In Songwriting

You don't always have to be the strong one.
You don't always have to be the shoulder to cry on.
In the still of the night when the world slips away,
Know that if you have to cry, it's okay.
It's okay.

I will catch you with a word.
I will hold you in a song.
As days fade to nights that feel so frozen,
Here with me you’re welcome to stay.

All is well in life and love you tell me.
But I know all that you want is to be free.
You cannot mask the pain in your eyes.
The smile that you wear is a futile disguise.

But I will catch you with a word.
I will hold you in a song.
As days fade to nights that feel so frozen,
Here with me you’re welcome to stay.

Hi there :) I am 567ajt, and I have come to review this piece of work.

Two things:

1) Yay! Another lyricist! I specialize in song lyrics, so it's nice to see someone who does the same thing.
2) Why hasn't this got any reviews/comments? I really like this!

"You don't always have to be the strong one.
You don't always have to be the shoulder to cry on.
In the still of the night when the world slips away,
Know that if you have to cry, it's okay.
It's okay."

I like the repetition of "okay", to reassure the subject of the song ("you") is fine and has nothing to worry about. This makes me feel that right away this song is about inspiration, and never giving up.

"I will catch you with a word.
I will hold you in a song.
As days fade to nights that feel so frozen,
Here with me you’re welcome to stay."

This feels very much like the chorus. It just feels so natural for it to be so. This shows you are a natural in this field. Which is nice to see! It's awesome to see a writer that knows what he/she is doing.

"All is well in life and love you tell me.
But I know all that you want is to be free.
You cannot mask the pain in your eyes.
The smile that you wear is a futile disguise."

The narrator knows that "you" are upset, and not happy and is "well in life". The narrator is concerned about "you". The disguise is futile. Stop pretending.

"But I will catch you with a word.
I will hold you in a song.
As days fade to nights that feel so frozen,
Here with me you’re welcome to stay."

The chorus repeats, empathizing the importance of this section to the song.

Great job- I loved it!

Thank you! Your review made my day :)
