First Snowfall

I close my eyes and see us together in the first snowfall. Maybe it’s a night near Christmas time, and we’re walking down a quaint street lined with lamp posts that glow with a warm light. It has been snowing off and on all day, starting when I first looked out my window in the morning, and now the snow softly blankets everything around us, glistening and glittering everywhere. Downtown was a jolly, bustling atmosphere, with everyone inspired by the beauty and the festivity in the air, but we found ourselves strolling through a quiet park where everything was still peaceful and quiet.

I’m wearing the comfiest coat, and I’ve chosen my cutest, softest pair of gloves. We are holding hands, but at the moment simply walking in companionable silence. In the distance, the sounds of happy people and music can still be heard. Closer yet is the soft sound of snow beneath our shoes. Everything about the moment is breathtaking.

And then the snowflakes start to fall again. They’re big, soft, and fluffy, like sparkling crystalline kisses. They begin to descend and dance all around, illuminated by the light from the lamp posts. It’s so still and serene, you can almost hear the snowflakes hit the ground.

I stop and lift my face toward the vast sky, letting the soft flakes land like whispers on my skin and hair. A smile forms on my lips because it is so beautiful and I love it, and instinctively, my eyes turn to his face. He’s smiling down at me in all the splendor of his snow-flecked copper hair and sparkling blue eyes that radiate happiness and love and pride and warm affection. I could get lost in that look forever.

I find myself leaning against him and feel his arm around my waist. And then by some magic, our arms are wrapped around each other and we’re gazing into each other’s eyes. He leans down and kisses my forehead softly, once above each eyebrow. And I know that this moment of peacefulness, though the calm of it may be rare in our hectic world, is filled with so much meaning that words can’t express.

It's a brief and simple moment, but it’s everything.

We slip our hands into one another’s again and walk on, back toward the center of town and the bright, bustling festivity and the giant lighted Christmas tree. We’ll go back home and have some hot chocolate or something with the others, and we’ll all share joy and laughter together. But the peaceful moment of the first snowfall under the lamp post has lit a new corner of my heart that will glow throughout the whole holiday season.

This was an adorable story, I enjoyed reading it by far! A special Christmas night won my heart. You’re making me want to go into the Christmas mood.

Their intimate moment made me smile, I always enjoy reading romances even though I suck at writing romances…I always want to write cute soft romance stories but they either turn morbid, or they turn sad, or even creepy and spicy…I appreciate writers who can make a intimate romance into writing without making it dirty.

Keep writing I enjoyed it!

This sounds like the perfect hallmark winter romance. Like your descriptions are so vivid that I could almost imagine myself in this world. It reminds me of Stars Hollow around Christmas time when the mood is joyous. I can feel the warmth of the moment even through the icy cold setting. It's so cute. I wanted a little more description on the background people though. Like what do happy people sound like how do you know that they're joyful besides that I loved it.
"stop and lift my face toward the vast sky, letting the soft flakes land like whispers on my skin and hair. aw this is so cute. Christmas time really is so romantic and lovely, you captured that feeling.

Here's some things that could make this even better:
I wish there was more said on how they feel about his boy or maybe some background.
There was a part that could have more description, "In the distance, the sounds of happy people and music can still be heard. Closer yet is the soft sound of snow beneath our shoes. Everything about the moment is breathtaking." Instead of saying "happy people" you could say something like describing children's laughter in the distance. And instead of simply saying it is "breathtaking", go on to describe more of why it is breathtaking.

Here some things I liked:
"sparkling crystalline kisses. They begin to descend and dance all around, illuminated by the light from the lamp posts." I really liked this writing, you described how it was snowing and how it made you feel and how it looked, instead of just saying "it was snowing"
Overall I think you portrayed the exact feeling you wanted to show. Writing about hot chocolate and love, giving it the perfect Christmas feeling!

I really enjoyed this! I loved all of your descriptions, they made me be able to picture this story perfectly. I like how this short story gives off a feeling of peace and happiness. I love how you described that the small things in life can actually be so meaningful. Now I just wish that Christmas and winter could come sooner.
