I Strongly Dislike Poetry

I really hate this poem, I hope I’ve made this clear,

I will never be like Dr. Seuss, nor like Shakespeare.

You cannot say I didn’t try to write an average verse,

Though all the words that I compose just go from bad to worse.

With fingers crossed I continue, denying myself a sneer.

I wish my words could shine so bright, just like a chandelier,

But what comes out is dull and gray, it fails to disappear.

I want nothing more than to be done with this bloody curse.

I really hate this poem.

On I go with lousy words, my frustration sheds a tear,

I try my hardest to succeed, but my lines just aren’t sincere.

My words are all empty, no lines to rehearse,

My sestet is dead, no joy to disperse.

At this point in time I could sure use a beer,

I really (really) hate this poem!

Hey @Kayley01 here for review.
Yes, you have made it very clear that you hate the poem @TheCreatorOfWorlds but I for one actually really like it. It's not actually that long but the way you said about Dr. Seuss and Shakespeare really dragged me in. I thought that was a very humorous line and I actually laughed a little bit.

One Criticism - The one criticism I have is that I didn't really understand where you "It fails to disappear." What did you mean by that? Did you mean your words fail to disappear? Or was it that your wish fails to disappear? I just didn't think it made much sense.

Other than that - I did find this to be a funny poem, it definitely belongs under the humour section.

Well done on writing this poem, keep up the good work!

Remington38 here! I found this satirical poem very entertaining. The description and imagery in the poem is written very well which is good because I feel those are very important in for any written works. Overall it was really funny and written very well. I would love to see more of where this came from and to see more.

This was hilarious, and was very elegant with its use of meter rather than just rhyme. However, I do not get why it is called "I strongly dislike poetry" when you only say "I really hate this poem" in the whole poem. Besides that, everything is pretty amazing. The unrhymed last line I found does a pretty good job at emphasizing "I'm done with this and not even trying". The stanzas are nice, and you use a lot of the same rhymes in the poem, which I find ties it together. Please write more poems.

Hey! Sorry if this review ends up being short. I agreed a lot with what @Leekeer wrote and I don't want to repeat everything they said.

I enjoyed this poem. I didn't think it was funny, it didn't make me laugh but I can see how it would make other people laugh (just not my type of humor, I suppose). It had good flow and rolled off the tongue, which is my favorite thing about poetry. I love the word 'nor' and that's why I really liked the second line of the poem. I felt the repetition of the line 'really hate this' became boring and sort of blah. I would love to have more imagery in this poem, you have the vocabulary but not quite the descriptive imagery. I liked the rhyme scheme, it was not hard to find but not too simple. I applaud you for the rhyme because I am absolutely horrible at creating a natural sounding rhyme! I didn't like how the ninth line was short and a repetition of a previous line. I felt like it ruined the flow and just overall annoyed me. I'm okay with the lines being other lengths but not if the line that is drastically shorter is not very, I don't know, stunning? deep? meaningful? I felt like the line just was unnecessary and didn't give the reader anything or make the poem any better. I feel like the ninth line actually made the poem worse.

Anyway, you said in this poem that you are bad at poetry and that you hate it, but I can see your natural talent for the art. I would love to see more poetry from you,
Alice

This poem was pretty good. (Just to be clear, I know nothing about poetry). Now, I liked how you really expressed how you really are NOT a fan of poetry, but I thought that the poem was good. It was pretty funny, these are the types of poems that I usually read, sadly. Good work.

Ello!, Leek here to review!!. feel free to tell me if you disagreed with my points.
Ok lets go right into this.

The sentences should be more spaced out for an example

I really hate this poem, I hope I’ve made this clear,

I will never be like Dr. Seuss, nor like Shakespeare.

You cannot say I didn’t try to write an average verse,

Though all the words that I compose just go from bad to worse.
This should be more spaced out and fleshed its too cramped i say you should just make it one line after another and im sure it would not have the cramped feeling to it but story wise these lines have a good strong idea to it like you really hate poems :). i don't know why but i will find out.

"Though all the words that I compose just go from bad to worse."
There should have been a comma at compose because you are trying to make it rhyme but all in one sentence that just doesn't work.

"I wish my words could shine so bright, just like a chandelier,"
I don't think chandeliers shine bright on their own but with the lights on

"But what comes out is dull and gray, it fails to disappear.

I want nothing more than to be done with this bloody curse.

I really hate this poem."

I really like this section because you telling me that you are sad about this poem and you hate it. But i think there should have been another line after bloody curse to tell me that you think this is rubbish and a pile of HS.

"At this point in time I could sure use a beer,

I really (really) hate this poem!"

You really didn't need the brackets as we already knew that you hated this and wanted to be finished. So my final thoughts are keep doing what you are doing and continue making work as this is your first time here so its gonna take you a little time to get into a groove but overall you have an amazing idea and you wrote your feelings down!.

Tell me when you have another project that need looking at. :) :D
