”
“One of the many talents of being a vampire is that I can read your thoughts. It’s especially easy in such close proximity. How have you managed to go this long without figuring that one out?”
Now I had to watch what I was thinking when I was around him. Great! “Then tell me why you seem so aloof all the sudden?”
"Nothing is wrong. In fact I think things are going quiet well, princess. Damien has decided he may have some use for me after all. Within a month I think I could get you to him, but I will not kill my brother nor will I get between you two. Once you are in, I'm out. You will be on your own, got it?"
"Yeah, okay," I whispered.
I was stunned. Why was he acting like that? Last week he was so nice and flirty but now he was just cold and cruel. He was exactly my stereotype of vampires, just when I thought I had been wrong.
Chris gave a harsh laugh and licked his fangs.
I turned my red face away and sighed. After I killed his brother, Christopher better hope he never sees me again because it would be the last thing he sees.
"I'll be gone before he has the chance to kill you. You don't have to worry about that. Now if you don't mind, I'm starving. I'll be back sometime soon for your update. Most likely a week from now."
He climbed onto the window sill, in a crouch. He was ready to fling himself out into the night.
"Wait!" I called. "Here is your stupid blanket. You left it when you dropped me off."
I did not want it. I didn't want anything to tie me to Chris, to remind me of my stupidity. How could I ever have thought vampires anything other than heartless bloodsucking fiends? I'll never know.
Christopher shut his eyes and raised his head to the sky.
"Keep it," he said gently before rudely adding, "It smells of dog." Then he was gone.
I curst and flung the thing out the window after him. It did not smell like dog, it smelt like a stupid vampire.
"What the...?" I heard someone yell.
Good. Serves him right! I hope it landed on his head.
If I ever saw that vampire again it would be too soon. I hope he didn't stay too close to here, I thought, jumping back from the window.

I think your story is still good, and I love the way you make Chris act like he doesn't like her, it makes the story all the better... Pm me when you write more!!!!
