(I JUST WANTED TO SAY I'M NOT PREGNANT OKAY I'M 14 I JUST WANTED TO WRITE IT)
Dear Future Kid,
I was watching a video on Buzzfeed a few minutes ago where expectant mothers told their kids what they wanted them to know. And it was terrible. Complete shit. I thought I could write something much better for you. Now it’s 11:01 PM on a Thursday and I’m 14 and very tired but I’m trying my best so stick with me.
First of all, I want you to know that you’re my kid, so you’re probably gonna be fucked up, and I’m sorry. I’m getting therapy and I have great friends who help a lot, and if you need those things when you’re my age, I’ll make sure you get them.
I promised myself I wouldn’t cry but I’m crying right now. Maybe it’s because I’m stressed and tired, or scared that I’ll never grow old enough to be a mother, or I’m just getting emotional because I’m annoying. This is hard. I don’t even know why.
Second of all, I want you to know that everyone’s going to say, “just be yourself,” and “you’re perfect the way you are,” and people are also going to say, “society makes you feel like you’re not beautiful enough or pretty enough and everyone will judge you but it’s okay because you’re you and you’re great.” Don’t listen to shit heads like that. They’re lying. Society tells you to just be yourself but, right now at least, society isn’t okay with who I am because I like boys and girls. I hope that when you’re as old as I am now, society won’t be like that. Society also tells you, “you’re perfect the way you are.” That’s a lie too. I’m not perfect the way I am now. I’m so scared to talk to people I can barely breathe and I hate myself so much I cry about it all the time. That’s not okay. If you ever feel like this, you have to tell me. People say society judges you, which is true, but society barely influences me. And if you’re my kid, society probably won’t influence you either. The only reason I think I’m fat is because I don’t have a flat stomach. Not because some celebrity does. The only real judge in your life is you. Also me. I’m your mom, godammnit!
Lastly, I want you to know that I’m gonna be there for you and I’m going to love you and accept you for who you are. I hope you’re gonna play drums with me and watch Wes Anderson movies with me and eat sushi with me and travel the world with me, but if you don’t want to do that, we don’t have to! If you want to be an athlete or become a devout Christian or become a doctor, I’m glad and I’m proud! Oh god I’m sobbing now. You don’t even exist yet and I love you, I love you so much and I just want to make you happy. On nights when you’re sad, we’re gonna sit on your bed and cry, or tell funny stories, or go outside and look at the stars until we fall asleep. And it’ll be wonderful, for you’re mine and I’m yours and I’m always gonna be there for you.
I love you. I’ll see you soon.
Love,
Your mother.

This is pure genius. Great job!
Thank you!
I'm not crying, you're crying.
Also, LITERARY SPOTLIGHT
Just realized that you actually were crying. And I'm actually not crying, because I have no soul. But whatever.
Also love how you responded to almost every comment with "I'm not pregnant!"
Okay, I'm not going to lie, this whole letter made me tear up a little. I have absolutely nothing to critique about because I honestly believe it is a great letter to a future child and that you will be a good mom if you keeps all these promises and then some. (Quick question, are expecting a boy or a girl?) This letter is awesome, I love it and it is so full of truth. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I'm not pregnant! But thank you! I just wanted to write this for when I do have kids.
I love this so much! You are going to be an excellent mother!

Ah, that does make sense. You will make a great mother in the future. Great work!
Oh my god. I loved and enjoyed the words. You are the best supportive mother. I loved the way and respect your writing. You made me cry and realize the importance of a child in a mother's life. I sometimes yell at my mother but i cry and love her at the same time. I am always and will be her first priority. She is stubborn, fat and not a celebrity but she is my best and favourite one. I love you mom. She cares for me. She plays with me and understand my emotions. Who can replace her not even god.
I really loved everything. It's the best writing ever. It makes me remember my dark days when my mom stood by my side and said it's okay it happens,no worries. I miss you mom and will miss you forever. I know you won't be there with me forever but your memories and words will make me go a long way.
Moms make the earth. Great piece of writing and i loved it a lot.
Thank you! And that story about your mom is quite touching. I bet she was amazing.
This gave me goosebumps! You will be a great mom, trust me.

This letter is honest. Brutal, and real refreshing.
I don't appreciate those who think problems are something to hide, or even just dramatize them (they somehow make them so dramatized, they're hidden as well). But this is real, and tangible. There are no spelling errors or punctuation, but that is beside the point, Your work is so good, I don't even think those 'normal editing' techniques are relevant. Thank you so much for this breath of fresh air. (you should be a blogger. You seem to be very confident in your opinions, and it's great)
Thanks!
