With A Rebel Yell

PreviousNext

Ian had always been one that lived to shock. He's a scrawny boy, stylish black hair falling over his beautiful green eyes and a smug smirk designed to make anyone nervous. Ian was loud and boisterous, he didn't care what you think. He liked to pull pranks and bully those less fortunate than he was, but that was only to mask his fear. In truth, Ian hates himself. He hates how he's failing in school, he hates how the police want to interfere with his every move, how his parents kick him to the curb like an abandoned puppy. No one really cared for him, only those five friends who stuck with him through thick and thin.

His health wasn't great, either. Since he lost his mother, he's been underweight and in and out of hospital. Not like his father cared whether his only son lived or died. Since that tragic day where Ian's only friend died, his father had beat him to a pulp. Well why should he care? It's the little shits fault she's dead anyway! He deserves what she got!

He'd do anything to be free. He can't run away, in a big city like this he wouldn't even of left the walls before his father realises he's missing. He can't tell or the problem will get worse, and despite how much he wants it he can't kill himself because he promised his mother he'd stay alive. Ian wants to be free from this hell he's forced to trudge through day by day.

So he cuts. That scrawny, annoying little boy who makes everyone's life hell cuts. You heard it right. That kid who pushed you down the stairs and ran away laughing, screaming 'EMO!' at you feels your pain. Why he does it? It's the only pleasure he'll get. You won't understand his morals because you'll never be him.

Ian doesn't understand his life. Why can't he just be your average 15 year old, standing out against the crowd. No! He has to be a bully, abused by his own father and so underweight he could callapse at ant moment. It wasn't until a cold, December morning that Ian saw who he wanted to be.

He was leaving his flat for school, already late when he saw her. She was quite tall and slim, her fire red hair tied in a neat ponytail high on her head. She wore a perfectly pleated skirt and a tidy black coat over her school blazer. Her school bag sat high on her bag like a boffin. She was the kind of girl Ian would shove into a wall and laugh. Something about this girl stirred something inside him, something he wanted to be. Quickly, he darted his eyes from her and started to make his way down the stairs, following her.

"I know you're there, Watkins. Don't even think about pushing me down the stairs"

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm Knight Hardy here on a mission to ensure that all works on YWS has at least two reviews. You will probably never see this but....Imma do this anyway.

First Impression: Well, this is an intriguing start to a story here. The main character certainly appears to be a very complex and very intriguing character here with what this appears to be trying to convey right here.

Anyway let's get right to it,

Okay...very interesting character description there to get started with. Usually its not a great idea to start by basically stating the personality of the main character in the first paragraph right away but for some reason it kind of works here, because this is a really interesting character that certainly gets your attention right away here. So...this is kind of in the middle. I'd still recommend some of the more complex parts of his personality like the fact that he hides his true qualities underneath the personality he shows others should be shown to us in the story rather than just kind of spelt out here.

Uhh...that one's a little bit of a confusing passage there, I get the feeling this has something to do with a couple of sentences with a bit of a wony syntax, you might want to take a second look at at least a couple of those sentences just to make sure here. Otherwise...well, this looks like a pretty tough situation that Ian is living in here.

Okay...wow, well you can certainly see this person despite whatever it is that he projects to everyone else, is haunted by quite a few problems that cause him to get pretty much to the brink there judging by that paragraph. You can certainly see how much he cared about his mother judging by how he only lives on because of a promise he made to her.

Well...that's not a very healthy coping mechanism, and well, this seems like a really interesting thing to be tackling right here. Its sort of showing just how much pain this bully is going through as he does what he does...although well you do have to say, that still doesn't justify what he does, its a bit more understandable. it certainly seems like it'll make for a pretty intriguing story at any rate.

Ian doesn't understand his life. Why can't he just be your average 15 year old, standing out against the crowd. No! He has to be a bully, abused by his own father and so underweight he could callapse at ant moment. It wasn't until a cold, December morning that Ian saw who he wanted to be.

Well it certainly seems like he's having to go through a really hard life here, and its no wonder that he appears to be wishing to somehow be allowed to live a normal life rather than this current hand which he has been dealt right here.

Oooh...well this girl certainly doesn't appear to hold back and take whatever the bullies usually do...aand, also well Ian reacting this way to someone that he'd normally not care about at all certainly raises some questions there. A neat little cliffhanger her to close off this first bit here.

Aaaaand that's it for this one.

Overall: Overall, this is a really solid looking start to this here story...it certainly seems like something that I'd probably read more of here. And this first chapter really seems to do its job barring a couple of things I pointed out above. :D

As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.
