I am Despair;
I feed on broken dreams
And fading courage
And shattered hope.
I numb the brain,
Poison the heart,
Wither the body,
Drain the soul.
I thrive on worry
For loved ones;
I relish tyranny,
My unforgiving source;
I crave weakness;
It is my strength.
I lurk in dark corners;
Plotting, conspiring,
Seeking a host.
I wait for Doubt;
It clears the way,
Creates suspicion,
Draws out agony.
Then comes Fear;
It gnaws on
The frayed strands
Of sanity,
And distorts
The window
Of the mind.
Then I go in
For the kill;
I corrupt sanity
Till it is
Just a word.
I destroy all
The good
That survives.
I break the Will
To Fight Back.
I crush the Hope
For a Better Day.
I consume the Courage
The Face The Monsters.
I am everyone's
Worst nightmare;
Their last inner demon,
The deadly one
With no remorse.
I am the downfall
Of nations,
Because I am all
That is left
When everything
Has been snatched away
And destroyed
Before bleak eyes.
Death comes soon;
It is not a danger,
Not anymore;
It is the only relief
For tormented souls.
And I?
I move on,
To the next person,
Next nation;
Until there is
Nothing left
Except Despair.
I know it's not very poetic and is extremely depressing and has a lot of potholes, but please leave a comment. I really need to work on my writing, to 'get back in the game'.
And my best friend Luna Lovegood here says that I really should stop staying up late and spouting random poetry, the Crumple-Horned Snorkacks are scared of it. Of course, I don't agree one bit.

Wow, this is very well-written poem! I'm impressed! great job =)
I like how this isn't what most poems called "Despair" would be about. Honestly I was a little hesitant clicking on this, but I am thoroughly impressed. Instead of it being self-pitying and a "no one understands me" poem, it was something genuine and realistic. THAT'S depressing. This is creative. It's real. I love it!

Thank you so much! I honestly thought this was crappy.
My Roman
That was insanely poetic. Rock on.
Forget the sad sods who call this depressing - it's not. It's realistic as hell and I salute you for that. Keep writing, kid. You're a year younger than me and I'm jealous about the way your mind interlaces words and plays on adjectives.
Well done man. You've got amazing potential.
Your Roman,
Gingerhead
Thanks for your review, it really made my day! I just kind of resent being called a kid. This was written in one of my darker moods, and I hope to have something else on the site soon.
