Ice of silk:

Chapter 1: Silence is much more than not talking.

When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close
It's dark inside ~

Silence.

A noun:

A situation or state in which someone does not talk about or answer questions about something.

A transitive verb:

To stop (someone) from expressing opinions that are opposed to your own or from telling people about bad things that you have done.

To stop (something) from being expressed or revealed.

But silence is so much more than not talking. It's more than not revealing. Have you wondered what silence is? Have you ever wondered what the silence holds? Silence is what you're afraid to say but also what you want to hear. Silence cloaks a thousand unspoken words and untold secrets.

People can either say what's on their mind, or they can say what you want to hear, or they can choose to remain silent. Silence has the potential to either break or mend your heart.

When you don't hear what you were afraid of, it mends your heart and your fears vanish. But, when you don't hear what you desperately needed to, it breaks your heart. This silence has been the cause of my heartbreak for long. It was the raging storm that penetrated my world and caused chaos. But little did I know it was for the better.

A voice in my head repeated itself. Why? Is that the truth? The rational part of me, the logical one sneered at the voice and pushed it away. The internal battle is hard to escape. It's funny, we search for reasons and excuses when a part of us refuses to accept truth. Why do we always run from truth? Is it because the truth isn't always what we want to hear? Countless times I retraced my steps, trying to find where I went wrong. How did one choice alter the future? Would it have been different if I had stayed and fought? Would making a different choice matter? Would it change my present, my past? I heaved a sigh and rubbed my temples. Another sleepless night. My body yearns for sleep. But it won't come, of that I'm sure. It is hard to fall asleep every night and, on some nights, I don't get any. I can't remember the last time I had slept peacefully or didn't wake up screaming or crying.

I looked out at the forest through the window pane. An eerie silence has settled upon it. In some twisted way, I can relate to the trees. They stand tall against the sky, proud of their strength. Though the night sky mocks them. No matter how tall they stand, they'll never reach its limit. Forever bound they are to the ground that holds them captive. Sooner rather than later, their souls are ripped apart and they're broken. It's close to what I felt, close to how I feel now and then. I am imprisoned by my past. It mocks me in every way it can. But, I won't give up. I'll keep trying to escape it as long as I can. I'm not the one to give up easily, I'd rather fight than be vulnerable to others. It wasn't easy to piece myself back and stand up, but somehow I managed to do so.

I remember how I'd lie awake in my bed and listen to angry rain fall on the roof. I held on to heartache, because I was too afraid to let go and, fall spiraling down, hard and fast. My heart was in fragments. I had felt it sink and, leave me lifeless and broken. I needed a heart to live, but mine was in shambles.

Time had taken its sweet time to erase the memories that left a bitter taste in my mouth. For a long time, I stood by the sidelines waiting, waiting for it to change, for him to unbreak my heart. But it never happened. The reality sunk in and snapped me out of the trance. I thank whatever it was, for pulling me out of the black hole. I'd rather spend my life happy. But are you truly happy? The voice whispered. Yes, I am. I answered with as much confidence as I could muster. You sound like you are trying to convince yourself. She's the naive part of me, refusing to believe the truth. Not everything that meets the eye is truth. Sometimes all it is, is a web of lies. She whispered and shrunk back to the furthest corner in my mind. I despise that part of me for being the stupid naive girl she is.

The windows rattled, effectively breaking me out of my thoughts. I jumped back in surprise when they rattled harder and flung open. My eyebrows shot up in confusion. How did they open? I'm sure I locked them before going to bed. I hugged myself tighter as violent gusts of wind blew. The wind whipped my hair in different directions.

I noticed the goosebumps along my

arms and legs. A knot formed in the pit of my stomach and my insides twisted. Grey ominous clouds curtained the moon and, the leaves bristled. The swaying branches were casting shadows on ceiling. The bone chilling air carried the feeling of dread with it. My wolf stirred awake.

Then I heard it...

It was a high pitched howl of terror. My wolf went wild. She could feel power rolling off in waves, somewhere far off in the woods. It wasn't any ordinary Alpha's power. It's much stronger, more evil. Whoever is out there isn't any ordinary werewolf. My senses heightened as eyes searched the surroundings for a sign of danger. My cell phone blared and I spun around so quick, it made me dizzy. The screen flashed Unknown. With a trembling hand, I answered.

"Hello?" I asked in a timid voice. Silence and someone's laboured breathing was the only answer I got.

"Who is this?" This time my voice was more firm, but no one answered. My heart thumped against my rib cage. The line went dead and, I stared at my phone trying to comprehend what happened. Who could it be? Alpha Blake's text caught my eye and, I tapped on the open.

Blake: I need you to meet me at the headquarters in 15 minutes.

-B

I pushed the door open and stepped inside. The room was decorated with walnut furniture that contrasted well with the cream walls. I found Blake pacing back and forth behind his large mahogany desk.

"What's wrong?" The words tumbled out of my mouth on their own. He ran a hand through his blond hair. His crystal blue eyes were clouded with worry and agitation.

"Alpha Thanatos is on his way to our quarters. In fact he is in our territory at the moment." He growled. He was fighting his wolf from taking over. The battle was reflected in his eyes. Blake is always calm and collected. I've never seen him so worried, or angry. I took a deep breath and walked up to him.

"Calm down Blake. We'll figure it out." I squeezed his hand, wanting to comfort my best friend. I've known Blake for as long I can remember. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be here.

"Dammit! This is more complicated than it seems, Ella." I don't get it. It's just another alpha visiting. Why is he so worried? I decided to voice my thoughts.

"He's just visiting Blake. I'm sure, he wants to discuss alliance or some pack stuff." He shook his head and gestured for me to sit down. I sat down on the chair opposite to his.

"Ella, Alpha Thanatos doesn't just visit." My eyebrows pulled together in confusion.

"What do you mean? Who is he?" He gaped at me. Something deep down stirred. Curiosity spiked inside me. I have never heard of him. Something strange tugged on my heartstrings. I can't place a finger on what is, but I know it's there.

"Ells, he's the alpha of Ravenclaw pack." Ravenclaw. That sounded familiar. Blake looked at me expectantly. A light flicked on inside my mind and a file with the label 'Danger' opened.

"The pack that's been all over the werewolf committee news paper. The killing machines." The werewolf committee newspaper provides information about recents events occurring in our world. Their newspaper and websites are only accessible by werewolves. WAB keeps a record of every birth, death and werewolf alive. These records are passed down to werewolf committee, who add the users of 16+ years old werewolves so they can access the sites and papers.

Ravenclaw pack is called the killing machine because they kill on first sight. No questions asked, no explanations. No wolf or rogue in their right mind, dares to step a foot on their territory. They're the strongest pack ever. Their pack has taken over many territories and killed innocent wolves. There's no information found on alpha Thanatos or his pack. Finding a way into their territory is hard. They've everything covered and everything related to him and his pack remains a mystery.

"Yes, that's the Ravenclaw. Alpha Thanatos wants a treaty."

"Isn't that a good thing? The pack will be safer with him on our side." He shook his head and stood up. My eyes followed his every move, his posture was tensed.

"No, it isn't. It makes things worse. He has a condition. He is looking for something, for someone and he wants my dad to convince the council to help him. And if we help him, he'll swear alliance." He explained as he paced around the room again. I inhaled sharply. The knot in my stomach tightened further. My wolf has been restless and circling around.

"What are we going to do?" I pulled at the ends of my hair. This can't be good. Convincing the council or hiding this agenda from them is going to be tricky. Even though Blake's dad, Alpha Jackson, is the head of the council. The council makes sure the packs follow the rules and the balance between good and evil isn't tipped.

"We don't have a choice. We've to help him. His pack outnumbers us, we don't stand a chance against him. Moreover he has more allies than us, so that's another option ruled out. There's no way we can beat him. He has never gone back on his word but I don't think we can trust him."

"If he hasn't, then you know the pack is safe. If he signs an agreement then he can't attack our pack.Though we'll have to be alert at all times till he's here."

"I thought of that, but I don't know what my dad would say. I need to discuss it with him. This is the first time I am clueless." He murmured.

"You know he'll help you, if you ask for it. He's your dad and much more experienced. There's nothing wrong with considering his opinion" I gave him a reassuring smile which he returned.

His face darkened. "He'll be at the clearing in a few minutes. We need to leave." We started towards the clearing. There was no pack member lurking around.

He suddenly stopped and faced me.

"What?" I shifted my weight on the other foot.

"Don't follow me inside the clearing. Wait outside with other members until I have this sorted out." I sighed inwardly. He is making me more nervous than I already am. I nodded and we continued walking. Running there wouldn't make sense as it is five minutes away. The closer the clearing grew, the more nervous it made me. I wonder what Alpha Thanatos is looking for?

There was a crowd gathered around the clearing. The power I had felt a few minutes ago in the bedroom, returned. It was coming from the centre of the clearing. The sheer strength of the power was mind boggling. I have never seen someone with so much power. It was forcing my wolf to bow down. I doubt I'm not the only one feeling this way.

My stomach clenched in an almost painful way. Blake ran to the centre of the clearing while I waited at the back with others. Everyone fidgeted and, watched the scene with interest, but at the same time they were alert. As if waiting for things to take a turn for the worse.

"He is so vicious."

"Why is he here?"

"There's a rumour that he killed his own mate." All sorts of things were being whispered. The last one got me. Can someone kill their own mate? The thought made me sick. If he has, then he is indeed the most vicious and cruel wolf ever.

I jumped out of my skin when a howl resonated from the centre. What's happened? Before I knew it, I was pushing my way through the crowd. When I almost reached to the edge of clearing my wolf instructed me to watch the scene from the shadows. It isn't the best idea to out myself to whoever or whatever danger is out there. Besides if I go to the clearing, Blake will be pissed off and I'm not a high ranked wolf. Only a beta can accompany the alpha. However I'm Blake's PA so that counts as something right? I hid behind the bushes far off in the corner, making sure no one can see me.

"You had no right to kill him!" Blake sneered. I stifled a gasp that wanted to escape. Why would he kill someone? Who has he killed? My forehead creased in worry. Sympathy bubbled up inside me as I thought of the victim's family and mate. Losing your mate is the most insufferable experience. Especially if your mate is somewhere out there pretending you don't exist. Anger simmered underneath my skin at the last thought. The bitter taste of memories returned, but I ignored it.

I need to focus on what's going on in the clearing. I don't like him. Alpha or not, nothing gives him the right to take an innocent's life. A few Hulk-sized men blocked my view. I stood on my toes to get a better look, I caught a glimpse of Blake, he was fuming. He was about to shift and, he has every right to pick a fight, but it isn't the best idea. Blake is strong enough, but I don't think he stands a chance against Alpha Thanatos. I can sense his power, he is stronger. Beta Jace tried to calm Blake down. I couldn't shake off the strange feeling that made me tingle all over.

"I did you a favor!" Another, much powerful voice boomed, making me shiver. That voice....

It sounds...familiar? I am not sure.

"A favor? How is that a favor?" The air crackled with tension. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead and my heart thumped against my chest. Hushed words were carried away with the wind. Whatever Blake and Alpha Thanatos were discussing wasn't meant for us to hear. Even with our heightened senses, it was hard to make out what was being said.

"That settles everything Alpha Blake." I shivered from the coldness in his voice. I have this strange urge to see him. My curiosity is scaring me, after all curiosity did kill the cat. But I'm no cat.

"Sometimes, It is good to be curious." My wolf murmured. She's never been the curious one. Why is she so interested?

"You're acting weird." I pointed out. She doesn't talk much anymore, but she is always there when I need her.

"You're the weird one." I rolled my eyes and shut her out.

The clearing is surrounded by tall trees and the only light coming is from the moon. Everything is quiet. Too quiet. I glanced around, feeling creeped out. How can it be so quiet? Where are the animals and insects? Not a single tree swayed or bristled. I shuddered and the hair on the back of my neck stood up.

Through the tiny gap between the two men, I saw a figure crouch. He placed his hand on something. I swallowed and watched what he was doing. A sick, tearing sound filled my ears and my eyes widened as I realised it the sound of flesh tearing. The crouched man inserted his hand inside the lifeless body. He ripped out a heart and tossed it away, as though it was a mere object. My eyes welled up and fear gripped my heart at the sight of it. I averted my gaze and turned my attention to Blake, but he had left the clearing. I resisted the urge to find him and stayed rooted to my spot.

My attention was drawn to the figure standing near the two men. His back was turned to me. I tilted my head to the side and assessed every inch of him. His back was on display and, his skin was unusually pale. Long scars decorated his entire back. Who did that to him? One of his pack members handed him a shirt and, they started towards the edge of the clearing. There is something different about him. He isn't built like other alphas. He is much skinner for an alpha wolf. What's behind that mask of authority? My question made me frown.

My wolf whined and my stomach churned. The scene of him killing so mercilessly replayed in my head. I felt the bile rise up my throat and the foul taste invaded my mouth. I took a deep breath and sprinted in the opposite direction.. Important! Read the A/N.

A/N: okay so here's the first chapter. Warning: its not edited. I'm writing from my phone and I can not edit the chapter right now. However I did rewrite it at least four times. I'm pretty satisfied with the chapter. Let's move on to the important matter.

IMPORTANT: This will be a dark story. Darker than usual. Ella is NOT going to be like the female characters we come across. She has a very, very different mindset. If you can't handle it, then do not read. This is just the beginning but as the story proceeds you'll get what I mean.

Critiques are always welcomed. I have been working on this story for a long time and I have most of it planned out. Don't forget critiques are always welcomed.

I am really quite enjoying the story so far, but I think that if a darker air is desired then it would be best to get straight to it. What kind of dark are you going for? I think it would be beneficial to make this distinction a little more visible

You say that Ella has a different mindset from other girls..... how so?

Oh god this is surprising. I didnt really expect anyine to read this. Well... I can't really explain but this story will be rather realistic and not the whole happy bubbly sort of thing. About Ella's mindset... well first I am originally writing this book on wattpad and there most female characters are weak and submissive so the note was mainly for that site. But she does have different mindset. How so? Hm as you read on you will realise. I can't explain in words because in my mind... Ella is more developed character and I can't explain how her mind works but as you will read on you will realise she is different. She won't be submissive or weak emotional girl. On wattpad most female characters are weak pathetic... emotional and put up with all sort of BS and this won't be the case in my story. You can say I want it to.be anti cliche.

I look forward to some character development then :) Carry on with the good work!

P.S. Even if you were a terrible writer (which you aren't!) I would absolutely give kudos for the cliche-fighting. Too much of a good thing is bad enough.... too much of a bad thing though...... oof. Anyway, Please continue! I look forwards to the continuation of the story!

Hello, I'm here to review your chapter~
This will be a quickie so yeah.
Okay. I'll do it chronologically.

The first part was okay. The definition of silence in dictionary form, the song playing, the pondering of the main character, I imagine her lying in her bed like the average depressed main character, and that's okay. But before reading it, I was expecting it to be this unique plot. That beginning, I don't know, just didn't catch me. I guess I just prefer a different style. It seemed too cliche on the getgo.

Plus, there's this part.

Would it change my present, my past? I heaved a sigh and rubbed my temples.
It would be better if the I heaved a sigh was another paragraph. Cut your long paragraphs because people might not read your work if it seems too long. And sometimes it disrupts the flow of things.

Also, the music. The song in the first part. Did you just put it there for more drama and depression feels and whatever? Or is it playing in the Main Character's head? Or is it being played through the radio? I'm kind of interested in whether the MC turned on the radio and that song just happened to play.

Okay, next!
The middle kind of got me. The feeling of lack of depth and cliche scenes in the beginning was filled up in the middle. I kind of got a sense of this story and how it's not actually the typical thing.

I personally don't read werewolf stories because they seem too typical, but this one has slightly changed my perspective of the whole werewolf genre.

I have this major problem though: info dump. I think info dumping is a big no no, but there are some cases where it's needed, when you really need to tell the readers something to make them understand the plot. Info dumping here occurred in the part where the MC explained WAB and ravenclaw. In my opinion, you could do a lot better than info dumping here. You could include the information through dialogue, or use your creative tingling sense to place it somewhere in the story where it's not delivered straightforwardly.

Info dumping can mean that you're underestimating the readers. Of course, I think you don't, maybe you did it unconsciously/unintentionally. And, all through that info dumping part, I didn't find out what WAB stood for. You don't have to include it in the story, but I'm just interested in what WAB stands for. Werewolf Association Boogie? I don't know.

"He is so vicious."
This part was slightly weird. I won't push it further but I think you should work on this. Do people really say this? Of course they are werewolves so that must be the case, but it's just weird to me because the rest of the characters talk in a normal way.

The end... I think it's nice. Sprinting as the ending is nice.

So what do I say? Your writing style is good, especially in parts where it's all intense and whatnot, but I have a feeling that it's a little bit raw. You should enhance it further. One word. Books.

I like the plot, I like your writing, and I don't mind reading more. :D

Happy Writing~

holy hell hole this was long. I'm sorry >.<

Haha I don't mind it. And I am literally so happy you pointed those mistakes out. On wattpad everyone gave me a positive review. This is the first review in which someone pointed out my mistakes and I can't be happier. I believe there's always room for improvement. I am going to keep everything you said in mind and work on it. Till I know I did mention full form of WAB. I will read through and cross check. I am sorry if I missed mentioning that. I have been mentioning it's full form in the first 2 chapter. Info dump? I thought avoided that. I do get what you mean. Info dump is annoying. I was trying not to.do that but obviously I failed. I was trying not to do that. I will edit my chapters soon. These are drafts. If I manage to change your perspective on werewolf genre I will literally be the happiest person xD yes the beginning seems a little cliche but I assure you that I am doing everything I can to make it anti cliche. If you are worried that Ella will be like one of those werewolf story's weak little mate then it wont happen.
*Groans* sorry again.. I dont know what music you are talking about... I joined this site last night to improve my skills. I am still trying to figure out things here. But the music... the link at the beginning of the chapter is the book's trailer. Like a movie trailer. You can paste that link and watch on youtube c: Thank you so much for the honest review... I appreciate it. :)

I'm so sorry if I got you confused, but I'm REALLY hyped for your next chapter! You did change my perspective on the werewolf genre so kudos for that. I know, the beginning is cliche, but I did state that after that I found it it wasn't as stereotypical as it sounded.

Great chapter! I really loved the style you wrote this in and how you had the word silence defined in the beginning. Hope to see the 2nd chapter! Interesting characters and plot. Not to mention the characters have nice names. Anyways, great chapter. Nice title and can't wait to read more.

I am glad you liked it. Thank you c: I was posting till chapter four last night but it wouldn't allow me to. I don't know why. There was no publish option. O.O sorry I am new here. I have written till chapter 4 and I am writing chapter 5 right now. c:
