The Eccentric Eight

E - Everyone

In My School is Crazy

PreviousNext

There're two teachers at our school who're eccentric and nice

Who will always give lessons with some sugar and spice

But beware of their sound,

When your music is found,

To be wanting of style, 'cause they'll turn you to ice

******

"To be or not to be," you always must ask

When the following teachers give you a school task

Cause on Drama they build,

Their most prosperous guild,

And their students are hidden in both mantle and mask

******

Two other wise teachers will send you away

If you come to their class with no easel or clay

They're the masters of Art,

And they are kind in the heart,

Cause they always have something uplifting to say

******

Two teachers practice the great dances of old

The one has hair of black onyx and the other of gold

If you just try your best,

You may pass their dance test,

And learn to be gracious and courageous and bold

Heya, victorianbeauty here to give you a review! :) I really like this piece because of the story it tells. Not many poems manage to pull that off very well. Okay, down to business :)

But beware of their sound,

When your music is found,

I didn't really understand these lines, especially the first one. What sound are you talking about? Are you talking about their voice or a musical instrument? I think that you need to be a little more specific here.

To be wanting of style, 'cause they'll turn you to ice

They'll turn you to ice? What's this mean? Will they literally turn you to ice or make you feel like ice with their icy glare or what? Again, I feel that you need to be a bit more clear here.

Their most prosperous guild

This is the fourth line of stanza two but you probably already now that, as this is your poem. :D lol Anyways, a guild usually refers to a group of workman in the same profession. I don't think that they would have these in a school.

I don't any more nitpicks for today. I hope this helps with any problems you may have had. Hope to see more from you! :)

hello, rhia here to review!

There's two teachers at our school who're eccentric and nice

There's should be there are for verb agreement

Their the masters of Art,

Their should be they're

And there kind in the heart,

Otherwise, these are pretty fun to readand really cute.

Thank you very much for this excellent review! I must admit that I made some stupid grammatical errors, but that happens when you get inspired at 11pm South African time.

Haha, no problem! It happens to the best of us ;)

Hey, there! Sounds here to give you a quick review.

Right off the bat, I spot a grammatical error: 'there's' should be 'there are', because you are speaking about teachers (more than one) and not just narrowing it down to one teacher who might be nice.

Unless that's your style? I don't know much about poetry! \o/ I just like reading it, but still. Just trying to help.

That aside, I really like this. It reflects how specific teachers can be especially when grading or critiquing. I'll let you in on a secret: I never took a writing class. In fact, I was turned down for that class. Not that I am complaining, of course, the teacher was a straight biotch, possibly the most persnickety person I've ever met. Same with some of the art teachers there.

I like that I can make a personal connection, needless to say.

Good job! :)

Thank you for this review! The grammatical errors were because of sleep deprivation. I'll be sure to edit them out.
P.S. - I'm so glad you could connect with this piece. I believe that;swhat every writer wants when they write something :-)
